Memory Grove Park

Fantastic! Memory Grove Park has all the ingredients for a great afternoon — water features, grassy expanse, shady spots, well-​tended trails, monuments, great views and photo ops. Park-​goers can have an equally lovely time with or without dogs.
We stopped for quite awhile to take in all the happy dogs playing frisbee and chasing balls near the entrance. They then moved over to splash in the pond, so we moved along too. The sight of all those four-​legged athletes made our day.
Lots of memory-​makers were taking graduation photos, engagement photos, and shooting family pics.
A well-​heeled group was leaving Memorial House after a party. The patio seemed a lovely place to hold an event. I wish there were a little restaurant for the general public!
We enjoyed the day immensely and wish we had budgeted our time better. Parking took longer than we had anticipated.
I only gave four stars because we didn’t venture far enough into the park to determine the availability of restrooms, concessions, or access for the disabled.

It’s starting to be the season again for Memory Grove. The winter months are a little too muddy for our furry family, but April — October, this is the place we love to spend Sundays. Whether it be strolling along the stream while we avoid unleashed dogs, or taking a easy hike a little father back under the canopy… The feeling of being in nature while in the middle of a city is ultimately sublime.

For an urban park, Memory Grove, and its accompanying trails, is amazing. Admittedly, I have spent 99.9 percent of my life in East Coast or Upper Midwest cities and not near any mountains. However, I can walk from my downtown SLC apartment and be on the trails in ten minutes. That’s incredible. Add the permission to have canines stroll the paths with you, and you have hit the jackpot.
I dare say that some SLC folks become a bit jaded and used to the accessibility of the outdoors. For this «city boy,» Memory Grive Park is unbelievable.

This place is pretty awesome. Lots of trail up the canyon and great views in places while still feeling secluded and totally outside of the city.
Enjoy a nice day via this area and bring a snack and some water. Treatcho’self!

Great park for everyone. All the dogs seem to get along and owners are polite and friendly. The park itself is taken care of and beautiful. Small paths, monuments, and creeks. Highly recommend

We have only had a chance to hike this once but it was a beautiful day. We both would love to go again, hopefully soon.

Great dog park! We live nearby and come here often. The off leash trail is great. Most owners are responsible, however, sometimes you get an a-​hole who can’t control his/​her dog off leash and it’s extremely annoying. I’m glad my dog has never gotten hurt, but I’d be lying to say we’ve never been close. The other issue is I wish they would somehow get better enforcement for cleaning up the dog poop. Most people do it but it’s the few that don’t that are ruining the place. Minus one star for those two reasons. Really it comes down to irresponsible owners, nothing against the park itself. However, this is still my favorite in the valley.

Perfect for dogs! Love going on the weekends. The few times I’ve gone on a weekday there was a security person that prevent any off leashing on the fields, which is a bummer.
But ya, the park is a great place for a dog lover especially
Its funny because one time there was a guy that was so angry at the fact there were dogs around when basically it’s a dog park. What made it funnier is that his daughter was acting like a dog too, so it was just an entertaining sight lol.

Oh how I love Memory Grove! If you get the chance to walk the trail leading to City Creek in autumn you will not be disappointed.
I like to take the dogs I walk here and they LOVE it. The off leash area is perfect for them to run around. It can be slippery in autumn after it rains and there’s leaves on the ground and the winter can be lovely to walk the trail, but watch out for ice.
I’ve had the chance to go inside the meditation temple once when it was left open by chance, but usually it’s closed.

My dog absolutely loves this park! There is water and trails everywhere! Your dog or dogs will definitely enjoy it and meeting other friendly furry friends!

This is a nice city park that I visited on a hot day. It was too hot to go to far. It does appear to be a real oasis. There are a number of different memorials in the park, many of which center on local people who served in wars.

This place is dog heaven. The park is well groomed and respected by its patrons (including the dogs). Here you will see happy dogs jumping into the creek, running around, fetching, rolling in dirt, and all the while you can sit on a the grass or a bench watching these (God’s best) creatures enjoying themselves. Adjacent to the «park» area there is a off leash dirt trail for the dogs that actually runs parallel to a paved trail for hikers and bikers. This is the best dog park I’ve ever been too, my dogs agree (nodding).

Wish the off-​leash portion was fenced in but the canyon walls provide pretty good boundaries. Our pups love a romp in the stream. For its convenience and dog friendliness, this park is great!

A lot already said for the beauty of the park and the sweet off-​leash dog trail. Therefore, here’s a couple aspects of the park perhaps uncommented on elsewhere.
1.) Be aware that lots of individuals choose to live in the park, especially further north around the creek. I’ve never had any negative run-​ins, but I wouldn’t go poking around at night either in the lesser travelled areas.
2.) Photographers love to use the park. This can be neat to watch, but can also be obnoxious if they’re monopolozing an entire area. Bottom line: it’s a public park and they’re paying nothing to use it, but earning off its natural beauty. Just because a camera is pointing somewhere, don’t think that you can’t walk through and/​or enjoy that space.

The only reason I would wish to be a politician would be to work at the Capitol Building and take my lunch breaks in this park. It is unique with a great combination of history, architecture, and nature. If you are in the downtown area and could use a come-​to-​nature moment, this is a good spot.

I come here almost everyday. I love it. People could do better at picking up after dogs but oh well. At least they bag it, I just think they should pick up the bags. The no leash area is fun but people with scary dogs should stay on leash. I have a small friendly dog and if he goes up to another dog and it bites him I can’t be responsible for my actions. Overall it’s great. I just hope they can keep the homeless from camping out.

This review is for the DOG PORTION ONLY: THE FREEDOM TRAIL. The Freedom Trail, hopefully name as dogs are allowed off-​lease and thus have «freedom,» is arguably the best dog park in Salt Lake County.
It is filled with friendly dogs and their people, has a stream on the west side of the entire trail and an open area near the top for throwing /​fetching. There are trash cans on each end and approximately in the middle.
There are essentially three main places to park, two of them fairly inconvenient. I recommend taking E Street to 9^th Avenue, then going west until it dead ends at the park. Park your vehicle and take the stairs/​ramp down (the ramps criss-​cross but end up at the start of the trail).
Beware of winter: the trail will be a sheet of icy. Bring your spikes.

A place to pays respects and think about life and death and how it affects our soldiers. Serene, beautiful and well placed. Worth visiting.

WOW! Beautiful. Went close to sunset and well lit. Beautiful stream. Just breathtaking, fresh air, well paved roads, just incredible. Where have I been???

So glad winter has finally moved on. With how quickly the seasons change, I try to make it appoint to visit Memory Grove as much as possible.
This park holds so much history, you can easily get lost in time. Who would have thought such beauty would exist right in the heart of downtown.
