My teenboy kid and I have been seeing Dr. Canfield for about two years, and I think he’s everything you could want in a dentist except«fancy». He’s got a nondescript suite of offices in a hard-to-get-to part of Holladay(they’re moving any day now, though to someplace very near where they are), and his team consists of him, his hygienist and his office manager. He’s fast, efficient and dentally conservative. Teenboy kid and I are both in and out for our 6-month checkups in 30 minutes. No waiting, no muss, no fuss. Dr. Canfield will be the one to clean your teeth, with his hygienist there to suck your spit. HE will be the one to stick the X-ray blanks in your mouth, and HE will be the one to flip the switch. HE will be the one to tell your kid that, for the most part he’s doing a good job of taking care of his teeth, but he probably ought to pay a little bit more attention to his molars. Dr. Canfield will also be the one to tell you that your previous dentist in another state did a GREAT job on the crowns you got a couple of years back, and that’s probably why he told you you needed one or two more, when, in reality, your fillings are holding up just fine, and it’ll be fine to just keep an eye on them. The waiting room is not fancy, the exam rooms are not spa-like, the décor is not contemporary. There are no paraffin baths or goggle movies or herbal teas. But Dr. Canfield knows his stuff and he won’t try to talk you into crap you don’t need(he does provide other, fancier services, like bleaching; the friend who referred me uses these extras), and his support staff is helpful and professional, and his fees are reasonable. I don’t need or want anything more in a dentist. If you don’t, either, you can’t go wrong with calling Dr. Canfield.
