Our pot stickers were undercooked. They never brought all of our food(and the food we did get was bad). They took forever to bring us out the check. I will not be back.

You can’t beat the price half off sushi!!! Egg drop not very good has a very odd yellow color. Now for sushi it’s great had Tiffany and Rock n Roll must have.

We got Sushi to go. They did a fine job. You get what you pay for and this was not very expensive. We enjoyed it. I will pick up sushi from Red Mermaid again some time.

This place is okay. Not exceptional, but not awful either. I liked that all rolls were 50% off and they were pretty good. I didn’t enjoy the rude waitress however. Asked for teriyaki chicken and ham fried rice, separate orders. She interrupted me to tell me you cannot get both. A little confused I said, «So anyone that orders the chicken cannot also get the fried rice?» She told me I could only have the steamed rice. I do think it’s weird that customers cannot order what they want even if willing to pay extra for it. I’m hoping she just didn’t fully understand the question or something. Really odd. She also wasn’t terribly nice when I ordered a tea, didn’t really like the taste of it and opted for another drink when she came to refill it.

This pace nails it and its cheap! I go all the time. I get around 6 rolls for $ 30! Quality stuff too!

The old Red Ginger Bistro used to the a great place to go for affordable, yet very tasty sushi. There have been many times that I have waited long wait times just to eat and it was worth it. That was before the health department shut it down. The Red Mermaid Bistro is now the new name of the establishment. The sushi is no longer as tasty and the fish tastes very stale. The tiger roll that I ordered had not even two drops of sauce and didn’t have any flavor. Even very simple spicy tuna didn’t taste quite right. The service was also not great even though they were not busy and standing around.

***Peanut Allergy Warning*** They don’t list what dishes could have peanuts in it and my husband ended up in the ER! I made sure to order items that I thought for sure didn’t have any peanuts in it like orange chicken, lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, beef broccoli and he still ended up in the ER. I would think these dishes would be safe, but apparently it wasn’t. When I called and complained about this, the manager said he would list the dishes with peanuts in it. This was after he denied that they cook with peanuts or use peanuts/peanut oil in their dishes. I have yet to see any type of allergy warning on their menu. This is bad business to say the least.

Fresh salad with delicious in house ginger dressing. I’m actually not a sushi fan so I usually get a bento box. Something about my food coming in compartmentalizations container is cool. The food is delicious here too. Especially the wonton soup and tempura.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but unfortunately sometimes you have to. I have been to this place a few times with okay results. I don’t expect high end sushi but it usually satisfies my sushi craving on the cheap. We came here tonight and ordered some edamame and some rolls, one being a Vegas roll. The edamame seemed old and undercooked. We ate the rest of our rolls with pretty much no problems and then jumped into the vegas, which is usually my favorite. I picked up my first piece and put it in my mouth with much anticipation. I chewed it a few times and started gagging. The texture was completely off, it was extremely salty, and the fish was hard. I had to spit it out into my napkin to keep from gagging or worse. My girlfriend tried a piece to see if I was having an off night but she had the same results. We kindly asked them to take the roll off our check, because we were unable to eat it due to it not tasting very good. Our server went to get someone, who I assume was the manager, and we had to explain it again. I’m not one to complain about food so I really hated doing this. She gave us a funny look and said ok, she walked away, fixed our check, and when she came back she told us that it was not fresh salmon, it was smoked. Well, regardless of it being fresh or smoked it was not edible, and we did not need the attitude. I do not think I will be coming back here again.

I absolutely love this sushi restaurant and would highly recommend it! Atmosphere: This restaurant is not fancy but it is clean. It is perfect for large parties and children friendly. Service: During my multiple visit here, the restaurant has always been busy with customers coming in and out. There may be a wait depending on the time and day you visit. However, the customer service has been and quick and friendly. I did not have to wait long to be seated and the food arrived promptly after being ordered. The servers speak enough english to be understood; however, they do have an accent. Food: The sushi is amazing for the price. They have $ 1 nigiri and sashimi special along with 50% off all rolls. The sashimi slices are thick and fresh. As for the nigiri and rolls, they are not over stuffed with rice. Price: The price is very affordable! I have never spent over $ 45 here for 2 people and we eat a lot!

My friend and I take people here all the time. Really cheap, pretty good service and really good food. I’m not a big fan of fish, but the inferno and Mexican rolls were great! I always try to leave a good tip here, I feel like they really under-value their sushi.

We were very happy with our sushi meal here, there were four of us and we ordered many, many rolls and the bill was under $ 50. The sushi was delicious and our waiter was nice and helpful. Looking forward to eating here again next time I visit my son.

Umm. We were in Salt Lake City for two days and ate here both days. The reviews here are off the chain because this place is GOOD! It’s fresh and cheap and the service was great. Smiling people taking your order, bringing your food quickly and refilling your drinks when you need them to. We ordered several rolls each time and none of the rolls were heavy on rice. They have a roll called Sexy Beach that’s my favorite sushi roll now of all time. If you think you can get better tasting sushi for two adults including tip for under $ 20 in SLC, go for it. But, it you want to eat delicious sushi that is filling, inexpensive and fresh, try this place. It’s worth it.

I’ll never eat here again. Sushi tasted like they threw it in a blender and then stuffed it in the roll. When we tried to explain our dissatisfaction with our waiter, he suddenly had a really hard time understanding english and explained that’s how it’s supposed to taste. Poor service, and some nasty fish. I’ll keep going to my usual favorites: Sapa, Takashi and Naked.

I have always really loved this place. On a weekend I would give it 5 stars as I love the food. However, I just had lunch on a Wednesday and I am rather disappointed. I got the Vegas and Playboy rolls and the quality was very poor. The fish didn’t look fresh at all and the shrimp look and felt as if it’d been sitting out for a while. I could see the seaweed through the rice on the playboy. I also ordered the fried wontons and the sweet and sour sauce that came with it was hardly warm, it had chunks that were in more of a jello like texture than actual sauce. Again, I’ve always had a good experience. But today they fell way short. Not sure why but I’m definitely gonna think twice before coming here for lunch again.

My favorite place for sushi. I love the soups and we frequent here often. Sometimes it takes a bit to get the food out when it is really busy but the rolls have never disappointed. The large rolls are very large and my favorite rolls are the Dragon and Jenny.

Red mermaid is the new Red ginger just a different name. The menu is the same, half off rolls and the service is still crappy. What’s with Asian restaurants and poor service? You would think we could contribute a little more then what we give. The rolls are inexpensive so come here if you want something cheap. Note– this place doesn’t compare to Takashi or Naked fish but if you’re looking for cheap eats, this is the place. The sushi is okay but the rolls that come with sauce REALLY come with a lot of sauce. I wish they wouldn’t drench their rolls in sauce so I can taste the fish more. The baked rolls(Vegas, dynamite and a few others I forgot the names of) falls apart but I don’t think it’s bc of poor rolling techniques, I think it’s bc the sushi is so WET from all the sauce. Easy on the sauce guys! Four rolls my friend and I ordered and the bill came out to 22 bucks which is fantastic. It’s right across the street fro century 16 so it’s perfect if your date wants sushi then a movie. They seem to always run out of Mochi ice cream every time I visit so no point in disappointing yourself by asking. The answer is no. Also another thing that displeased me was when my friend and I were almost done with our rolls the server immediately brought out the check without asking if we would like anything else. Poor service and okay food doesn’t make a good mix but since this place is so cheap, business will flourish. Our waters were never refilled either. I would come back here only if my friends wanted to. I wouldn’t go here on my own. I prefer Tokai and happy sumo if you’re looking for better fish and service without breaking the bank.

I frequently come here to eat sushi. I think it’s not a bad place if you want just sushi. But anything else I wouldn’t recommend. The other day I ordered a kung pao chicken. It was the worst I’ve ever had. And I love my Kung pao chicken from anywhere I’ve gone before. But I couldn’t even eat this. The vegetables where slimy and had a funny taste. The dish was cold like it sat out forever. I’m definitely not going to order anything but sushi from here again.

One of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had at any sushi places. I did not like a single roll we ordered as they were all very fishy and packed with mostly rice and mayo. I was extremely hungry coming out of a cleanse so it should have tasted like heaven being my first meal in 10 days even if it was mediocre… but it was nasty. Steer clear.

This place has 50% off sushi rolls and daily specials. Today, they offered $ 1.00 per sashimi slice and we got yellowtail. It was cut in cubes which I’m not used to but it also wasn’t bad. From the pictures I posted, I really enjoyed all of the sushi rolls especially the endo roll for the crunchy texture and soy wrapping inside. The miso soup isn’t good at all so don’t try it. With each roll, it lacked a little flavor do I asked for thin lemon slices to eat with each piece. Affordable and not so bad for dinner. I Still like simply sushi better, but I like sushi buffets

Very solid, and still has excellent value. On a weeknight it was surprisingly busy! Good for you guys. I got some nigiri and hand rolls, then the DTH… I should’ve ordered vegas. It was overcooked and too light on the avocado. Not a super big deal, I’ve never had a problem like that with any of my rolls here or at Yi.

So the Red Ginger Bistro is now the Red Mermaid Bistro. I’m not sure why that all happened but all you need to know is that the food is pretty much the same and as cheap and delicious as ever. My wife and I came up from LA to get some of our favorite cheap sushi and we walked away from the place having spent 25.00 and happier than a unicorn in a pile of glitter. If you loved the Red Ginger Bistro, you’ll love this… because it’s the same place. Same rolls. Same prices. It’s still great.
