Vargas Cabinets

Terrible experience from beginning to end. We were introduced to Ozzie by our general contractor and designer with huge compliments about his ability to get the job done on time, on budget and with high quality. They missed each one of these, costing us in overruns, fixes (by another company) and delays to our move-​in date.
Despite repeatedly asking for designs and plans, we never saw anything until the cabinets were (incorrectly) installed. The issues were many and wide-​ranging but an example was building the oven cabinetry (with a microwave above the wall oven) which had the microwave more than 6′ up. This would have been a struggle for me to use, let alone the kids (or missus!)
Then there were the drawers and shelves with raw, unfinished wood tacked on and a lack of straight edges (I question if there’s a level in their shop at all).
Avoid.

Ozzie is a very friendly man and he made a beautiful alder entry door, some nice knotty alder wood interior doors for me, two custom maple dressers, a nice vanity and linen tower combo.
My final order from him was for a solid wood fire door. He installed a paneled and very knotty garage-​to-​kitchen door that he should have known does not meet fire code. Also, another contractor reminded me that the door hinges need to be self closing. But they were not. I placed several phone calls to Ozzie and Oscar and they agreed to come out on a certain week but they did not show up. More phone calls and messages left and they never responded again. I had to pay another contractor to finish the work. The other contractor and I both worried that the City of Santa Clara would reject the fire door because it was knotty and paneled. Luckily they did not but if I have any more work /​inspections it may fail the next time. Ozzie should know the fire rules /​requirements, keep his appointments and return phone calls. Even though he does good work, he does not follow up when there are problems and reluctantly I would not do business with him again.

Best custom wood work in Northern California. I have worked with Oscar and Osvaldo for years, I love their ideas and flexibility. I am always on the search for new projects because of much needed wardrobe space. I have custom shelfs, dressers, closet doors, etc. all done by Vargas Cabinets. They are so patient and have been able to best fit my needs. They have great spirit and a pleasure to work with. A couple years back they moved to Hollister for bigger work space, I wish them continued triumph and success.

Terrible. We had two vanities custom made by Vargas Cabinets. The owner Ozzie is quick to make a deal but takes a long time to deliver. Once he delivered the design and color was off. He poorly improved on the color of one vanity but never installed handles and broke the door casing during installation. He did not come back to finish installation and correct the design. The quality of the vanities was poor and it was a lousy job. He is not returning phone calls, text messages or emails. Very unprofessional. Stay away.
