I’m somewhat new to the area, and have been going off Unilocal ratings to choose new places to try which is how I came across Caffe Niche. The breakfast menu was just too tempting so we went for it. Now I’m one who enjoys cooking and I almost never ever go out for breakfast or brunch,. Because I think making breakfast is way too easy. Any way we get to this place and I can already tell it’s very well liked by locals. The building is old but the interior was totally remodeled for the caffe pretty obvious because it’s very nice inside. Now here’s where my only complaint comes in,. It’s very cramped. I’m a skinny man and I still struggled to get to my seat but to also be fair,. I made reservations for a large group when I came,. So I’m sure that had a lot to do with it. Any way my wife ordered their biscuits and gravy which was surprisingly a very big portion. I had the corned beef brisket with a poached egg. I was very happy with my choice. I also had their Carmel macchiato which was great! Good place worth making a visit,. It was more original than most breakfast joints.

The Asian Salad has been a long-time favorite of mine. But the last few times I’ve ordered it the chef has left off key ingredients that make the salad delicious and beautiful like avocado and tomatoes! My friend always orders her salad with chicken instead of steak, but again the last few times the chicken has been horrible, all dark meat. Please start making this salad amazing again! When you get it right it’s the best salad in SLC.

I drive past Caffe Niche at least once a day. I hadn’t stopped in in years, not since the menu was redone with new management(?). So when my office had to take a half day for building construction, we decided to do lunch — and I suggested checking the Niche out. We piled in to the café on a Friday at noon. It wasn’t insane inside, but regardless we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. That was fine, we weren’t in a hurry, as we were out of work for the day. Once seated, we looked over the drink menu. I went with the Pinot Noir — after all, who DOESN’T want wine in the early afternoon? Captain Hindsight here says I really could have done without the wine, especially due to the amount of money purely put towards my dish. Now to the menu. After fast perusal, I quickly realized that there wasn’t much to be desired as a Vegetarian, or if you weren’t wanting to spend a ton. When I say Caffe Niche offers very few options for vegetarians… I mean they offer very few hearty, filling options. For their lunch hours, they have a total of 4 sandwiches on the menu, not a single one containing pure veggies. This is odd. This is so easy to fix. So, I was forced to be sent to the SALAD options. $ 14 for the Warm Quinoa Salad. Though the price severely turned me off,(Maybe it was the wine that provoked me into it!) I went with it in hopes that it would provide something of a surprise. It didn’t. $ 14 for what I received made me both externally and internally shudder. My dish was small, comprising of a bed of arugula that was way too heavily salad-dressing-ed. On top of the greens, was a fairly small amount of quinoa mixture with caramelized onions and tomatoes(I think there were a total of 2 small tomatoes in this concoction, and I caught very few onion flavors). I ate everything — there was no way I was going to let that $ 14 go to waste… but throughout each bite, in my head, all I was repeating was: «I could replicate this for a total max of $ 3. I could replicate this for a total max of $ 3.» And guess what? I did.(And though I didn’t do the exact math, it’s probably for even less than my estimated value… especially when you buy items in bulk!). I think the atmosphere and establishment of Caffe Niche is gorgeous and very sophisticated. It is a place I wish I could bring myself to spend more time at — but this will be a rare occurance. I left the doors of Caffe Niche $ 24 dollars short, with a slight hole in my soul, and craving a veggie packed sandwich. I’ll make my way back to give Niche a second round if I can easily get a veggie sandwich without feeling like a nuisance(That being said, the other meat-filled sandwiches looked amazing — and seemed like a lot better deal for the price asked).

Meh the food was okay. I had the coffee French toast and it was a little too intense. My date had buscuits and gravy and it was alright. Awesome bacon. Awesome restaurant in terms of ambiance and service and décor. Brussel sprouts were not that great. Good place to try once. Not my favorite though.

My favorite breakfast place in town by far! The food is healthy and amazing, they use lots of local ingredients. I usually get the biscuits and gravy, wow. It has an extremely classy ambience. I very rarely have to wait to be seated and the service has always been excellent. Do yourself a favor and skip the over crowded hipster breakfast spots around town and go to Niche.

We enjoyed an amazing pre-fixe New Years Eve dinner with friends. Café Niche a a hip comfortable gem nestled at the foot the Avenues just east of downtown. The great a great bar area an a dining that inspires relaxation and coversation. The menu selection is excellent with each dish prepared is perfect in my experience. This night we started with caesar salad which was good and a mushroom soup which caused you to do a double take with your tongue. We also sample pork tenderloin, beef filet and salmon. All were delicious. They have an excellent cocktail and wine menu. I think I had the best Manhattan I’ve ever tasted there and I’ve sample many Manhattan’s. The service was attentive but relax and friendly.

Came in for lunch since it was our last stop in SLC before heading to the airport. We ordered mostly salad dishes and a sandwich. The food was good but the price point for salad was a bit on the high side — $ 15. Nonetheless, the overall experience was a good one. The only suggestion that I would like to recommend to the management team is to have a better ventilation. It was way too smoky and the smell sticks to your clothing.

this last dinner experience was a disaster overall for our entire table of 11 people. we were seated inside next to a large group that were extremely loud throughout our entire dinner. if they had two big parties i would think that they would seat them separately from each other so that the noise level is more balanced throughout the dining room. i felt like i was screaming the entire time just to be heard and kept having to ask others to repeat what they were saying. it was also very hot in here. i am usually always cold — i carry a sweater or cardigan even in the summer. but man it was toasty in there and everyone else agreed. they finally opened a door by the time we were almost done, but it would have been nice if they had cranked up the A/C or opened that door earlier. our service was meh. the server seemed nice, but she was very slow and provided just average service. since it was taking forever to get our food(i want to say at least 45 minutes, but probably closer to an hour), and we needed to be out of there early, we asked for our bill as soon as our food came out. our bill took forever to come and then it was done incorrectly. we had to flag her down to fix it and she wanted to take the credit card before giving us a new bill. another example of poor service is that one of our friends had ordered clam chowder soup. everyone else’s appetizers, soups, and salads had come out, but not hers. we noticed this later and finally had to ask the server to bring out the clam chowder. she either forgot to place the order or was going to wait to bring it out with her entrée. the third example of poor service was when she brought out an appetizer that included bread. when she set the plate down the bread fell onto the table. instead of getting our friend a new set of bread, she just put it back on the plate. yuck! now onto the food itself. i had tried their cocktail special which was the jack and jill spritzer. it was so gross and overly sweet. i passed it around the table and everyone had the same feedback. i ordered the mahi mahi tacos which were a bit bland and dry. several people ordered chicken and reported that it was also dry. two friends had entrees that were suppose to have poached eggs, but both of them had the egg completely cooked. i use to love this place, but i probably won’t be back after this awful experience.

Modern and hip designed restaurant that serves fresh, organic, and locally sourced! And also serves breakfast all day! Oh I love you, Caffe Niche. However after my three visits, it was pretty disappointing. Heartbreaking! Ivane and I visited this place after a morning work out. I ordered something light, Yogurt with fruit. It was nothing extraordinary but refreshing. After reading couple reviews, everyone recommended Kobe Corned Beef Hash. Obviously Ivane ordered one and I ordered one to go for my husband. It was a while ago and I cannot recall what Ivane thought of the beef hash. However my husband thought it was ok dish and ended up having diarrhea after it. No, no way it can be that bad? I decided to give them another try. Few month later, I invited a friend to try this restaurant. We ordered two salads and one Thai butter squash soup. I heard food critic highly recommend the Thai butter squash soup but to us, it tasted bland and the texture was grainy. We ended up just had a few sip of the soup. The salads were pretty good but we found short brunette wavy male hair in my salad. The server immediately apologized and took off the salad on the receipt. Ok, that was another disappointing visit. Ivane returned back to Utah for a visit and we all want a dinner to welcome her. Everyone wanted to go to a restaurant that was healthy and not too expensive. I recommended Caffe Niche because I know some of our friends wants to try Niche’s new menu, also it is healthy and reasonable price. Ok, it was a disaster decision and I felt really bad for recommend Niche. Our group was seated next to this loud table that all wore suits. Out of all the dishes, my lamb dish was the only well cooked and I actually really enjoyed. Most people ordered the chicken dish and they all complaint it was tough and too salty. Two ordered Classic Breakfast Plate. It was ok but both of their poached eggs looked was solid like overdone hardboiled egg. After server disappeared after she ordered our food and never check how was our food. I think the manager was kind hover around our section because the loud table next to us. Basically they made sure the loud table was well served and ignored our table. Last thing, it was so warm inside of the restaurant that we started to sweat. After we finally got our checks, we all asked, «sooo… second dinner, anyone? And something cold, too!»

I ate here on Saturday night with my friend, and all of our food was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised when it ended up costing a little bit less than I expected to spend, too. The tuna tartare was probably my favorite of the three things we ordered. I only wish there was slightly more– even one more cracker(to make an even 6) would be easier to share between two people. I considered getting this as my main course and am happy the server recommended something else– otherwise I would’ve been left hungry. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and how it was made was delicious– but I wish I could’ve chosen how the eggs were cooked. It came with scrambled eggs on top, which wasn’t bad, but I would’ve chosen a runny, fried egg for it. My friend ordered the Endive salad, which was delicious, but more on the lighter end. Another type of protein is probably necessary if you want to order this one. When we first walked in, before we were even sat, some baby brats complained to the host that it was the worst service they had ever received and that they would not be coming back. I find people who bitch to the hosts about their service(who have nothing to do with how their dining experience actually plays out) to be extremely out of touch and inconsiderate, so I think Niche should be happy those people won’t be coming back. Our service was good and our food was given to us in a timely manner. I’ll definitely be going back.

Solid place to eat with quality food. If it weren’t for a mixup in who our server was along with the consequent delay, I’d be bragging about this place to my friends. Nice outdoor patio which is great for brunch.

This place was so lovely and the food was wonderful! My mom and I came here for lunch one day since we had read good reviews on the food here. Since we came a little later, the place was totally empty. I don’t ever mind empty restaurants. I know some might be deterred by this since it might mean the food is not great, but it was a weekday and it was late in the afternoon, so I chalked it up to the timing. We started with the shaved brussel sprouts which were delicious! I love brussel sprouts. They’re probably one of my favorite vegetables ever. The shaved aspect was a little unfamiliar to me, but not so much that I wouldn’t have eaten them. I ordered the beet and goat cheese salad with salmon and my mom ordered salmon and some vegetables on the side. The salmon was delicious! I thought the beets were a little overwhelming so I didn’t eat them all, but the goat cheese was quite delicious and the portion was large. My mom let me sample her vegetables and they were seasoned perfectly. Really delicious. Service was friendly and our server seemed really passionate about the food here. Would definitely return for lunch again.

In my opinion, the Biscuits and Gravy(house made jalapeño cheddar biscuits, gravy with locally sourced sausage, and locally sourced free range scrambled eggs) are a gift from the Gods. Maybe I got caught up in the whole«locally sourced» maelstrom, but if what I tasted was real, the Gods couldn’t have been more kind… and the chefs. Great service, as always(we sat at the bar for brunch).

Great place for breakfast and brunch The pros: Good menu options for vegetarians and non vegetarians alike. Great tasting food — their cheddar jalapeño biscuits, organic wild mushroom brunch menu options as wel as their quiches are definitely must haves Fast service Nice casual ambience with a suave feel to it. The cons: Pricing on higher side Staff not exactly friendly and do not appear to offer help on menu choices, it appeared to be more of a get it done kind of approach, at least that was our experience and hence the 4 stars.

Wow, you’ll wish you live in SLC after dining here. Service is great and their entrees are really delicious and take note, they use local produce. We stayed in SLC after a wedding and checked Unilocal for recommendations for brunch in the area. Good thing we picked Café Niche, they really made our day. We ordered Steak and Eggs, Wild Organic Mushroom Scramble and Bread Pudding French Toast. Servings were just right with delectable presentations. These are part of their brunch menus. This is our first time here and we’re already a fan! Food tastes great and really is something worth going the distance.

Disappointing dinner. Café Niche used to be one of our favorites. Tonight’s dinner was quite awful. From the lousy food to the ditzy waitress, we will not be back. The elk burger(ordered medium-rare) arrived well done and had the flavor of an old cow… very dry. The accompanying garnish had a sour, sauerkraut type flavor… not my thing and it certainly didn’t help this burger. On a positive note, the bun was fresh. The special Hawaiian Ono was ok but the accompanying veg that it was placed on was quite awful. It was a mash of overlooked diced something, not a pleasant flavor. I hate to dump on what was once a favorite spot. The outdoor seats were so uncomfortable, but nothing a couple of cushions wouldn’t fix. We wanted this to be a great dinner but it let us down.

This place never disappoints and tonight was no exception. Quietly tucked into a neighborhood, Caffe Niche is always the right decision for dinner. Very subtle exterior, but the modern interior is comfortable and inviting. 5 people. 7pm. 5 – 10 minute wait. Water glasses were already filled when we sat down. The waitress, Mandi, was helpful with menu selections because it is always impossible to decide from all the intriguing options. The menu is always somewhat familiar but there’s always a few new alluring twists. I got the Featured Fish entrée: mirin soy glazed Hawaiian ono served with stir fried vegetables on top a bed of sriracha spiked butternut squash purée. Perfectly cooked and superb flavors. The purée was smooth and the sriracha was subtle but worked well with the entrée. I drooled a little describing that. Also sampled the Organic Half Chicken and the Corned Beef entrees. Both were interesting combinations of ingredients and cooked so well. The chicken was moist and tender. The corned beef was a great cut and the sides complemented the flavors well. Warning: half the chicken portion was packed up as leftovers to look forward to tomorrow. The Morgan Valley Lamb entrée was also ordered but I didn’t sample it because I’m only learning to like lamb. I haven’t had a dessert I hated here, so we went for one we could all share. It was a layered concoction of caramel, chocolate mousse, white chocolate pearls, and whipped cream served in a stemless glass. It was so indulgent but the balance was just right; the cup made its way around the table a few times and every last bit was eaten. I already can’t wait to go back.

This place is such a nice comfortable place to have brunch or lunch at. They do share the parking lot with a salon so parking is a big troublesome ESP when there is no space and you would need to find parking on the street. Many people have told me about this place how wonderful their breakfast food is, I never got a chance to try it because when I went there it was 12 pm and they changed to lunch menu. Their lunches choices are interesting. In the end I got the fish taco with mahimahi fish. It was delicious. The side salad it came with had some nuts in it and the dressing wasn’t over powering. Definitely gonna come back here to try the brunch next time.

Cubes, squares, solid colors, casual, chic, modern… all characteristics that stood out to me when I had breakfast here. It’s a small location in a run-down part of SLC. Caffe Niche has good quality ingredients, smaller portions, and I like it! It’s a great place to go for a delicious meal that will be sufficient and well-presented. It’s the type of place I take my skinny or «watching our figure» girlfriends to but probably not my endless-void-type foodies who need to eat the quantity that will feed a small family per meal – you know the eat until it hurts companions. Atmosphere is casual yet chic. It’s definitely very different from other casual breakfast places like Penny Ann’s and Park Café, where portions are huge, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see somebody in their PJ’s. Before coming here, I’d make sure to comb my hair and wear something decent(sweats don’t count), unless you don’t mind being out of place. Prices are good too. It’s not pricey at all, especially considering the fresh ingredients of the food and taste overall. I’d say prices are similar to Park Café, but with a much smaller portion, better ingredients, and less calories. Service is good too. It’s polite and courteous. You won’t get the casual servers that will sit by your seat and ask you what you’re doing the rest of the day, but you’ll get the knowledgeable servers that will break down which local farms their oranges are from and all the steps that go into their bread pudding French toast to make you appreciate the art behind each entrée. It’s really hard for me to rate this place because part of me loves binging with the foodies and casual talks with my chillaxed servers. The other part of me enjoys the etiquette and culture that Caffe Niche has, especially when I’m with my girlfriends wanting a nice light brunch to go with our monthly catch up dates. I’d say Caffe Niche is great for certain occasions but probably not for everyone.
