Beehive Tea Room

I am very sad to see that the Beehive Tea Room has closed it’s doors permanently. I always found the food and tea to be delightful, and the staff welcoming and friendly. It was a great place to escape the world. It will be missed!

The Beehive Tea Room is great for so many occasions and they have a huge variety of tea selections. The atmosphere is very unique and relaxing and the servers are friendly and efficient. I haven’t been there for the Afternoon Tea Service but the menu items I’ve tried (hummus sandwich, cookies and of course tea) have all been exceptional.
They do allow kids/​babies and have high chairs available although it’s not really intended for kids :)

Quaint place for a cup of tea and a good book.

I like to visit this place when i need to have a small meeting or I need to work in a place with Wi-​FI.
The tea is amazing and the selection is nearly unprecedented in Salt Lake. They also have good sandwich and snack selections.
I like to visit this place when I need a quiet relaxing place to get some work done. Good tea and good food.

I am in love with this place. So kitschy and cute tucked in the heart of downtown. You can order any type of tea and sit in their adorable booths to drink it. They also have lovely little snacks, sandwiches and they sell teacups & kettles as well. Awesome place for a girls lunch out.

Love this place! Been going for around three years. The young women (and it’s always young women) who are the servers are always so nice and friendly and helpful.
It has such a great, 1930s flapper, home style feel inside. With minimalist art (such as a frame framing the wall), color coordinated books and beehive art, this is one of the most unique and terrific places around.
The food is always great too. Lisa the owner said «It’s 1930 home style cooking.» They make everything except the petite four which they get locally and their cakes. I usually see the owner carrying in free fruit, vegetables and other products in the morning when they open. Most of the menu is vegetarian and the soups are the best around!

Awesome in every way. It’s only open until 6:30, but that’s my only complaint.
The decorations are a mix of retro, British, and Asian. They combine to make a very cozy space. I could hang out here all afternoon.
You can order a la carte (i.e. you don’t have to do a formal afternoon tea). Cucumber sandwiches, pasties, soup, larger sandwiches. It’s all great.
Extensive tea selection. The Beehive cream and honey and chai teas are both awesome. Also a good beer selection.
The desserts are amazing. I’ve had the poppyseed coffecake several times and never get tired of it.

Great tea and drink selection. Love that they have cute sugar cubes! Have desserts and sandwiches too. Relaxing atmosphere and easy location. Parking can be a challenge on busy downtown days. Love the overhead hanging lights and old-​timey music!

What magical place is this? A tea room place that also sells beer?!
Yes, this is true. This place sells BEER AND TEA with English crumpets and hummus and cucumber sandwiches and other delicate finger foods.
Did I get hit by a car? Nope, this place is legit! It’s fancifully decorated and their selections of teas and tea cups and cute tables makes tea time a reality for us adults.
My only complaint is that the hours are early and when I feel like going here at night it is closed.
Sad times, but I do love to go here when I’m not an owl.

It will cost your pocket book a pretty penny for some scones but the currants will take you home. If you want to fall in love, this would be the place. A haven for a scone, an apology, and some earl gray.

The tea selection is large, the sandwich selection is small (as the food menu is rather limited), but the hummus sandwich that I tried was excellent. A fun little eclectic place that is a welcome addition to SLC.

The little triangular biscuits that they call scones are not English Scones (which are bigger and round, more cakey, and full of plump raisins)… and they don’t serve them with jam — they come with some kind of runny jelly.
What they call ‘Passties’ are really ‘Pasties’.
The service is slow, no matter how much time you have to spend there — and it’s expensive for what it is. Just not my cup of tea.

Man, I adore this place so hard. When I was still living in SLC, it was my favorite place to bring people to for a tea/​light lunch hangout spot since they would inevitably find something they loved about it too.
It’s definitely crammed full of décor, but it’s actually quite charming. The Green Tea Chai is the best damn chai I’ve ever tasted. Goes real swimmingly with their scones, which vary in flavor depending on the day.
I prefer to come on the weekdays when it’s less busy… if you’re looking for some genuinely quiet sipping time, it’d be best not to pick Saturday/​Sunday to come.
Tea selection is wonderful, food is refreshingly light yet filling. The servers/​register girls there are always friendly and sweet. I don’t miss living in SLC, but I sure do miss this place a lot.

One of my favorite places to study. Though you may have to fight for one of the few available outlets (they don’t like it when you unplug one of their 8,000 lamps) and one of the sprinkle of study-​worthy tables, it’s worth the risk.
I guess you could say this place is a little over-​themed, but I find it’s jam-​packed quirkiness a plus. It’s certainly cute, and the tea is fantastic. Be patient here, there are usually only two or three people on staff at any given time, and if there are more than that many people in the place (say, if there is a tea party reserved for that day) then it takes a few minutes for your tea to get to you. Likewise, they take their time preparing their food and pretty much always get it right. They tried to tell you that in the many little signs floating around the front counter – they are not a fast food restaurant. So don’t come here in a hurry, don’t come here to get something to go. Come here to sit and drink tea and try something yummy from their bake-​cases.

The Beehive Tea Room is much funkier than I envisioned. It has victorian-​style furniture and décor yet is not overly formal. The staff are cute and friendly free-​spirits and the tea is served in cute china. The food was more filling than I envisioned and the tea was quite delicious. I ordered the green tea cherry rose and it was a refreshingly soothing drink and my partner ordered the black tea with almonds which tasted like a drinkable russian tea cake! I did not try the desserts but the triangle spinach and artichoke sandwhiches and the spinach quiche were both savory dishes. I would get any of those items again.
One needs to order at the front and food is brought out to patrons. The food came out quite quickly. I did need to remind my waitress to bring a glass of water but that was all that I could think of that stood out amongst the delightful atmosphere that could be right out of a Henry James novel. I will go again with my girlfriends! It is available to rent for private parties as well.

This place is so much fun! The atmosphere is unique and very cozy. It’s become busier, so sometimes it’s harder to find a good seat. I love their tea selection and pastries. They’re really good! This place is great to relax at, read a book, study (free wifi), and eat something tasty!

I love this place!

To think, had I turned right on State Street the other night I’d never know this place exists. The treats and décor are excellent. I’m not a huge connoisseur of coffee and tea — nor did I sample it, but the hot chocolate was really good.
The place is a series of small rooms that serves homemade sandwiches, breakfasts, cookies and fancy chocolates. They’ve got a long list of teas, Italian sodas and coffees. They’ve got cozy chairs and a consistent décor, that’s kind of a Victorian library or back room of an Anthropologie.
Folks, we live in a world of Starbucks, McDonalds and Wal-​Mart — and while I can appreciate a Starbucks drink for what it is (we have one in the lobby of the building I work in — it’s great in that corporate setting) But if you want to hang out and really enjoy a caffeinated drink with your friends or relax while you write short stories or workshop plans for a new paranoia-​based political party, this is the spot to do it. I judge it not only as a tea room, but as it’s bigger role as a unique and refreshing part of the urban landscape.
The place was full of people, probably because of Sundance and live music, so we took it back to our hotel around the corner. Service was fine too — I’m not one to over-​emphasize negatives of a place being popular, that a hostess didn’t coddle my emotions or that some waitress forgot to bring me a napkin. (None of this happened to me, but if it happens to you: Get someone’s attention, or just get it yourself and move on.)
It’s a cozy shop and a great little event space I could hang out in for hours. You’d be lucky to have an experience like this in any town.

Let’s start with the good stuff. (1) The gals who work here are really nice. (2) The atmosphere is SUPER cute with its kitchy décor and plush seating. But.
The tea was just okay– my Beehive Cream & Honey black tea was nice, but the flavor was a little flat. Which surprised me. I intentionally chose a popular flavor, thinking that would mean the leaves would be fresher due to high demand. Don’t get me wrong; it was decent. Just not great.
I should probably mention that it took them over half an hour to make my cold sandwich (spinach and artichoke on multigrain). For a moment I thought maybe they were roasting the artichokes or something. But no, it was just cold and plain. Kind of bewildering.
I’d say if you’re just looking for an adorable place to plop down and chat for awhile, Beehive’s a good place for that. I probably wouldn’t go there for an exceptional tea and dining experience, though.
That said, I’m going to give the Beehive a second chance and go back for afternoon tea (NOTE: you have to reserve it 24 hours in advance). I’m hoping they’ll surprise me and I’ll come back with a 5-​star review.

I don’t really drink tea, nor do I eat too many finger sandwiches. However, entering the Beehive Tea Room is a singular experience. You will not find another place like this in Utah.
My friend and I stepped up to the counter and ordered French press coffee, a pot of their specially made green tea (infused with the flavor of milk and honey), cranberry-​currant scones, and a petit four (that they fly in from Los Angeles). We then moved on to selecting a table.
The seating at the Beehive is so unique. You can wander the various rooms looking for just the right place to sit and relax or dish on work & friends, or simply to see & be seen. Each set of chairs is different. Some tables are low and wide, some are tall and narrow. The booths are very intimate. Sitting that close, surrounded by mirrors, just makes you want to tell secrets! We decided on a booth.
The coffee and tea arrived with the scones and pastry in tow. Everything was excellent: scones were incredibly tender, petit four was fresh. The coffee and tea service were elegant in an understated way. Special note: my coffee was served with heavy cream. Holy cow.
The décor of the Beehive has to be mentioned. It is 1940’s style (I think – I’m no expert). Special care has been taken to see that all the furniture, light fixtures, wall paint, wall hangings, etc all fit the era. They really nailed the décor. I found myself wondering about the little Asian wall hangings, the old hardcover books on the shelves, the light sconces. It’s just an immersive experience – it feels like going back in time.
I am now listing the Beehive as a «must see» for friends visiting town. If you’re looking to take a half hour out of your day and really enjoy a cup of tea or coffee along with some conversation… the experience at Beehive can’t be beat.

I wanted to like it. Quaint little place. Their seperate little private couch room that you’re not allowed to use took up half the joint.
Service was so incredibly slow… oh man… I’ve never waited so long for so little.
Yah the tea is good. And I don’t like tea. Real men drink coffee.
The little sandwiches were good. I wanted more. But I didn’t want to wait another 20 minutes.
The place was dead, too. No need to wait so long for so little. Still felt cramped even with only a few other people in the place. Pass.
