I wasn’t greeted very nicely and was told that this barber shop is by appointment only.

I love it here. My grandfather is a barber, so up until I moved to Oregon, I always had him cut my hair. Upon moving here I had a ‘salon’ give me haircuts. I always felt out-of-place and awkward getting my hair done next to a bunch of women. The conversation was always awkward and I was never really 100% happy with my haircut. While driving past I saw the ‘Paul’s Place’ sign. My name is Paul, so i figured it was worth a shot. I was immediately impressed. In many ways it was like stepping back into my grandpa’s barber shop. The décor, the demeanor, everything. Just a bunch of guys making conversation. The haircuts I have received are some of the best I have ever had. I love it here. They will have my business as long as I live in OR.

Paul has been cutting hair in this same location for years and has done it with a smile. As this entire corner of Four Corners has changed with new businesses and new faces, his barber shop is perhaps the only remaining business to have stayed intact over the last 30 years. Parking is limited, mainly due to the fact the shop shares the same lot with a busy restaurant and a next door bakery. The tiny shop itself probably can’t hold more than 10 people at once. He usually has an assistant with a magazine rack and a TV to keep his waiting patrons busy. Prices have never been an issue here, though they have gone up a tad in recent years to keep up with our surging inflation and lackluster economy. Paul is worth the try for men’s haircuts, though I don’t think he’d shy away from a female looking for a style makeover. Ultimately he’s one of Salem’s finest, no frills barbers and will hopefully continue to hold his fort over the next few decades.
