I had jury duty in January and was excited to try this place out for lunch. I love sushi, I’m not picky about sushi, and I don’t have bad gag reflexes or anything. The shrimp tempura roll… I threw it all up into my napkin. Dry-heaved afterward in the courthouse bathroom. Not sure what it was about the shrimp tempura roll… but it did not stay down. I was not impressed with this place.

I was really dissapointed with the sushi here i was looking for some higher quailty sushi but it wasnt, it was decent not what i had expected nor what i was craving. The chicken teriyaki however was good so they get an extra star for that. If it were up to the sushi alone i would give it one stars. Its cheap sushi so dont expect much.

$ 1.50PLATE for orange color dish and 2.50 for green? Not expensive but not tasty either. I came here at 1230 which should be a good lunch rush but that didnt happen. The guy server wasnt very nice. The food wasnt great. The menu was sticky. That is GROSS! I saw some people had stir fry dish but I didnt see on the menu. There wasnt too many varieties. I saw a cheesecake, cucumber salad, bowl of strawberries, sliced salmon, oregon roll ect. It didnt taste old but it didnt taste too fresh either. Glad I tried it, because I wont be going back. However the decorations are cute. One side of the room is painted with mackerels and octopus while the other is plain solid.

Wonderful low-key sushi, with sushi-bar custom roll menu with pricing comparable to that of fast food. The chef was friendly and happy, and the hostess/waitresses are always lively. There’s always some recognizable film or TV playing on a flat screen but not too loudly, providing good family-friendly entertainment for children while one enjoys a good conversation. They now also offer veggie and meat rice bowls making this a good pick for my vegetarian friends. I have been there about 20 times total by now, and am so happy downtown Salem has Sushi Topia in the neighborhood.

First two times we went to try this place it was a weekend during lunch time. ALWAYSCLOSED. We finally had the opportunity to try it during a business day lunch and… EWWW. To start off, there was only tenth of the belt that had sushi in rotation. The miso was super salty. The sushi tasted old and fell apart when I tried to pick it up with the chopsticks. So it either was old, just made poorly, or both. I am pregnant, and have been craving sushi. Most places I just eat the cooked and shrimp sushi without guilt. After eating here, I worried a bit. I lived though, without any food poisoning. I noticed this place was for sale, so let’s hope whoever buys it, does a better job.

Good: Rice was prepared well, not very expensive, conveyer belt Bad: Chef using torch too much trying too hard for trendy mayo drizzled stuff, not enough sashimi or variety. meh

Great customer service every time! After my experience last night at Sushi Topia, I must post an update and give them an extra star. BF and I took his kids in for dinner just about an hour before closing time… on a Friday night. Selection was(understandably) light on the sushi track, so we ordered a few rolls from the menu. We had great timing because, shortly after we arrived, the place filled up! The sushi chefs were working hard to get sushi on the track as well as getting custom orders out. The new waitress mixed up a few orders but the chefs were there to help her out and get everyone taken care. The couple across the counter from us also commented on how great the service was. While I still pine for the variety and freshness from Portland train-style sushi joints, the consistently great customer service(and decent food) from the peeps at Sushi Topia has made me a loyal local fan.

First of all, yes, as other reviewers have pointed out, this place is actually called Sushi Topia. I’ve gone to multiple sushi places in Oregon, and while this place can be a passable sushi establishment, it’s not a place I would go to every day. I concede that it can be a good place for Willamette University students to go to if they want sushi(the food is pretty cheap and the place is located a few blocks from the campus). The selection is OK, although choices like their orange chicken or teriyaki chicken get cold and are not very appetizing if left on the conveyor belt for an extended period of time. Hopefully, you can go during a time where the food has just been prepared(staff will put more plates on the conveyor belt throughout the day as people eat). Obviously, the fresher your food is, the better.

I had been promising my niece sushi and she was in town so this is where we went. Positive is the sushi was $ 1.50 a plate. But for $ 1.50 what can you expect? Portions on the sushi were small. Conveyor belt. Not much to choose from so I ordered from the menu. Rolls were ok. They don’t have my favorite soft shell crab. The waitress was very nice and so was the chef. If you want cheap quick sushi this is ok. If you want quality melts in your mouth sushi this is not the place. But I only spent $ 20 vs $ 50 to $ 100.

Apparently the name of this place is actually Sushi Topia. I discovered this a few weeks ago when I went to Pita Pit(it was recommended by the Pita Pit employees) and was intrigued by the happy hour(daily from 11:00 am– 3:00 pm) where every plate is just $ 1.50. The rolls are made by experienced sushi chefs and there is a good variety. One thing I don’t really like about the presentation is that many of the rolls are plated atop either a teriyaki sauce or a spicy chili sauce – I prefer standard soy sauce and wasabi. And one thing to watch out for in happy hour are the green plates – regularly priced 1.25 are 1.50 during happy hour. Good sushi though. I’ve been back three times.
