I have to say. I travel and love trying new places. I have been hooked to this place! There sushi is top notch! I have not had one item that dissatisfies me! Sit at the sushi bar, jake knows sushi and appears to enjoy explaining what he knows! Give it a shot! You won’t be disappointed!

The sushi is absolutely fantastic I had a wide array of sashimi and nigiri. The Uni was a stand out. The Tako is another favorite of mine. Prescott recommend a poached egg dish form the hot side of the menu as well and that was wonderful finish to a night at the sushi bar. I can’t stress how much i love the quality of the fish here and it is beautiful cut by Sunny behind the bar. Then there is the bar program. I would be happy to come here and buy a bottle of sake, which is an option they have an excellent selection, but Scott Gardner runs one of the finest cocktail programs in the entire state. I stared with a Daiquiri made with a cane rum and and Old fashioned made with a smoke Japanese Scotch. Both coatis were well balanced and had pleasant nuisances. The drink that made the night for me though was, and I can’t remember the name of the drink, was a scotch barrel aged gin, green Chartreuse, Luxardo cocktail that was sweet and smokey. If you are looking for a grommet experience this is your place. The times are all of the highest quality. Great night!!!

I recently visited Naked Fish on a Tuesday night for the omakase(spelling ?), or chefs choices. This is the third time my girlfriend and I have done this and we are always so pleased with the delicious dishes they prepare for us. A great selection of nigiri, sashimi, vegetables and non fish items also. The mushroom purée with duck sous vide was AMAZING. The best part of this is the various things you are able to try, the absence of decision making, and the surprises that are placed in front of you. I would have rated this experience a 5 but the service was slightly off, still good, but dropped the ball on some of the food knowledge. Just not crisp and prepared. Overall I still love you naked fish. Especially your lunch special… but that could be a whole different ramen review.

First, I want to say that the sushi here is fantastic and reasonably priced. Wonderful food. I wanted to write a review more about my experience with a party of two, and why my experience tonight wasn’t great. I called this afternoon wanting to make a reservation for a table with floor seating. I had a friend here from out of town and wanted to be away from the kitchen/loud restaurant area. I was told this would be fine. When I arrived, I was told«sorry we’ve had too many large parties tonight» and they would have to put us at a regular table. This was frustrating. We were put at a «more secluded table», which happened to be next to a loud, drunk party of six. We put in our order for an appetizer and two rolls. After about twenty minutes had passed, our server came to the table and told us that«there were a couple of large parties that put in their orders, and yours were bumped to the back of the prep line.» He brought us some miso soup to apologize. Our rolls came about 15 minutes later, and were fantastic. I know there are other good sushi places in SLC, perhaps they are more accommodating to those not in large parties.

Lots of great tasting rolls. We didn’t get into sashimi and nigiri as we were with a group and rolls seemed to be the most cost effective way to do it, but I am sure it would have been just as good, if not better. Our waitress the first night was great, even though she was new to serving here. The waiter on our second trip was great as well. Even recommended a great beer that I hadn’t tried before.

This is THE place for nigiri in Salt Lake City. The restaurant is beautifully designed. Customers are able to eat at regular tables or remove their shoes and sit on the floor at the low-tables of the screen-separated dining area. My group of 5 was seated immediately at one of the low tables. The waitress was quick to offer recommendations for our meal and bring out a bowl of edamame to nibble on while we decide what to order. We ordered the Angry Poet, Shiso Swanky, Popular Playboy and Root of Innocence to start. Interesting combination of flavors and technique. The Root of Innocence was recommended but liked the least by the table; the daikon wrap texture made it difficult to eat. The Salmon Crossing hakozushi caught our eye and the presentation left us in awe; my favorite roll of the night. Several pieces of nigiri were also ordered in addition to the Chef’s Choice Nigiri 6-piece combination. The King Salmon Belly [sake harami] was beautifully presented and well prepared. The sashimi combination included scallops [hotategai], snapper [tai], yellowtail [hamachi], king salmon [sake], mackerel [saba], and one more that escapes my memory. I would recommend ordering the combo first to get a feel what you like from the nigiri menu. We also ordered the kushiyaki Chef’s Choice combo to share, which came with brussel sprouts [mekyabetsu], squid [ika], and chicken oysters [solares]. This was such a fun part of the meal and changed up the pace of sushi; I will definitely order this again! We had a fantastic meal and raved about it for days. Naked Fish is perfect for enjoying quality nigiri in a more traditional scene. I will definitely be back.

The prices were just way too high for this college student. Every«entrée «looked like an appetizer. I’m gonna have to go find a more affordable place to get my sushi. Ambiance was there, good service but this place is better suited for skinny people. Don’t go if you’re hungry. Go to Naked fish if you’re on a date(and you want to impress your lady,) and you’re too nervous to eat.

Friends and I were looking for sushi and convenient when we were in SLC this weekend and it’s pretty much how it’s described on Unilocal — trendy but casual. There’s more use of Japanese terms in the menu, which i was pretty enthralled by if I’m to be perfectly honest, however… …our waitress didn’t seem super knowledgable about the menu. I actually mentioned that I had a shellfish allergy multiple times and I ordered a roll that I was pretty sure didn’t have any. Imagine my surprise almost 90% through my roll when i realized something had a strange texture. I looked up the only ingredient I wasn’t familiar with and… well… it was octopus. Sure, you might no see octopus as shellfish, but it is a mollusk and falls under the shellfish banner. I also ordered fried mint leaves, salmon, and one of my friends tempura mushrooms. All good. The tea was pretty jasmine black tea standard, but entirely enjoyable. I’d go back during the next con, but think that rolls with shellfish should be clearly marked with a little shrimp icon or something.

When traveling out of town you never know what you are going to get, trying a local restaurant. Luckily, I stuck gold at this sushi spot in downtown Salt Lake City. The modern yet traditional décor along with the friendly staff were very welcoming and the servers are very knowledgable when asked questions about the menu. The food was no let down. Unique dishes make this place a memorable experience. The shishito is now one of my favs!

Overall very good! I went here because I did not want to wait for the lines at some of the other places in downtown, like Takashi,(I was staying at the Hilton City Center), I wanted sushi and it was starting to get late. Here’s what I liked: — atmosphere overall is very nice. Contemporary look(although they closed the sushi bar; at least being able to sit at the sushi bar, due to being crowded from a big show in town). Men’s bath reminded me of being in Japan. — food was fresh and funky! Interesting flavors for the small plates(warm bites, labeled Kushiyaki) — I ordered a chefs special and got squid, Brussels sprouts and chicken meatballs. All were delicious and the presentation was magnificent. Wonderful flavors and textures. I ordered the chefs choice on the Nigiri and got six pieces of wonderful sushi — the usual salmon, yellowtail, tuna, etc and a couple of others that I did not know. Delicious — great location, especially if you are in a hotel in downtown or attending the convention center — service from Anna(at the bar) was great Dislikes: — mostly the quantity of food. I would have preferred larger pieces on the Kushiyaki. Overall, positive experience, recommend highly

Had the chef special(15 pieces), customer service was good but food was kinda pricey so to folks out there who want cheap and good food I would recommend else where if your not willing to spend much. Do some research before u decide to go there and yeah they don’t serve ramens anymore FYI for those ramen fans out there

Naked Fish is a very modern and upscale spot that prides itself in fresh fish and great service. They do these things very well, and is extremely popular because of it. The location is just half a block from the Salt Palace and Capitol Theatre. A reservation was a must last night since this place had pretty much every table full of people. A lot of downtown traffic has been due to the Outdoor Retailer’s convention this week, which has resulted in a huge surge in menu prices. $ 68 for 15 pieces of sashimi when it was $ 35 during my last visit is a bit ridiculous. There were some other markups, but nothing as substantial as that. The rolls were good, but were simply types that are offered just about everywhere else. Quality is better than most, but nothing was mind blowing. I suppose if people are willing to pay a premium, then adjust your prices to your liking, Naked Fish. Just don’t count on a local, like myself, to support you very often.

Delicious sushi(yellowtail belly and butterfish) and rolls. Quality of the fish is excellent. Delicious hot items(especially the cod). Despite the friendly staff, the ambience kind of made me uncomfortable because it felt a little bit rigid(but not enough to prevent me from going back). This place is on the pricier side so if you have a big appetite I suggest that you have lots of dough or eat something before coming in. Glad to have found a sushi spot with fresh and tasty fish!

Had a dinner with my bf on Tuesday night. We walked in over 9 and sat at the bar. The first impression was just okay. There was not much of people(about 5 – 6 customers) and lighting was not that impressive. Our server was far from me to hear what she was saying. Her voice was very quiet and introducing about the menus kinda fast. She was standing next to my bf and I couldn’t hear anything, so I had to ask her to be close to me. She seemed not happy about that lol. Sunny is a good chef. He’s very knowledgeable and patient for the questions you ask. My bf and I enjoyed their foods a lot. Everything was so fresh and good. I really liked poki salad and fluke sushi. Price is pretty high comepared to the size but still good. Well, I would sometimes come here to have good sushi since there’s not much of sushi place here in Utah and hard to find good ones. I wish if the menu was explained by english though. Everything’s in Japanese written in English and not much of description but just ingredients. You have to ask more than 10 times to figure out the food. I woudn’t be able to compare accurately btwn Takashi and naked fish yet. The reaso. Why is, in Takashi, I had sat at the table and had rolls and seasoned fish sushi not raw fish cut sushi. But so far, the experience in takashi was slightly better, cuz I loved their ambience, the server was a little more attentive, and the price was not too high.

All I can say is «WOW» this place is the best sushi in Salt Lake City and possibly better than any experience I have had elsewhere including the famous Nobu Matsuhisa. It definitely smokes the competition locally, cough cough Takashi. I was thoroughly impressed when I tried everything on the menu under the guidance of Sunny. Not only is Sunny passionate about fish, what he does and the sustainablility. He educates you about each individual fish as it enters your mouth. The rice is warm the fish is cold, like its supposed to be. I don’t want to list out the 10+ fish I ate with Sunny at Naked Fish but I will say that you will not be disappointed in anything he serves. I recommend sitting at the bar and getting the whole experience.

I’ve been here twice now, and between both times I’ve tried a good portion of their menu, from their Playboy roll(my favorite) to their uni. First, the things I didn’t like: 1. On my initial visit the server misplaced some of my money. After I encouraged her to go look for it she found it – but she seemed a bit put off and reluctant for me to even ask. 2. On that same visit we tried the tempura prawns, the teeny tiny chicken wings(2 for 4 dollars), the rice, and the tempura peppers. All of these were forgettable and overpriced. I feel like 1⁄3 of the menu is simply there to, I don’t know, fill up a menu that is already quite small. Now, the things I did like, love, even: 1. The Playboy roll melts in your mouth. I’ve had a fair amount of tuna, even toro, but whatever type of tuna filet they put on the PB, it’s awesome. 2. The Spicy Geisha is good too, if you like the rubbery bounce of octopus. I love the contrast in texture that the cucumber gives. 3. Uni. This was my first time trying such a unique, expensive bite of food(7 dollars for a small bite), but I’m glad I did. It’s a bit like the foie gras of the sea. It’s nutty, slightly salty, and melty. I think everyone should try it at least once. 4. Their nigiri is above average, though slightly overpriced. The 6 piece chef’s choice is a good deal, and it’s nearly always a good idea to trust the chef. 5. Sunny. He’s a great chef. If you can sit at the bar and talk to him, do it! So, in all, NF has a limited menu with some hit or miss items. At the same time, I can’t imagine any tuna roll tasting much better than the Playboy, or getting uni that is any more fresh. As for the Takashi vs. NF debate, my dream dinner = start at NF for the Playboy, then hit up Takashi for Captain Peppers. Both of those are my favorite rolls so far.

Great, fresh sushi. No fried rolls like Vegas rolls. Try the Playboy roll. It’s a good substitute and very delicious. Kaki oysters were a little fishy. Overall great presentation and quality.

The pros: 1.) The small plates are fantastic. Skewers of grilled goodnes like scallops, Brussel sprouts, and tempura shrimp are delicate, flavorful, and the hit of the show. 2.) Good selection of fish you don’t find in too many sushi houses. Fluke, Urchin, and Butterfish to name a few. 3.) fresh, fresh, fresh fish. Hamachi that melts in your mouth. The cons: 1.) Limited fish selection. It isn’t a «full» sushi menu and there were not a lot of rolls to choose from. There was also no Unagi which bummed me out as it is my favorite. 2.) Price. While the fish was great, the pricing was too high. Nigiri was around $ 5-$ 6 per piece. Basic rolls were about four dollars too high. Dinner for 4 with one bottle of wine was $ 300. And we didn’t exactly pig out. 3.) Signature cocktails from the bar were not good. $ 12 drinks that taste like kerosene.(The waitress was excellent and bought the drinks back but the girls would have liked cocktails.) Naked Fish was great food. We just felt the selection was thin and the prices too fat. A light lunch would be a better option.
