This is a great find in San Antonio, and right in my hotel. First off, the bar is open to 2:00 a.m., apparently a rarity in San Antonio. The place is in the middle of a renovation, but the ambience is still very nice. So far I’ve had two different bartenders on two different nights, and both have been excellent. Although they are in a transfer period the still have a pretty good selection on beer and liquor. The place is not overly crowded, but there is also enough people that you can strike up a conversation if you’re inclined to do so. I will be back again to tomorrow night.

Not a good place to eat I hand the Navajo sandwich, when it came to the table they had forgotten the chipotle sauce ! My mother order the 6 piece buffalo wings they forgot the ranch and she hand to ask for carrots. The pizza is probably the worst tasting pizza I’ve ever had and that’s coming from a teenager I love pizza ! Over all bad food and mediocre service for a not so good price.

This place is a complete JOKE! Visited for happy hour(called ahead and was told it was from 5 – 7) looking forward to a cocktail and some tapas. Walked in at about 5:15…nice modern, pretty interior… dead…2 people at the bar. Sat at bar & asked what HH specials were. Bartender…“uh…a dollar off stuff.” OK. Ordered vodka and soda with lime. Took her about 10 minutes to fill the glass with ice, meticulously measure the TINY shot of vodka, and place it in front of me. Obviously no bartender experience at all. Then asked about the tapas. «oh, we don’t start serving food until 6.» Again, OK? One hour AFTERHH starts. ??? «May we see a menu now anyway please?» Handed me an 8×11 sheet of paper menu. Wow! Perused the items — didn’t seem to include ANY tapas. They only offer what I would label as traditional American bar fare, e.g., sliders, chips & dips, etc. So asked the bartender where the tapas menu was. «Oh, we’re not serving tapas yet. maybe in a few weeks or so.» At this point, not OK, but rather WTF? We left after one lousy, weak overpriced drink and went elsewhere for food. I was told by a local that it had recently changed names — used to hot dog something??? Don’t know if there’s any truth to that. It’s in a hotel lobby and the same kitchen serves as the hotel’s «full service» restaurant. So disorganized, unprofessional, non-accommodating. Would NOT recommend until/unless they get their crap figured out!

We ate here twice for breakfast and once for lunch during our stay in San Antonio. It is conveniently located in the lobby of the hotel. The service was so-so. We thought it could have been better. The food was pretty decent and reasonably priced. However, I did find a hair in my breakfast burrito our last morning there. It was a real letdown. The burrito was really good, but after finding the hair, it wasn’t too appealing. The server took the burrito off the bill and apologized. I’d probably return here if I were in town again.

Stumbled into this place while bar hopping. Just had 1 beer. Patio area is pretty cool and they were upgrading it a little to make it even better. Worth checking out if your passing by.

Great food, awesome environment, and really nice waitress, even though she was new, she did a great job! Will come back next time we’re coming to San Antonio?!

This is not your typical river walk bar. It’s off the beaten path, blocks away from the river walk action. It feels more like a place for locals or tourists looking to stay away from the typical San Antonio spots. Bar Salona has a nice vibe, with cream-colored brick, old San Antonio photos and a few artsy touches. It’s comfortable and welcoming. We found the service very good. The folks at Bar Salona were friendly, and the only drawback was that they didn’t seem very expert at mixing drinks(which seems like a necessity at a place that’s mostly a bar.) We had some bar bites and they were very good. The queso with chorizo was very tasty(but not very healthy), the avocado bites were fresh and delicious and the steak kabobs were above average. Best of all, the three-selection sampler was less than $ 9. I was impressed with the staff’s efforts to make sure every patron had a great experience. My wife and I will be back for a drink and some tasty appetizers in the future.

This bar is truly a place you’ll only find if you know to look for it. Nestled on the corner of the first floor under the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel, you won’t see it if you blink. Truly, there’s a sign but it’s small and located under an awning — so keep your eyes peeled as you peruse Villita St! It’s worth the look though. The bar has only been open for a couple months but they’re already offering fantastic happy hour specials most days of the week. The inside of the bar has a beautiful Spanish theme throughout. The walls are a gorgeous Cobalt blue and lined with seating. But, the space is tiny. Much better for an intimate gathering than a giant shindig — for now. I hear rumors that they’re expanding into a neighboring space and I imagine once that happens this place could be the hoppin’ hot spot downtown! Service here is really great. The bartenders are friendly and slingin’ really strong drinks. They tell me they have surprisingly little tourist business and cater to a much more local crowd. I believe that must be true because you almost have to know someone who is-in-the-know to know where to find it, you know?! Also, do yourself a favor and order a pitcher of their freshly made Sangria. It was delicious! I’m also told they make their own mojito mix, but sadly, they were out of mint the night I was in so I couldn’t try it. I guess this means I’ll have to check back in as soon as possible, huh? ;-)

A great hidden spot in downtown San Antonio’s historic La Villita district, Bar Salona offers a relaxed scene at the base of the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel. Come during normal business for tapas and other tasty treats before you drink. Happy hour rages from 4:30p-7p weekdays, and on Saturday drink specials are flowing from 7p until the bar closes. Drop in to this new kid on the block and see what they’ve got to offer! A big thanks to San Antonio’s rockstar community manager Krys T. for insisting I visit! She’s always in the know and on the go!
