I love the grounds at this zoo, things are spaced well and people are friendly. However I think the elephant enclosure is insanely small! They look so depressed and its heat breaking. They need way more room. As expected the food is outrageously priced, a kids meal with a corn dog was $ 8 which is so stupid. Overall it was a okay day at the zoo. There are some things I wish they would change to help their animals.

While they have made some major improvements over the last 6 years, they still need a lot of work! First, the parking is a joke! Second, The only animals that seem to have a decent amount of space to run are the zebras & giraffes. All the other enclosures are really small. I have been to a lot of other zoos and they take hours to walk around and see all the animals. This one takes about an hours to see all the animals, in the summer. In the winter, you aren’t able to see a lot of the animals because it’s too cold out for them. My kids have been to this zoo and other zoos and when we are in the Salt Lake area, we ask them if they want to go to the Hogle Zoo… they say no because it’s too boring! They would rather go hiking up one of the canyons or go to Liberty Park.

Long overdue review of the zoo. I went here on Thanksgiving morning for their«Feast with the Beast». I was visiting SLC during the Holiday weekend from Sacramento and I like to sight see and saw that they were open on Thanksgiving. Too start, I was there in the morning and it was a cold day. I would say extremely cold. There was a line to get in and I would say a fair amount of guests were visiting the Zoo. What stood out to me was how EACHANDEVERYEMPLOYEE of the Zoo was extremely nice. I travel every Thanksgiving Holiday and most people who work on Thanksgiving are not always the happiest to be around or encounter — this was not the case for me at Hogle Zoo. I am so thankful that they were open on Thanksgiving day and that I got to see their Zoo during my trip. It was a great event and I hope they continue to have it, so that others may enjoy it as well.

Hit this place up on our drive across the US. Nice size, easy to finish in a day. We brought our lunches and sat at the tables and ate. Up top there is not much to see and you bake, bake, bake… I would bring an umbrella in addition to my sunscreen next time. My son absolutely loved the dinosaurs, especially the ones that squirt water. We seriously spent at least 45 minutes of him just getting wet and laughing about it. The peacock in full display was a distraction from those dinos. Haha. We aren’t local so don’t know the history, construction or how it used to be, but our one-day visit was pleasant.
