Mason’s Steak House & Lounge

Only lived in the area a couple years so we are still exploring. So we stopped on a Friday night, no wait, but not greeted either. Upon asking the young lady sitting at one of the tables rolling silverware if we seat ourselves she proceeded to get some menus and seat us.
I ordered the ribeye which was on the specials board but not the menu with baked potato and cottage cheese. My ribeye was good but not cooked med/​well as ordered more med/​rare. Only given 2 tiny butters for the potato but a big cup of sour cream.
My dear husband ordered the half rack of ribs, which were overly charred. I could not have eaten them with some very instant potatoes and bland canned green beans.
Reasonably priced at just under 60.00 with tip. The warm bread was very good. But with the many other choices of places to eat we probably won’t be back.
Was surprised when we got out of the car and the apartment above the restaurant must have a very large dog that starting barking and bout scared me back into the car. And the ants in the window sill were somewhat off putting but the place is a older structure, my husband was entertained by picking on me saying they were gonna take my food. HA! not funny then or now.

Still only giving 3 stars. But I must say the only meal I will ever go there for is the prime rib.

Couldn’t figure out why it was so dark when we got there until we got our food. They don’t want you to see the mess you’re wasting your money on. We got fried mozzarella to start. It was fried so long we could only eat the middles because it was hard as a rock. I couldn’t let my 5 year old eat any in fear she would choke, or break a tooth. I got the filet with rice. The filet was cooked perfectly medium to my liking although it had no flavor. Then she brought my rice out and it was a complete bummer. It was about a quarter of a cup of hard dried out uncle bens chicken rice. Ick! I didn’t even eat it. Not to mention our soda tasted flat so I don’t know if it was old or what. Total waste of money!

Mason’s really has great food. Most of the menu is pretty reasonable. They have a burger called the ‘MasonBurger’ and its the greatest burger on the planet. No joke, best burger I have ever had in my life! Steaks are all very good as well, full bar with reasonable small town prices. Great place for dinner!
