Salt Lake Temple

This is a place, regardless of your religion, that you should check out if you’re visiting Salt Lake.
The grounds are right in the heart of downtown and are very well taken care of and unlike anything you’ve probably seen before. If you’re not LDS you’re not able to go into the Temple itself, but you can see a cross section in a part of the visitors center that shows you what the interior looks like. I personally cannot attest to it’s accuracy, as I’m not LDS, but according to friends that have been inside, it’s pretty spot on.
The visitors center is full of history of how the Temple was built (pretty interesting) and a lot of information on the Church itself. There are Missionaries on the grounds that will tell you anything you could possibly want to know and can direct you to the proper area on the grounds for anything specific you’re looking for.
Like I said, this is a landmark in Salt Lake and is a great example of the culture of the State and if you’re in the area and have time to kill, this is the best option for your time.

OK, before you get your panties in a bunch about the Mormon faith you might want to pay the center of Salt Lake City a visit. This is a serious temple built to God, no doubt in my top in the world of all religions, perhaps even top 5. It’s immense, but first take your imagination on an aerial adventure; imagine that you are a bird flying over this very good size city, now below you is a truly unique maze of city streets all surround and leading into and one little mecca at the center of the queen bee’s hive and this little bullseye is the Mormon Temple. It is quite magnificent. I have mad respect for what I see here. As far as going into the temple, no I have not been in there because I am not Mormon, but I respect them that much more for having stricht rules. I mean after all, was everyone allowed to enter the temple or the holy of holies in the bible? Do we complain about that? No, we don’t. Besides some things are best left to my igination, perhaps while I rest my back against one these trees on the temple grounds and take a little nap. It’s a peaceful city.

They offer free tours at certain hours conducted by the sisters. Temple Square is surrounded by missionaries from different countries.
Temple Square grounds is beautiful. Buildings exterior are very nice and well maintained. Unfortunately, only Mormons can enter the temple. Although, I could imagine it to be extremely magnificent.
Temple Square is a must see but don’t get too excited about the temple, like I said, it’s only available to Mormons. In addition, wear appropriate clothes as a sign of respect.

I’ve loved every time I’ve gone here. I haven’t gone inside for a while, but the grounds are magnificent. Mormons and non-​Mormons alike always have a great experience learning about the history of how Salt Lake came to be from the missionaries who work at the temple!

These temples are paid for from the required tithes (10% of gross income) of the poorest of church members. I have a friend who used to work as a purchasing agent, she said she bought $ 250,000.00 chandeliers, spent millions for paintings and other accoutrements, and was let go when she asked why some of this money shouldn’t be used to help feed hungry people, aid in healthcare, or help employ people.
I was once a mormon, was endowed and sealed in a temple, have been in this temple, as well as others, and will attest that these buildings are monuments to the tax-​free wealth and power of a cult.

I’ve visited this temple a few times in my life. It is extremely beautiful on both the exterior and interior. It took 40 years to build and was finished in 1893. The temple grounds are clean with beautiful landscaping. Inside it is quiet and peaceful. I enjoy my time there.

Really impressive architecture. Worth checking out. There are so many picturesque view points. Good place to walk around and think. Good view at day and at night. Go to the top floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial building to get an even cooler view.

If you have not had the chance to visit the temple, this is a must see. Regardless if you are LDS or not, this is an amazing place full of positive energy and tremendous history. If you have the time, attend the Sunday service with the Choir. This is something really special indeed. Also, dint worry about being pressured or stalked by the missionaries, they are just there to give directions and show you around. Make sure to visit the ancestry center as well, and learn more about your family history.

First time to Salt Lake so we had to check out the temple. I gotta say, the whole temple and surrounding area are stunning. I was really surprised at how nice and helpful people are as well. Especially since we were a group of dirty bikers who had been riding all day long. One old couple sitting in the park gave us a great tip on a place to get the best photo of the temple. Loved our visit. Would love to come back when I have more time to explore.

The salt lake temple is so majestic and beautiful. The history behind the saints who built it is one of hope and faith. Grounds are wonderfully kept and extremely welcoming.

Beautiful Salt Lake Temple! My parents were married here for time and all eternity. It is a very sacred and special place. Everyone is invited to walk around the temple grounds, called Temple Square. There are a lot of neat things to see.

Fantastic place! We were married here in 1996. Always love to go back and visit. The grounds are spectacular, and the whole Temple Square has a peaceful atmosphere.

Beautifully built temple. Definitely worth visiting when in the Salt Lake City area. Not everyone is allowed to enter the temple. At one of the visitor centers located in Temple Square, they have an awesome small scale model replica of the Salt Lake Temple. It shows in fabulous detail, what is inside this beautiful piece of work.
You do not have to be a Mormon to appreciate and respect the Salt Lake Temple.

I am respectful of religions just not a devotee. When I was in college, I visited Vatican City and thought, whoa, there is a whole lot of money in the Catholic church, the faith in which I was raised. I had the same reaction seeing this Temple, wow the Mormon Church has boatloads of money. Also, having seen the musical The Book of Mormon, I felt like I was surrounded by the cast. Our flight was late in the day, we had had a magnificent lunch so we wandered over here. I wouldn’t make a special trip but if you are in SLC, stop by and see it for yourself. It is something else.

Being an atheist and a pervert, I’m not really worthy of entering the temple. Yet, it’s so beautiful to look at. Something cool to look at once in your life… would I come back? Nope.
That’s why the Salt Lake Temple is just A-​OK.

Beautiful Temple with an interesting history. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Stunning at night. Christmas lights surround the square, and water is still and reflections of the temple light up the dark water… It is truly beautiful!

If you are interested in religions or American history or just curious, check it out. The missionaries are open and honest. And I found myself learning how naïve I am about LDS and how some of the basics of their faith are so close to mine.
And for the architecture admirers this place does NoT disappoint!

I came to the Temple on a summer Saturday afternoon to sit by the reflecting pool and watch newlyweds emerge. It was fun to share in their joy and be in a place that’s so beautiful and calming. Get a Mormon friend to explain the role of temples and why this one is so special to their faith. If you don’t have a Mormon friend, you will have no problem finding one in Temple Square — enthusiastic missionaries are thick on the ground.

My first time in Utah and I did not have enough time to go visit and look around the inside. I went the night before and it looks like a castle. Surrounded by concrete walls and gates. Next time when I go back to Utah i’m definitely going to spend mucho time there. Beautiful historic landmark.
