This was a cool spot, but I think the Trolley Square location closed… You can find their prints at Signed & Numbered.

The Hive is where creative people hang out. They have it all, music, poetry, and art! Love it!

I really don’t know where to begin. Part gallery, part boutique, part community organizer, part coffee shop; The Hive Gallery is a place where ideas, arts, disciplines, colors, and most importantly people, come together. It’s a breeding ground for artistic innovation. This is a real life hub to create the Medici Effect, or Steven Johnson’s Liquid Network. Their focus is to celebrate art in any form. Photography, fashion, jewelry, skateboards. They are constantly involved in bringing together creative people, regardless of their particular discipline or background, for the simple joy of creating and seeing what will happen when different styles are fused. Now, all this might sound pretty heady and you may think I’m starting to get a little precious, but the results are probably most often described as «cool» «funky» or «awesome.» So how does that mission translate onto the small square footage in Trolley Square? Well, you won’t find a standard art gallery here. There are photos, there are paintings. But there are also clothes, magnets, necklaces, and spiral bound books. The Hive Gallery’s Hive Boutique offers unique, often one-of-a-kind gifts made by local artists. According to the sign in the space, they will soon open The Hive Café and you’ll be able to enjoy tea, coffee, mate and pastries while you enjoy the gallery. Not a bad way to spend some time. They also have frequent featured shows to highlight different local artists. In the past, they’ve covered things from cake decorating to a design contest for skateboard decks. The creativity also spills out from the gallery. They’ve helped produce fashion shows from local designers and are involved in supporting community events. Their goal is ambitious but the promise is spectacular. So far they’ve been able to accomplish some pretty cool things and will hopefully be able to continue, even grow, and mash up the creativity in SLC. This part of their vision statement says it best: «We believe that together we can take the ordinary and make it extraordinary.»
