I came in to get fabric to do the binding on a very basic quilt I started for my baby before she was born. She’s almost a year old, so yeah, I got kind of stuck and had not finished it. I was feeling discouraged after all the problems I had with my machine, but I was determined to finish it for my daughter’s birthday.
Heather not only helped me find the fabric I wanted for the binding, she also cut it into strips for me and walked me through how to do it. She was extremely helpful and patient. For some reason I have often found the women at fabric stores to be rude and unhelpful. I’m happy to say that has never been my experience at Elaine’s.
They have a huge variety of beautiful fabrics. Very nice store.

I feel like it is always hit or miss with this store. Either they have exactly what I am looking for or they have nothing appealing at all. I do think it is the best fabric store around Salt Lake though as far as quality goes. I have been stopping by Elaine’s for years and it seems like their selection of fabric has begun to dwindle over the years. I do like their collection of fresh younger patterns and colors like Amy Butler. I only wish they had children’s fabric that was more unique and varied.

I love this store. They have THE cutest fabric for baby blankets. I found an unfinished quilt that my great grandma started and took it to Elaine’s Quilt Block to be finished. They did a beautiful job for a decent price. They mainly carry quilting fabric.

As good as it gets in Salt Lake. A nice big store with high ceilings and good light (not direct, but consistent throughout the store). Lots and lots and lots of fabric, plenty of accessories/​tools, and tons of scraps made into useful packages of fat quarters, etc.
The batiks and mod fabrics are beautiful. Whoever chooses the fabrics either has wide-​ranging taste or a real sensitivity to what other people will like. This is not one of those stores where only one kind of quilter can be happy.
Prices are middling to high, but the selection and quality is very good. I’d pay a little extra for a nice experience and advice when I need it.
The staff were helpful and didn’t make me feel stupid. I often feel like a pathetic amateur in quilt stores (I’m an enthusiastic intermediate quilter, having messed around with it for 20 years) but here I felt very welcome.
They have a quilting service, too, in case you prefer to piece the top and then let the experts take over.

Back again. This is really a homey feeling quilt shop. Its located in what looks like once was a brick house. Lots of samples and classes I would take if I lived here. Staff was great and full of advice. There is also a large selection of civil war and manly fabrics that’s great cause most shops has lots of girly things. The boys need love too. I’ll be back next year for sure.

My mom can drop a grand in here in less than an hour. I would be jealous of the fabric but a good portion of it comes my way after she’s done cutting and piecing and quilting little squares of the beautiful fabric Elaine’s sells into art.
Elaine’s has, in my expert mother’s opinion, some of the best quilt fabrics in Utah by some of the best fabric designers in the country. She admitted that when she started she bought fabrics for their pattern and didn’t understand the quality. Things have changed after 120+ quilts as she’s admitted that the quality of the fabric far outweighs other perhaps more basic requirements. The fabrics that Elaine’s carries are some of the best you can find in Salt City. Not the usual Utah homemaker florals and prints that end up getting tied with wool knots for boys on their missions to cuddle with while remembering mom and family. No, these are fabrics designed by artists and purchased by quilter artists who do amazing things with thread.
The caveat is they don’t come cheap, which explains how one woman can drop a significant amount of money in mere minutes on this fabric. The draw is that Elaine’s staff does some of the work of matching fabrics together for you. They sell large bags of fabric – fat quarters – that go together as a start to your journey into fabric art.
My only reserve is that for all the cutting-​edge fabrics the majority of the staff always seem a little put off by our family. I guess its difficult in Utah to get over a 70 year old woman, a set of teenage twins and a bi-​racial same-​sex couple wandering around their store touching their precious fabrics. They always seem to get over their horror when grandma pays her bill. Funny how money works.
