My husband and I had dinner here last night. We were a bit early at around 530pm, but were greeted right away and taken to the rooftop. Service was excellent as there were no other patrons on the roof with us. I felt bad for the 2 servers splitting tables up there — and luckily others came as we were leaving. This place really seems like a pretty good vibe. Good wine selection, crafted cocktails and lots of small bites. They had some 4 nightly specials which were told to us, also sounded great. We, however, ordered the pork shank wings and crab cake with Brie. We then added the toscano pizza — pepperoni pizza with mozzarella and blue cheese. The wings were a little strange hitting the table with brucsetta style bread — polenta would compliment these 2 rib style shanks so much better… That was a little odd. Still enjoyable but for me some jalapeño polenta or something would go much better. The crab cake with Brie was a delicate little cake served on a parmesan cheese crisp. Really very good. The pizza was tasty, my hubby thought it was tasteless. I thought it was good; frozen chopped basil for its sauce may be why he felt it lacked flavor. A little pepper made it better. Overall, despite my comments, we really enjoyed this place. It was almost $ 55 for the two of us. The restaurant seems like a great catch. A little bit of a strange set up. Too many daily specials maybe. Not sure if there’s a door on the front of the building or not. But was a quiet Saturday which makes me hope it picks up here. Definitely a great roof top spot and worth a stop.

We were disappointed in this place after our first visit but decided to try again. It took forever to even get water once we were seated. We had to ask for napkins and silverware. My husbands steak was WAY overdone and tough. Also, petty thing, but their hamburger buns have caraway seeds in them? It’s sort of a strong taste to be not mentioned in the menu. Their food and wine is overpriced for quality. I don’t mind paying $ 35 for a good entrée but that’s too much for average food. Two good things though — the rooftop atmosphere is very nice and the fries are super good.

This is a solid three to four star restaurant and most the time more than 3. pricing is reasonable, portions I thought were nice food was nicely done I’ve had the lamb burger and the regular burger and Scampi and several other dishes, drinks are a little pricey and could use a touch more booze in them for the price Services nice but sometimes a little pretentious I still say come by and try the place out and in the summertime hit the roof but not in the dead of heat.

My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at Orupa. I ordered the Stromboli and it was the best I ever had. The Fettuccine Gambreni was solid. Great service and the house red wine was good. The bartender needs to work on the Greyhound but other than that, it was great place.

Went here on a date. I let the chef decide what i was eating. It was amazing. Got rid of the boyfriend now thinking about taking another lucky guy here. Im glad one good thing came out of that relationship, i found my favorite restaurant. My server was the nicest most polite gentleman ever, thumbs up.

My experience was not great. The food was overpriced(yes, I visited on New Year’s Eve during a special menu, so prices were inflated) and my meal was horrid. The server didn’t notice that I took two bites of my meal until the table had finished. Lucky I had eaten a late lunch, as dinner was a huge disappointment. I don’t think I’ll be back.

If you have been to Orupa more than once you know that the menu changes regularly and delicious new items are added for your enjoyment… tonight I was surprised to find that their menu include all new prices that were ridiculously inflated. I paid $ 30 for a half sized portion of Smoked Salmon Mac n’ Cheese… I was thoroughly disappointed by the taste and size of the dish. The incredibly big bowl was deceiving to the eye as the meal contained inside would have left a toddler begging for more. There was little cheese to speak of and the amount of Smoked Salmon was but only a light dusting on top. The salad was just as underwhelming as the bite-sized cheesy pasta sprinkled with fish. 1 celestial flaming ball of gas is enough for this restaurant as any more would hide the fact that the ravioli that was left uneaten on my friends plate. The server was very kind and our glasses were always full of water… I can only assume it was an attempt to fill our stomachs before the disappointment began.

This was ranked the best restaurant in the Mid Valley by Statesman Journal readers. Well, that’s Salem. If duck legs could think and feel, they’d be heartbroken by the crimes committed against them by this kitchen. Mine came with chewy ravioli — I think there was some pumpkin in them, but not enough to matter. Also two sad, skinny, fibrous, chewy asparagus spears. The duck itself was poorly seasoned, flavorless and the skin was very chewy. See how a theme is emerging? Chewy. There was a weird, flavorless blop of mashed potato into which penetrated a salty potato crisp and a past-its-prime basil leaf. The weirdest thing was the occasional overpowering taste of curry, and also of smoked salmon(there are both a tandoori-spiced chicken and a smoked salmon pasta on the menu.) The veal shank«in Osso Bucco sauce»(which is, FYI Orupa, a redundancy — the term refers to the bone, not the sauce) was simply boring. It came on a bed of ‘tomato & parmiggiano’ risotto, which was sort of a weird, soupy Spanish rice. The rest of the menu was one glaring display of culinary and/or typographical ignorance after another. I’ll just list a few here: I’m pretty sure that chicken pasta dish is cooked in Marsala wine, not ‘Marcella.’ I think the cheese you’re serving is ‘Rogue’ river, not ‘rouge’ river. Sugar, not suger. And whatever you may have been told in junior college, pasta alla carbonara does not have any of the things listed on the menu, but most especially not olive oil and garlic — those two things make it NOT carbonara. Eggs, cream, cheese, pancetta and pepper. That’s all. No olive oil, no garlic. No prosciutto(although we’re getting closer) and certainly no ham or salami. That’s just weird. The service was pleasant and prompt, so two stars instead of one. Given how few people were in there on a Friday night a week before Christmas, it was uncommonly loud. The décor is yup scale 1995. There are better restaurants, even in Salem. Go for Crooked House or 508 or even Bi Bim Bap House. Orupa is mid-market fashion modeling. There’s no heart or soul in this place.

Service, service, service is the name of this review. Our server was adorable and very friendly, as were the other servers, who dropped by a couple times and their timing was perfect, they were very friendly and they looked us in the eye when they talk to us and gave us their undivided attention which counts for a lot in my book. The restaurant itself is pretty nice and we sat right next to the kitchen. To be honest with you, when I saw the kitchen I thought, «oh no we’re going to hear clanking dishes and talking» and I was very impressed with their kitchen manners. They were very professional and they handled every plate and bowl carefully so that you hardly ever heard anything, a big round of applause for that effort. The bread, forget what it’s called, was very good and the salad was fresh. My dinner was decent and my dessert was pretty good but really what sold me was the service. Now, I will say that the corner area behind us needs some work, tables just kind of strewn and the fabric on the booths is awful. They look like the party store upholstered them, I recommend a solid color because these are pink and busy. I know it has nothing to do with the restaurant itself, but I was amazed to see guys in old jeans and wrinkled t-shirts and shorts walking around the restaurant like it was a Denny’s or something. I feel sorry for their wives or girlfriends. Guys, if you are reading this and you’re taking your girlfriend or wife out to dinner here, please dress up in at least a polo shirt, have some class. No shorts, absolutely no shorts!

Went to Orupa on an impromptu visit with some friends and really enjoyed myself! This was not my first time here and I intend to return in the future. The staff was very nice and we sat on the rooftop which was scenic and relaxing. Although this place has a reputation for being over-priced, I disagree. There is a great happy hour and outside of the happy hour the food is well worth the price. It is similarly priced to other nicer restaurants in Salem. I suggest sitting on the rooftop, the chop salad, and the pomaberry martini.

Sitting on the rooftop would have been great, but wasn’t offered to us. Only found out about it when offered to others! Service(aside from that) okay. Food okay. All wine kept upright at room temp(warm). Interior(seeing how didn’t get to see rooftop) pretty beat up and worn looking. Won’t be back.

If this was the last place in Salem open on the weekend I would try another’s bar in another city. While their drinks were OK the service was very lacking in knowledge of the menu, attention to customer needs, and cleanliness. I ordered one of their margarita pizzas and I would compare it to A frozen pizza from Safeway, only with nicer garnishment

Don’t waste your money! We went for a date nite and regret we did. Both entrees failed to impress, infact they failed in general. Looks are very deceiving! You know when you have to put a mile high presentation on EVERYTHING maybe your compensating for something? one dish bland and unmemorable for price. Ahi tuna– dry and shredded like dry chicken breast! HORRIBLE Flavor meh. Should have sent it back, but seriously I’m not a complainer. Created Unilocal solely to rate this restaurant:( We did have the«pleasure» of watching whom I imagine the mngr/owner? behind the bar flirting and showing off his bar tricks with the female customers and new wait staff— whom he could have spent time more wisely actually training as the obviously new staff bumbled rudely over our service. Thought we would try to drown our sorrows with dessert — the most horrible travesty of tiramisu I have ever seen. It was runny like soup! *sigh* not even in the ball park! Don’t bother one or two tries, we have wasted date nite 1 year apart and no change with 2nd visit a even more a total travesty! Can’t be a coincidence?!

Sat on the rooftop, which is by far the best seats in Salem on a sunny day. I highly recommend the paparass(sp?) a flat bread topped w/olives, peppers & a balsamic vinegar sauce served on a cutting board. I had the asparagus chicken salad which lived up to its name. My husband on the other hand ordered the seared ahi tuna, it looked a little gray on the outside, to me grey does not equate to seared. My husband, gracious as he is, did not complain and ate it anyways. Overall the experience was good, I however would not order a tuna special again.

I have never been impressed with this place. It has many good reviews and I honestly don’t know how. Aside from a good wine list, the food is very average. I ordered both the meat and cheese plates and both were the worst I’ve ever had. The cheese plate was literally cantaloupe and apples with a hunk of blue cheese. I’ve had a steak that was mediocre at best. Only redeeming factor is they carry Orin swifts wines. There are 2−300+ restaurants in portland that have much better food quality for half the price.

Went to dinner with our kids who say this is there go to place. I see why, very friendly staff. They even moved us because they had a large(loud) group up front. And then they allowed us to sit window side outside of the open kitchen. We all had different dishes but I will focus on mine, the pepper steak. I ordered it medium and it was perfect. It was very tender and tasty. The vegetables and mashed on the side were also delicious. Next time we are in town this is a strong option for us.

On a recent family outing, we were looking for a classy restaurant experience. I believe we found it at Orupa. Granted, it’s not cheap. But then again, many of the finer things in life are not. Many of the family members opted for different incarnations of the daily special. Mine was the Red Snapper with Crab Salsa. It was a hefty chunk of flaky white fish covered in crab salsa over a bed of mashed potatoes. The sauce was excellent. I would have liked a little more crab but all in all a nice dish. I had a sample of the Ahi Tuna and the Hangar Steak with Shitake Mushrooms. Both were exceptional. Real winners. The Ahi was perfectly done and seasoned well. The Steak was covered in a pepper brandy sauce. I would definitely try either again. We washed it down with a nice Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley(who knew Californians could make a great Pinot!) and a Napa Valley Cabernet. To top it off, the service was outstanding. It was a very pleasant evening. Great food, wine, and company. What more could you ask for.

I’ve driven past this place all the time and wanted to try it and finally came with my dad when he was in town. Right when we entered it was such a nice ambience we were greeted and seated immediately. The service was great throughout the entire night from the start of the meal to the end. The food was AMAZING especially with an emphasis on the presentation. I had the ahi tuna special and my dad had the pork chop special and both were fantastic especially the sauce with the ahi tuna. My drink the Martini special was delicious as well. Next time I come I definitely want to sit on the roof top terrace and this is definitely a place I would come back to.

Great menu, great service. its overall a really quiet and tasty place to bring a date. its more of an upscale feeling, so if you want something casual, this isnt quite the place, at least not for me. the food is good. Take your gal there for a classy night out. and get her flowers too. :) but for an everyday date place, choose elsewhere. this place is just not so casual.

Went here with the fam last Saturday night to celebrate my grandma’s 87th birthday. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items and answered all of our many questions. We munched on yummy bread and sipped on Sangria and chatted for a bit until our food came. I got the Pasta Carbonara which was lightly seasoned with olive oil and other herbs and spices with pieces of ham, salami, and prosciutto. Please do not order this meal without the meat, it would be an injustice. The spiciness of the meat really added flavor to the pasta. There were 6 of us in our party and everyone ordered something different and loved it all. I snagged one od my brother’s fries and will definitely be ordering those next time. I was a little disappointed that we spent so much money there and they didn’t even bring out a little treat for my grandma’s birthday. Also, the server indicated that their website is outdated because they lost the domain and are unable to update it… slightly annoying because I was craving the prosciutto, asparagus, and goat cheese appetizer they showed online. However, I do plan to go back. Next time I go it will probably be during happy hour from 4 to 6 where apps are ½ price at the bar!
