Easily the best sushi in Salt Lake. I’m a big sushi fan and I’ve been to every sushi place in town. This is the best, in my opinion.

Still enjoying to go to Takashi. The service could be better. I loved the curry clams. It’s like thai curry with vermicelli and clams. It was soo good. And I forgot the name but the salmon appetizer was reeeally good as well. Their makis are so good. Yum Spicy tako– you actually taste sea weed salad a lot and not much of tako. But Strawberry fields was 3.5 stars. We had better taste at the previous experience. Service was soso. Our server was nice but it could be better. It was busy night and I understand. But he finally came bringing two ice water we didn’t ask for. He just assumed we would order water since it took long to say hi after we got a table. I was going to ask something else. lol we had to ask for the same thing a few times. At the end, we got the bill before our last meal come out and we noticed him about that when he was about to take our plates and chopsticks away.

I have had lots of sushi all around the world. This place is by far the best in North America. Yes… even NYC and LA would have a hard time coming close. Rock on!

Consistently my favorite sushi place here in Salt Lake City. They are really accommodating here and will change anything that a customer wants in the roll or taken off the roll which is really nice because that makes life harder for the for the chefs. They really care about the customer satisfaction here and it really shows. The quality of the sushi is great my favorites are the spider roll, the torched sablefish Nigiri and the albacore tuna Nigiri. They have 1 million other amazing options so almost anything you get will be good. I can’t wait to come back. Also, a good tip is to sit at the sushi bar.

This is our favorite sushi restaurant in Salt Lake City! The atmosphere is great, very trendy and nice. It is a little crowded, but the food is so good, you don’t care. Every roll is amazing, and I think I have had every one of them. They are pretty quick to get it out as well. My favorite rolls are probably the sunshine and the ceviche, although picking just a few is like picking a favorite child. ;) You cannot go wrong. The prices are pretty comparable for nice sushi restaurants. A MUSTGO!

Always a great meal. You definitely have to plan early when you go because it’s busy every night for dinner. I recommend going before 5:30pm, but if you have a party of 6 or more you can make a reservation. Probably the best unagi(eel) I’ve tasted… Ever! I usually just order the nigiri for dinner, but all the other dishes I’ve tasted so far have been excellent. The mussel shooters are the best I’ve had and I love going here for lunch. The combinations plates are a killer deal!

This is a small yet sophisticated sushi bar and restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and the service is as expected for a mid level sushi joint. They were fast with my order. The food was pretty great. I enjoyed a tiger roll and a spider roll. Both had great presentation and were delicious. I would recommend this as a higher end lunch spot or a nice place to get sushi if you are downtown in the evening.

Often when you read the glowing reviews of a new restaurant, the hype does not match the experience… that is not the case for Takashi. The food and the service exceeded my expectations and I would gladly go back! My only complaint is we arrived 5 minutes before they opened and despite the temperature below freezing, were left to stand outside. The hostess just stood there looking at us. The space for those waiting for a seat is also not very big, which leaves the restaurant feeling overcrowded — a true sign of how good this place is, but noisy and loud and distracting from the intimate design of the space. I will be back, but will 1) make a reservation and 2) try to go right at opening(5:30pm on weekdays) or much later in the evening.

For all the hype this place has, I really think it’s nothing special or ordinary for a Japanese restaurant in general. For Utah, it’s pretty good but the price is still a little too pricy for the quality. I usually eat a few nigiri’s when i go over there, but one thing i was dissapointed with was the portion ratio for fish to rice(fish:rice). I believe that is really important when it comes to sushi, and most sushi places in utah gets it wrong(meaning they always put too much rice) The Fish at Takashi is fresh and is good, but please make the ratio better because that ruins the whole sushi if there is too much rice. It needs to be just right and just perfect and that is what makes a good sushi chef. Their nigiri grip when they grab the rice.

Strawberry Fields, yellow submarine, little mermaid, ceviche, and snow storm special. Again yellow sub and ceviche is the best.

The best sushi. Period. Always get a couple rolls off the specials on the chalkboard. The cocktails are adventurous and delicious. Last time I was here I asked one of the bartenders if he had any suggestions. He first asked me what I like to drink and when I said whiskey, he suggested the Tokyo Manhattan. It’s my new favorite cocktail in town, a little sweet with a five spice kick. Jonny(the bartender with the epic beard) makes a perfectly. Style points for walking it over to me before pouring it into the coupe glass: no sticky glass. But let’s be clear, the fish is the reason you come here. It is the best. Not just in SLC, but that I’ve ever had in my life. And the Toro: it’s so fresh, it’s like a trip to the beach. Seriously like your mouth is going for a swim in the ocean. Trust me. *chopstick drop

The best sushi in SLC and the best I’ve had anywhere. Torched sablefish just melts in your mouth. Besides that my favorites include every item on the menu but my go-tos include: Ceviche, Black magic woman, yellow submarine and strawberry fields for dessert! I’ve been here 4 times since moving here 7 months ago. It’s worth the wait(no reservations) and the cash. Service has been great at each visit. Delicious cocktails and nice wine and sake selections too. Loved the sushi bar as well. Can’t go wrong at Takashi!

First time I tried to come in last Wednesday, there was a wait of 45 mins for 2, we went to wait at the bar where you can order drinks and apps but no sushi and the bartender was extremely rude, so we left. This week I went back and again, the service was a bit strange but the reviews were too good to stop us. Again, 45 minute wait for 2 at 7pm on a Wednesday. Cool ambiance. Solid food. We started with pork ribs and edamame at the bar. The ribs were tender and flavorful. They were a little smoky which isn’t my favorite but they were very good. Edamame, standard. The calamari next to us looked amazing and moans of happiness were heard from those neighbors, so I’d try those in the future. Then we were seated and got to experience the sushi, which yes, was quite special here. I got one of the riceless rolls with tuna and spicy crab– yum! And I got a special with salmon and mango, also YUM! Both had tiny jalapeño slivers on top that were EXTREMELYSPICY. Was awesome. My colleague got a crunchy roll(some form of shrimp tempura) that was great and a soft shell crab roll that was good too though the ends of the soft shell crab weren’t either of our favorites. Minus one star for the strange service here, all staff seem to have had attitudes bit visits and were not very friendly, which really didn’t make me want to return. Also, I’m being generous by not taking away another star for the fact that they don’t serve sushi at the bar and can’t transfer your bill from the bar to the table so you have to close out twice AND the fact that they have no website or easy access menu with descriptions to order takeout. DUH! Hello business traveler revenue. Alas, it is time we Unilocalers take matters into our own hands and post the updated menu here. Cheers, foodies!

Everyone who’s anyone knows about Takashi… if you live in Salt Lake City… or you’re a huge Naruto fan. The freshest seafood that you can get in «the Salty Lake»(that I know of), Takashi is located in the heart of Downtown. If you make it into Takashi, don’t be afraid of those scary dollar signs($$$$), because that’s just a number that you can divvy up between you and your party(assuming that you’re here with other folks to celebrate something unless you’re a loner, or just that kind of baller that goes out alone and shells it out). As for things to try, you really cannot go wrong with their ‘specialty’ sushi, as well as a glass of wine, and good ol’ sashimi. If you’re looking for specifics, try the Albacore Nigir, Toro Tartare with Truffle Oil, and the other selections i previously mentioned. Be wary though — even though I joked about divvying up the check, the price tag IS hefty for those who do not make that much or are watching their budget. Thus, sticking to my rule of — celebrations and special events. Unless you’re rich — then come in and eat.

I’m so relieved that this place exists. Their nigiri is solid! Also we sat at the sushi bar and the service was excellent! Yes there was a long wait but that’s what the booze bar is for… and plus you can grab appetizers while you wait! Appetizers: Gyoza — 4 stars(that dough was stuffed with filling) Pork belly — 3 stars(slightly overcooked, good flavors) Entrée: Sashimi plate — 3 stars(good fish but I’m more of a sushi gal) Albacore nigiri — 5 stars Amaebi(sweet shrimp) — 5 stars(comes with shrimp head, yum!) Uni — 5 stars Toro tartare with truffle oil — 5 stars The sushi chef at the bar was super cool. Had a good time, can’t wait to go back!

It’s time to repent. It’s time to change. Will you forgive me, Takashi? I gave you four stars because I didn’t like your Azekura or your maki toro roll, but at the same time I now unabashedly declare you my favorite Utah restaurant. Your torched sablefish can’t be any better. Your sunshine and captain pepper rolls can’t be more delicious. Soki soba? Amazing. Pork belly? Why eat it any other way? Your service? Fantastic. Last night my sister, who’s never tried sushi before, was putting on her bravest face and trying to put mind over matter. She thought it would help if she used a fork instead of chopsticks – I think she wanted to cut some of the pieces in half, take smaller bites at first, etc. So she asked for one. And who gave it to her? None other than Takashi himself, who was nothing but a gentleman. So I repent, Takashi. You’re worth 10 stars in my book. And you always have been.

First off, when I walk in I did not see any Japanese chefs which scared me! But then I remembered I was in Utah. This may be good sushi for Utah, but this wasn’t so great for me. FOOD Yellow submarine(3 stars) Strawberry fields(3 stars) The box(4 stars): Best one out of the rolls we had. Tuna(3.5 stars) Sablefish cooked filet(4 stars): Cooked well. Sablefish seared(4 stars): Melts in your mouth, cooked really well. Black bean gelato(4 stars): Refreshing! SERVICE Free birthday dessert! That was really nice of them! Their service was great. ATMOSPHERE Cool décor. They get really busy, so make a reservation! PARKING Street parking.

From the time you walk up to Takashi you are welcomed. I started the journey with an appetizer of grilled asparagus and an order of the pork ribs. The ribs had a charred and smokey grill flavor which is exactly what I was looking for. Along with this great flavor they were«fall off the bone» ribs. Honestly, some of the best ribs I’ve had. Now to the main event… sushi. If you sit at the bar(to the far right) you actually get Taskashi himself as your«sushi master». Watching him work was like watching the sun rise. As he masterfully hand cut each piece of sushi it could only build ones anticipation. I started with the Toro(fatty Tuna). It literally melted in my mouth. It had the perfect texture and taste. Highly recommend everyone, yes including you, try it. I then journeyed through some of Takashi’s pick. I have no idea what it was I just know it was delicious. If you are in SLC this is a must stop.
