This placed came up on Unilocal while my boyfriend and I were wondering around looking for a bite to eat. There is very little information on this profile but decided to give it a try due to the reviews. One thing this profile is lacking, is hours. We showed up at 3:10PM and saw some cars in the parking lot as well as a massive OPEN banner hanging on the front porch. When we walked in there was a massive display case we walked around, we noticed a group sitting at a large table towards the back. We weren’t sure if they were customers dinning or employees. I smiled, said hello and asked if they were open. The entire table just starred at us without a word. After about 30 seconds of the death stare. I took a few steps back to hide behind that tall standing display case to quietly tell my boyfriend that I was really uncomfortable and wanted to leave promptly. At this time a women had removed herself from the table, walked towards the front and proceeded to tell me that they closed at three but I was ‘welcome to walk around.’ She was followed by a second woman who immediately, in a very demanding voice asked what had been said to us. I have never felt more uncomfortable and unwelcome in my life. I certainly won’t be coming back.

Such a laid back cool place off I26! When you go in don’t discouraged if no one is there to greet you. she will come out in a few minutes and then treat you like family! We got the specials, chili Mac and chili w rice and beans and it came out super fast. There is a limited menu, but we will be back again soon. There is a thrift store on the second floor, as well as local made pottery and carvings on the first floor. Such a wonderful spot and we won’t forget the great hospitality we received.

The crust and kettle was a quaint find off I-26 on the way to asheville. The food was delicious and the service was homey. I had a fantastic chicken salad sandwich with a cup of soup and a side of the best potato salad I’ve had from a restaurant. Everything here tasted and felt homemade with love and care. If you like roadside diners that remind you of grandma’s noms then stop here.

Great food and great service. Right off the hwy and across from a gas station if your just passing through. Reuben sandwich was simply amazing! Excellent value. Local art on the walls was nice to see as well. I’d come back for sure!!!
