Great place for breakfast. I’ve ordered many different things from the menu and enjoyed it every time. The staff is lovely and it has a nice open sunlit space. The pastry and premade lunch counter is excellent.

Awesome place for breakfast. Super nice waitstaff. Asked them to burn my onions in my omlette, and it was perfect. Coffee is above average. Very nice takeout area so you can buy your lunch to go as well. Wished ee lived closer. See you next year.

What can I really add here. If you know the owners and/or have terrible taste you probably 5-star love this place. Everyone else thinks the 3 star food drops to a 1 because of the service. I can’t really think of a name which could be more appropriate/inappropriate than Comforts so good job on that.

Been meaning to go to this place for a while now… finally went and didn’t have to wait long but everyone is rude. The food looks delicious but the ordering system is complicated and the staff is not very nice. I ordered 3 sandwiches and 2 were wrong. I paid for things that I didn’t get(dessert). The girl at the register didn’t pay attention to anything I said the first time. I felt like there was a language barrier as well. I live 15 minutes away so the price in gas would be more than what I lost on dessert.

One of Marin’s most reliable cafes/take out places. Good food but HUGE lines on the weekend. The searing area is pretty cramped and a bit awkward. Some of the counter workers could be friendlier, but most of them are great. *The Chinese chicken salad and okasan are definitely must haves*

Filling, flavorful Chinese chicken salad. Enjoyed the combination of chopped cabbage, green onions, slivered almonds, chicken, sesame seeds, noodles, it’s toothsome and hearty. Not what’s expected of a ‘salad’. Skipped dessert, but pastries looked tempting. Great place for a bite to eat.

I love the food at Comforts especially the Chinese chicken salad but this place has room for opportunity. 1)The packaging of the to go Chinese chicken salad sucks. It’s in a carton w all the protein on top and lettuce on the bottom. It’s hard for those of us who are on the go and don’t always have access to a salad spinner or plate. They could place the salad in larger packaging quite easily to make it more toss-able. 2) I seriously have a personal issue w companies that request their customers spend a minimum if they’re going to use a bank card. I know they get charged something like 50 cents for each slide but I feel like they can deal w the SMALL loss to gain a sale and add convenience to their customers(because let’s be real who carries a ton of cash on them anymore?). If it’s that big a deal then why don’t they adjust their prices to reflect that charge or just switch pos systems? It’s not hard. Staff is always rude if I’m like at $ 8 or $ 9 when they request a $ 10 min. Suck it up.

I was there today celebrating my daughters 2ndBIRTHDAY… I was having a salad and my daughter had plain pasta. I asked to get her pasta to go and got a box. As I put the pasta into the container I noticed a hair. I asked my girlfriend who also had her son there to check as well. She confirmed it was a hair. We then told the host we found a hair and he proceeded to look at it, stare at it for a bit and then went to the back. We could see him staring at it more and noticed our server didn’t even care to talk to him about what just happened. He returned with a new bill without my daughters pasta. Our server Cathy never once came up to us to apologize or a manager for what just happened. Shocked that no one seemed to care especially since this is my young child eating food in their establishment. Since I thought that was rude, I wrote a letter to the owner and she was quite rude herself with her response. She said it was not a hair and then it was a piece of clothing and she corrected me on who I spoke to. Really? First off, you never doubt the customer. Secondly, since you own this place I would think you would want to make sure this never happened again and make sure your place is clean. I was shocked with her response back. She was just trying to hide the situation. If they were so sure it was clothing she wouldn’t have ignored the situation since she said she was aware of it when it happened. I will never go back just because of the way they handled this situation.

They’re famous. Chinese chicken salad famous. The fame is well deserved as it’s absolutely the best CCS you’ll ever have. However, they’re other food is great too. It’s nicer to sit outside than inside but it’s your typical café table setup — not super comfortable but practical. It’s a great place for lunch.

The absolute freshest and tastiest take out food in all of Marin county. From their Chinese chicken salad to the wild caught teriyaki salmon and the excellent Shrimp cucumber salad. Great fresh baked breads, scones and desserts. I wish we had them in Mill Valley.

My earlier post met the character limit. Here us the conclusion: 5. We were charged for staff. But were not provided a list of what they were doing during the hours we were paying them? REDFLAG: the bar was unattended for most of the night. We have pictures of their staff using our photo booth. At our final meeting with the owners, to try and negotiate with them, I was told we were bickering about this. They feel they’ve done enough for us, in regards of changing the bill. At that point we told them to charge the card, and walked out feeling unheard and that our best interests played no part in this experience. Saddened that I was treated this way by a company I’ve gone to my entire life and was proud to serve their food at my wedding. Experience ruined

Love their Chinese chicken salad and their teriyaki chicken tender specialty. A bit pricey and parking is hard to find around lunch time. I do appreciate that they never run out of their salad. As a drug rep, I’ve had numerous Marin doctors offices suggest Comforts salads for their lunches. Staff here are always friendly and cashiers will help me take my catering to my car.

Such a great spot to stop by for really yummy food! There is a great fresh deli counter with salads and an incredible fresh pastry section. Cookies, macaroons, breads, cupcakes, mini cupcakes — you can see where I spent most of my time! I had the Chinese chicken salad which is boxed and ready for takeout or to eat-in & the dressing is so delicious and popular, they’ve bottled it up for you to take home! And speaking of bottles, all sorts of dressings and sauces adorn the shelves along with fun knickknacks and small gift items. Small tables to sit at inside and friendly staff to help you out! There are also cold drinks for purchase and a free water station. Can’t wait to go back, but I have some pastries to tide me over until then!

This review is for Comforts catering, not the café itself. My wedding was this past September in San Rafael. My(now) husband and I found ourselves completely stumped when our dream wedding-food caterer ended up quoting us way over our food budget. Feeling somewhat defeated, we searched and searched for a new catering option on our $ 6,000 food budget and were hopeful we would get the look and quality of food we wanted. We found Comforts while just Google-ing one afternoon and I immediately reached out to their catering department. With a quick response, pricing information and some back-and-fourth discussion about what we wanted exactly(family-style dining, local and preferably organic when possible), we set up a meeting with Katie, Comforts catering coordinator. Katie was an absolute gem when we met at their café to create our ideal menu so that she could work up some numbers and give us a total quote/estimate. Katie gave us a few samples of food(YUM!) and 100% understood our vision and direction we wanted to take our food. About 4 days later, Katie had a quote put together for us. Before that email, I was nervous that Comforts quote would come near the $ 10,000 quote we had gotten from our dream-caterer just two weeks prior. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that Katie had cut that quote more than in-half with even more food options! With that, we decided that Comforts would be our wedding caterer and signed a contract. Over the next 8 months we adjusted numbers and some hors d’oeuvres options with Katie and she kept in contact extremely well, responding to my emails within hours, even minutes! About two months before our wedding, Rachel took over our account with Comforts and was our contact from there on out. A month before our wedding, Rachel met with me, our wedding coordinator, venue coordinator and rental coordinator(and my father) to walk the premises and know exactly what Comforts staff would be doing on that day. As a former pastry chef, our wedding food was VERY important to me and I was praying that Comforts would provide unique, flavorful and beautiful food to our guests… My first look at our wedding food was at dinner, when our food was brought to our table. I was AMAZED. It was 1) beautiful, 2) WARM!(usually wedding food sucks), 3) so delicious and 4) served the exact way I wanted. Both Rachel and Katie understood my vision and our desire for family-style dining. At our wedding, I noticed Rachel serving our head table and being hands-on with the servers and chefs… she(pardon-my-French) busted her a$$. I have so much respect for Rachel and how she took her job seriously, but also took the time to chat with me, give me a hug and even set aside leftovers for my husband and I to take back to the hotel with us after our long day. Comforts is amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better caterer for our wedding. In the end, Comforts was my dream wedding caterer and I feel so honored to have served them to our guests. Comforts, we love you! Our guests loved you, raved about your food and service! Our photographer commented that your food photographed beautifully and was her favorite catering she had ever been served! Thank you for making our wedding-food dreams come true.

Nice atmosphere — casual deli with a café twist. You take a number and then are served at the counter for deli needs. For café side, it appears there are waiters. The service was fast and the food was good. We ordered from the deli counter, a bow-tie pasta salad and an heirloom tomato salad. The pasta salad could have used a little more seasoning(garlic) but that’s just a personal taste. Atmosphere was a 4, price was a 4.5(affordable, $ 7.60 for a half pint and a quarter point of the salads), service was a 4, and food was a 3(but could just be what we ordered). Overall, I’d go back and likely will soon to try more of the eats. The Chinese Chicken Salad is meant to be incredibly popular.

Frankly, I had a hard time writing this review. Lunch was actually delightful although marred by the lackluster service from this one server. I also felt that Comfort’s well-hyped Chinese Chicken Salad($ 9.95/$ 12.95) that has now become a household name in Marin County, fell short. The dressing for the Salad was not to be sniffed at… no, no! But it wasn’t to die for either. It tasted generic and wasn’t mind blowing. The menu says the dressing was made from rice vinaigrette. Would that suffice to make this salad«Chinese»? As far as I know, Chinese do not have a salad per se using raw veggies. Also how about throwing in some fried wonton skins, mandarin orange segments(when available) or some water chestnuts to make it more«Chinese»? I dunno cause I have always wondered what really makes this salad«Chinese». I also wondered if Comforts were skimping on the ingredients given a small salad was priced at $ 9.95. I have to admit though that toasted almonds and fried rice noodles did add some needed crunch.(3⁄5) There were 4 of us and we decided to do family style. Chicken Okasan($ 12.95) sounded interesting and enticing. It added a hint of Japanese as okasan means mom in Japanese. Ever heard of chicken katsu? The Japanese version is panko breaded deep fried chicken cutlets and served with tonkatsu sauce(Japanese BBQ sauce). In Comforts, they were glazed with teriyaki sauce. It wasn’t overly sweet which I thought was a big plus but it was a tad too salty that might be problematic for those on a low sodium diet. Nonetheless, it did have a good flavor and the ginger scented jasmine rice was a great accompaniment. The sautéed veggies I thought were excellent in providing a well balanced meal.(4⁄5) Soba Noodle and Veggie Bowl($ 14.50) was a clear winner. Who says you can’t have a meal that is both delicious and healthy? This Japanese inspired dish came loaded with plenty of goodies that exuded rich umami flavors and textural contrast such as grilled Japanese eggplant(Hmm…), roasted kabocha(squash), carrots, arugula and toasted nori in a miso sesame vinaigrette. It was ok to slurp the soba if you wish to go all the way in full Japanese tradition!(5⁄5) We also tried the Teriyaki Salmon Bowl($ 14.50), which also received high marks. This was another healthy dish and not to be missed if you love salmon. A nice cut of wild Pacific salmon, not overcooked but juicy with a crispy layer of skin, and has some delicious cucumber-radish pickles, roasted kabocha and bok choy all in one bowl.(5⁄5) To maintain interest, the menu changes weekly. You can be sure to find something you like with both indoor and outdoor seating. Comforts seem to cater to an older crowd and not so much a place for young hipsters. I need to mention that I have confined my review to the café as there is also a huge take out area that sells an array of salads, artisan sandwiches and entrees and not-to-forget an amazing bakery selling housemade cookies, cupcakes and delectable desserts. Definitely, Comforts is a good place for a one-stop shop. We just need to come back and patronize the take out section.

I love coming here for brunch, lunch, or a snack! My favorites are the burger, the BLT(there’s a fried tomato on it!), and the Chinese chicken salad(of course). Their fries are great. The mimosas are made with fresh orange juice– so delicious!

This is very serious and I care about you so please pay extra special attention. We’ve found what happens when we stumble upon something that isn’t even really very hidden from people but for which there is still a secret special quality particularly for folks far away that don’t come to certain parts often. When we stumble upon them then immediately thereafter run to our favorite food or experience website or wherever and shout from the top of an electronic mountaintop about how splendid that secret is and then suddenly the parking lot for the trail is parked a mile out along the road and all you see all day is toilet paper along the trail and since the sun rises and sets just for us we realize that this only happened because we let the secret out. Let’s be a little bit more circumspect, shall we? It’s hard with those fidigity thumbs and our innate love for humanity driving us all to share instantly and often, but how about this once you just keep something under your hat, kk? Do not speak of the pecan butter stuffed french toast or the perfect bacon. Shut your mouth and do not even whisper over the pastry case in front and how one can load a picnic basket with all manner salads and sandwiches and there’s even wine in the well-stocked market that attaches to the café. Utter not a word over the welcoming and chill vibe even in a land maybe not always known for such things. I’m serious! This is important. Don’t do it.

This review is strictly for their catering department. I’ll save my review for their deli + legendary Chinese Chicken Salad for another time. I recently hosted a wine tasting event for about 50 people in Glen Ellen. I wanted to provide my guests with light bites to pair with the vino. Unfortunately, I only had a limited budget. After price-checking around town, I was amazed to discover that Comforts could offer the most catering bang for my buck. We explained the event scenario to them and head-count, and they immediately got back to us with a proposal that was hard to deny. For $ 250(this included tax and all that jazz), they provided us with a nicely presented cheese & charcuterie platter, toasted crostini with tantalizing jams & spreads, as well as an assortment of mouthwatering cookies & brownies. And believe it or not, this $ 250 order successfully fed a hungry crew of 50 wine-sipping guests. Long story short — Mission accomplished. Comforts hit it out of the park. They were a total delight to work with — from ordering to pick-up. I would totally use them again to help cater a party(whether it’s for business or for pleasure). P. S. — try their Chinese Chicken Salad. It’s the bomb.

Comforts is a Marin staple. It’s a great spot to grab brunch, shop for specialty grocery items, or pick up prepared food from the deli. The staff is exceptionally friendly and the food is excellent. In addition to their café, Comforts also has a wonderful catering department. I recently hired them to cater a wine tasting event that Kevin B. and I hosted in Glen Ellen. Rachael and I worked together to pick out the perfect small bites to accompany our tasting event. She was very helpful and made sure that my selection did not exceed our budget. The pick up process was very simple and the food was beautifully presented. Everything was gone by the time our event concluded, so I think it’s safe to say that the food was a hit! I would definitely hire them again for another event. I also want to mention that Comforts is extremely generous to the local community. They donated a gift card to my school for an annual event that we hosted for the last two years. I am so grateful for their generous donation! Definitely give them a try if you’re in the area, or if you’re looking for a top-notch caterer!
