This so far is my new favorite discovery! I highly recommend this place. Genuine service, warm atmosphere, and the place has history and character. The food is delicious, not greasy, and the prices are more than reasonable. Fish and chips are the best I’ve had in SLC. I can’t wait to go back, even more so when I can sit on their patio and enjoy a churro sundae

I will try to keep this short so I don’t run away with my feelings. The atmosphere is perfect. The gal who ran the counter was very kind. And the food? Oh the food! I ordered a double cheese combo and it was everything I could have hoped for. And for less that $ 5 or $ 6! I can’t wait to come back!

I love this place! They have a huge menu and everything I have ever eaten here has been great. One of the only places that I know of where you can still get Piccadilly chips. I love the atmosphere and the people are so down to earth and outgoing. It can get kind of noisy once kids get out of school and it is the local hangout spot for them but the food is worth it.

When my boyfriend and I pulled into Hook & Ladder’s parking lot, we almost drove somewhere else, judging the restaurant by its exterior and parking lot. But our dire need for food and a place to relax forced us inside; thank goodness for that. Kyle ordered the fish and chips, and swears it’s the best he’s ever had. I’m not a fan of fried fish, but after taking a bite of his meal, I see why people are crazy about it. The batter was light, crispy and evenly coated the fish. It didn’t overpower the fish flavor or leave an oily taste in my mouth. I ordered a simple bacon cheeseburger. The bacon was thick-cut and crispy, and the burger was a good size(not too large, but bigger than I anticipated having only paid about $ 3). I was also crazy about the bun. It wasn’t mashed or cheap tasting(like most fast food varieties); it tasted like REAL bread. I’ve finally found the diner burger I’ve been looking for.

Oh my. Where to even begin? When I came here, it was later at night and I almost went somewhere else after judging this heavenly place by its exterior. I am so glad I didn’t. I am always on the lookout for awesome fish and chips and I finally have found them. The breading is crispy, light and coated perfectly. You get three pretty large pieces and fries for like $ 5, Best deal in town. The fish tasted great and I could have sworn I was somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. The fries were crispy, but not too crispy. I was thrilled with it. They also have this amazing churro sundae that tastes like nothing I’ve ever had before. They have Farrs Fresh here and it makes it better than it would be anyway. I am kicking myself for not coming sooner and almost not going because of the location/look of the place at night. It is one of my new favorites and I implore you to go if you haven’t yet.

I rarely keep it simple and 5 stars. The Fish N Chips are off the hook and any side you get is going to be top notch. Try their desserts too! I am definitely coming back here again.

Some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. I don’t even know how to describe the batter they use– perfectly crisp and golden on the outside, soft on the inside and the fish was cooked perfectly. We ordered all the fries they had to offer– regular, English chips, and cheesy tots. My favorite were the english chips followed closely by the cheesy tots. You will be full after you finish your meal but order the churro sundae. Just order it.

There were more flies in this place than on a carcass on the side of the road in summertime. I was disappointed at the number of flies inside this establishment. Flies come from maggots, maggots come from eggs, eggs come from flies. I don’t know where the heck these flies originated as there were no apparent permanent openings connecting the inside to outside. There were a couple of doors and a window but they were not propped open. Needless to say the«flyage» overshadowed the taste and possible quality, or lack their of, of the food. The fries were lukewarm and I was afraid that they were walked on by flies. Too bad as this place is close to the house and the prices were not too bad, I guess you get what you pay for and at this place it might be a fly born disease.

I Love this place! Delish, yummy fries, and the best ice cream! the service is very friendly! Feels very small town mom and pop kind of environment! Not a ton of seating so get there early and grab a seat for a yummy lunch or dinner !

First off — the place is really easy to drive by. It is really small, standing on it’s own. Interior seating is only 4 booths and a small table. We were surprised by how small and out of the way it is… BUTITISTOTALLYWORTHFINDING! I had the pastrami burger(excellent!), my wife had the«Shaun Special» and loved it, our sons had other burgers and loved them as well. They had run out of the English Fries so we couldn’t try those, but my wife says the cheesy tater tots were delicious. Warning — they also have ice cream. Lots of flavors of scooped ice cream, plus soft serve, and shakes. So don’t overdue it on the burgers and fries… Leave room!

I was in the mood for fish and chips and this hit the spot. It’s very small and was pretty crowded the day I went. I ordered my fish and chips and they were fine, certainly less expensive than other places. And they had malt vinegar which is mandatory for me! It was about 530pm in the afternoon I was there and I noticed that it there were a few flies inside the building. I guess it’s hard to control them but I’m just kind of creeped out by flies. I just moved to Salt Lake from Las Vegas, and while Vegas has many of it’s own creepy-crawlies, the dry heat in the city eliminates most of the flies and mosquitoes. Can I tell you about the time I saw a scorpion crawling on my bedroom wall? At any rate, Hook and Ladder is good for Fish and Chips. They have ice cream cones and shakes, which I didn’t try but the prices were very low.

I found this place while looking for a place that sells pastrami burgers for a competition. Now I go out of my way to go there because this place is so delicious!

Fish and chips!!! I tried their fish and English chips and dude, you gotta try the English chips. They’re thin square pieces of potato seasoned like potato wedges. I also tried their regular fries and their cheesy tater tots which were both awesome too but if I had to rank the potatoes, it would go English fries, cheesy tots, and then regular fries. My friends also ordered the churro split. Some of us thought the churro would get soggy but it was super crunchy underneath the ice cream. I would definitely recommend trying one of those!

I’m kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I’m always on the hunt for the best cheeseburger and this place nears perfection. I got the mushroom bacon burger with fries and an Oreo Shake thinking I would take it home to eat. I got in my car, took one whiff of the fries and leveled that shit in about 48 seconds. No shame. I’m a sucker for sesame buns and theirs was on point. My only regret-I didn’t notice they had English chips until after I had paid. Next time. Friendly service, price was right, stimulating interior… I’m a fan.

This was a fun place. The staff is extremely nice. Love it when they call me «dear» or «honey». Makes me feel like I’m at home! Good prices and a very cozy place. Burger was pretty good, but the banana shake was A-MAZING. Fresh slices of banana on top. If you go here, it’s a must.

Hook and Ladder serves drive-in fare, very similar to Millie’s. It’s such a bargain though, and really quite delicious! The banana shake actually had a generous amount of banana in it, A+! I couldn’t complain about the burger and fries either! This is a neighborhood gem in Glendale!

I work around the corner from here and I’ve recently tried this placed out. I had the fish and chips and it is now my go to place for fish and chips. It’s pretty good and it’s only seven bucks.
