Don’t let the name fool you. Two Twelve Arts Center is really at 216 W. Mich. Ave., a move that gave them more space for all the activities. There are classes for all ages and experience levels. I have been there for gallery openings. The entire range of artistic expression is to be found at this place, from painting and photography to sculpture and other 3-D art, and all forms of textile arts. I have also been there for a sit and stitch type event where everyone at the table was working on a different textile project. One of my friends, Karen L., is a long-time member of the Friday morning«Cake Eaters» and makes mostly textile projects with knit/crochet and felted wool. I often see exhibits of pieces made by the Cake Eaters at the Saline District Library. I enjoy the ever-changing art exhibits as much as browsing the books there.

212 is more than an art gallery — it’s an art community that’s welcoming, warm, with a varied list of class offerings for the amateur and professional alike wishing to explore the many varieties of art expression. Wheel throwing, silk screening, oil painting, drawing, jewelry, glass, soaps, candles, quilt making, sewing, mosaic, printmaking, etc. etc. etc. 212 also features a different local artist each month with a nice artist’s reception. Definitely a wonderful place to take that class you have been wanting to take forever, and their classes tend to be cheaper than the Ann Arbor Art Center, with a more intimate feel.
