I really want this restaurant to be supported in Salina because it’s unique food! The service we had was outstanding, our waiter was very attentive and kind. I had jambalaya and it was great, not completely authentic Cajun but great for Salina.

I’ve been wanting to visit here for months. I’m dang glad I did not read these reviews before I came in. I got here at 11:30 and it was quiet before lunch. The jazzy brass music plays on the background. This place is way more classy than I thought. Lots of open seating, not too cramped. A library and seating area is at the end of the room which gives a warm feel to the room. Love the ambience. The food was all homemade and excellent. I had fried catfish, with homemade red sauces and tartar sauce. The creamed corn was homemade and sweet, delicious. The catfish was two long planks. I was only able to eat one. The price was very reasonable. I will definitely be back and I’m bringing friends! I came back the next day and had the homemade chicken tender basket with two home made sides. It was still totally delicious. Our waiter John was by far the best waiter I’ve had in years. We ordered the white chocolate banana bread pudding — this was one of the most delicious desserts I’ve had in a very long time. I do want to say this review is genuine. I do not know anyone who works or owns this business. I think it’s just that good.

I’ve eaten here three times and ordered carry out once. Each time my food was good. I’ve had the fried catfish, which was very good and crispy. The jambalaya was different from what I’ve had in the past, but it was still quite good. The crawfish ettoufe is my favorite selection at Heart of Dixie, although it may be a bit rich for some people, but has an amazing flavor. The beignets were a little greasy, but tasted good and were light and puffy. My favorite desert is the bread pudding, which comes in a size that could easily be split between two people.

Horrible experience and the food is not good at all. My catfish was undercook and was pink in side. Save your money and go eat somewhere else. I didn’t even finish my food at all. Good luck!

The overall experience was very enjoyable and a breath of fresh air for Salina! It is awesome to have a new restaurant in town that is not a chain! Definitely worth your while to check it out! I went in with a party of 6 and of course tried several different items on the menu. The hummus plate was amazing especially the flatbread! The crawfish étouffée was really well done with good texture and flavor with a little kick but not too spicy. The red beans and rice with andouille and the oyster po’ boy were also well done and staples of the menu. The jambalaya had good flavor but was not one of our favorites. The gumbo was a little different and was very smoky with a robust flavor but overall done well. The cornbread had good flavor but was dry. The plates were presented very nicely and the atmosphere was also great. The server was not knowledgeable of the menu. I understand that it might have been just a few days into her employment, but your face of the restaurant needs to know the menu and how to pronounce the items properly. A little more training on the server side is in order, I believe. Also, our entire group probably would have ordered some drinks but the prices were a little high for the area in my opinion. We plan to enjoy your establishment again soon! Thanks for the great meal!

Glad to see another independent owned restaurant in Salina and especially downtown! My husband and I love the place. Original food made from scratch, even the bacon on my salad was real bacon, no fake bacon bits from a bottle. My husband loved the jambalaya. Both our families have also ate there n loved it. Step dad n my mom raved about the fried pickles n the jicama ketchup(they had never had it before) that came with it!!!

Good ambiance. I’m from the Southeast and didn’t feel like the decorations were overdone. My wife had a honey-peanut-butter burger which was pretty good. Sweet potato fries with maple syrup on the side was an interesting combo that we enjoyed. I had an excellent shrimp po-boy and the best collard greens I’ve ever had. Slightly sweet(surprisingly) cooked with bacon and onions. Prices were fair for lunch; average price of a po-boy or burger was $ 7.50. I’d eat here again. In regards to other reviews, there was a sign posted that said«seat yourself,» so it seems they’ve addressed the being unnoticed when entering problem.

We ate here for the first time today and we will not be going back. Out waitress was not friendly. She did not know the menu. My order was wrong and the meat under cooked. Food not good. Prices to much for what little we got. Plus the building smelled bad.

Our experience was quite unpleasant. We seated ourselves and waited 15 minutes before anyone came to talk to us. There were only three other customers in the establishment. When the waiter finally arrived he knew nothing about any of the items on the menu. We asked repeatedly for our drinks my husbands water was never brought. The food was simply horrendous. They tried to pass off hushpuppies as beignets. Throwing powdered sugar on fried cornmeal does not magically make it a beignet. My hamburger was frozen in the middle and extremely bland. The fries were soggy, greasy and tasteless. My husbands shrimp creole was watery and the vegetables undercooked. After numerous attempts to make an honest comment on this establishments Face Book page the only response was and I paraphrase that they didn’t know what happened to certain post that disappeared. I can assume despite their claim to not be filtering comments is that like their shrimp creole they watered down the true reviews. If you are looking for a «Cajun food with a little southern thrown in» save your time and money and order from Cajun Grocer to have the«real deal». After growing up in the south and living in Louisiana for over ten years I was excited to see this establishment open. I will drive 13 hours back to Louisiana or cook the authentic food in my own home before I darken the doorway of this apparently dishonest establishment. At no time should this place be called a restaurant let alone Cajun or southern. To do so is an insult to restaurants, the south and Cajuns. Shame on the young lady who grew up in Salina KS for trying to fool her hometown people with this atrocity.

I was in recently. Upon arrival we had to stand at the front door for several minutes before any servers realized that we were even there. Then when they went to seat us they had to ask around to see whose turn was next. I went to order a beer, and the first two beers that I tried to order you were out of. Upon ordering one meal was hot, the others were very cold. The fries were mush and not warm at all. The condiments that I had asked for never arrived and nobody checked back. The bartender was constantly playing with her hair and shirt while she was in the middle of making drinks without washing her hands. The manager was walking around with an open Mountain Dew can, drinking it and setting it everywhere while he just just stood around. Food 2 – 401.11 Eating, Drinking, or Using Tobacco. There were only two or three tables while the rest of downtown was absolutely packed. The only good thing was one of the kitchen guys(dark hair with ear rings) came up to the table, asked us how everything was, got us the things that we were never brought. THAT guy should be the manager since it seemed like he was the only one who cared. The food was not worth the price, the service was nonexistent. Have tried getting in contact over social media. They delete all of their bad postings and now have to have anything approved before it will post. Since the majority of their postings are all negative. Get it together. Downtown doesn’t need another crappy business.

My wife and I had high hopes for this restaurant. The service was overall poor. The staff was friendly but not knowledgeable about menu items. Drinks were slow to be brought out, and I had to ask four times for the glass of water I ordered with my beverage. The décor in the restaurant is modern and clean.(Old Mokas stuff) The plates and silverware are new and nice. I ordered the hummus and shrimp creole. Hummus and fried pita bread was very tasty. Shrimp creole not good. The vegetables were just barely cooked and crunchy. My wife ordered a hamburger and fries. They goofed up her burger and did not make it plain with cheese. It was so-so. The French fries were just like homemade and not over cooked. They were quite tasty. The Beignets were awful. They were actually just hush puppies with powdered sugar. Not the real deal. I cannot recommend this restaurant. I hope they get in the game or they will close soon.
