Can you say diamond in the rough… A small bakery shop on the east side of town. My girlfriend told me about this place and how I had to go and try the tortas there. At first I was skeptical but after her buying one and offering me half I was sold. Half a torta here is the size of a regular torta anywhere else. $ 10 Yes! I say $ 10 bucks for two tortas the size of a sub sandwich jam packed with meat. It’s honestly getting four tortas for $ 10. They’re that BIG!!! and flavor? on point! Full of flavor… a torta done right. Oh and don’t forget the fresh pastries being rolled out fresh constantly. Sweet tooth had me like I want it all. A must try people!

This is one of those mama and pop bakeries you want to visit! not a big fancy place, however they make up for it in their assortment of pastries. I noticed they also have unique items not seen before.

Thought I give this place a try in the morning before starting work. Two small pastries and a warm coffee…$ 4 It felt it was overpriced. Pastries and coffee where ok.

Oh. My. Conchas. What started out as a well intentioned stop for two take-away tortas turned into a binge buying extravaganza when I was face to face with some of the most glorious pastries I’ve ever seen. Racks upon racks of fresh conchas, doughnuts, churros, cakes, cookies, pan dulce(buns), rolls, pan francés — all fresh from the oven. I launched into my own personal Veruca Salt moment as I couldn’t leave until my bag(okay, bags) were completely stuffed. My torta paled in comparison, as anything would after my dessert first course. However the bread roll it was on? Incredible. If you’re in the mood for some mind blowing baked goods, don’t miss this wonderful little shop.

Only one lone review for this dessert oasis… I’m incredulous! I just had a late night work meeting in Salinas and noticed across the street, like a beacon in the night, a bakery that was open at 845! I pulled over to take a peek and to grab a sweet treat for the ride home. Perfect timing, I arrived right as a fresh batch of bakery treats were being wheeled in. I picked up a tray and a set of tongs and snagged a few desserts fresh off the baking racks. Score! After mulling over which ones to bring home, I finally decided to go with the Mexican elephant ear with ribbons of fruit, the cacahuete(two mega cookies stuck together with frosting) and a fruit-filled pastry. The elephant ear was incredibly incredibly delicious. Warm, flaky, perfectly sweet; crispy outside with a soft inside. This and the cacahuete are worth a special trip out to Salinas for me. When I went up to the counter to pay, I couldn’t believe the total price. Three pastries and a coke for only $ 4! Amazing! La Soledad Bakery has shelves and shelves laden with lavish treats. They have the embuelito(coconut dusted jelly rolls), Mexican cheesecake, oreja(akin to French palmiers — cinnamon and sugar crisps), churros, bolilos(savory stuffed breads, including ham, cheese, jalepenos and chiles), bavarian cream stuffed desserts, fresh-baked breads and rolls, various empanadas and lots of lunch and dinner items, including tortas, burritos and soups. Can’t wait to tear into my third pastry tomorrow at lunch. Might try and swing by the car wash center and give my car a nice vacuum treatment too — a pound of pastry crumbs was left in the wake of my dessert crushing. This place is really something else! Sorry I have no accompanying pics to post… in my haste to satisfy my sweet tooth, I experienced a momentary lapse. Forgiven? Open till 9pm everyday too.
