It breaks my heart to see a place like this have such high reviews, because it really is terrible indian food. I don’t say that to be snobby or pretentious, I can appreciate the fact that the buffet is a good deal for food that is unique and flavorful to the average individual. I say it because giving this place 5 stars gives people a false impression of what good indian food tastes like. It gets way better people, and I urge you to explore other options in the SA area. Kohinoor for example, puts this place to shame. Unfortunately not many people know about it or are even willing to try it due to the fact that it’s not a buffet. This, again, breaks my heart. I don’t know when indian food started becoming synonymous with«buffet», but it’s a trend I’m seeing more and more. The problem with buffets is that the food quality has to be consistently low in order to keep it economically viable. This place is no different. Like it or not, know it or not, you are getting low quality indian food when you come here. If that’s ok with you… so be it. But just know that this is not even a close approximation of how the food is supposed to taste. This place is like the panda express of chinese food. Stop going here. It’s hurting my heart. 2 stars because it’s still better than all the 1 star restaraunts out there.

Went to Bombay Hall for the first time and I was very happy with the buffet choices and customer service. Food was super fresh and tasty! Planning to go back for more.

Delish! Buffet that doesn’t taste like a buffet! Everything we had was delicious, and fresh naan was delivered to our table throughout our meal. Loved by cloth the adults and kids in our group, and the service was great too.

Very good, unexpecting from the curb appeal. Worth going in. I enjoyed it very much. Make sure to get a mango smoothie with your food.

Best Indian food! I am very very picky about Indian food… this place uses high grade ingredients and spices. They have an amazing lunch set up with a variety of great items. Love the spicy stuff here! Highly recommend this place! They are very nice and accommodating who out baby when we walk in. This is the only place we will go for Indian!

My fiancée and I come here week after week. The food is always so fresh, the service is so excellent. They even helped with my proposal(I gave them a huge tip!). Best of all, they bring fresh garlic naan to the table over and over.

Pretty good Indian food near the medical center. I came here and had the dinner buffet on Christmas Eve, so this won’t really be a fair review since most of the buffet food was not fresh. What was fresh though was the garlic naan that they bring out to your table, which was amazing, hot and slightly crispy. This was by far the best part of the buffet. Other standouts include the super soft bone-in chicken, matar paneer, vegetable biryani, and all the desserts — gulab jamun, mango custard, and kheer. Everything else was just merely decent/avg, likely because it was late with few customers, so nothing new had been brought out in a while. I also had the masala chai which I thought was alright, but too sweet.

The naan is great. The curry is not. It’s super bland. The tandoori chicken is the same. I’m not asking to be blown away by searing hot peppers(I usually order curry Mild) but SOME spiciness needs to be there. The service was good, the staff were friendly and I like that you pay at the counter in the back. Both their raita and mango pudding were good.

Clean, clean, clean. Sparkling clean. This earns many points with me. I’ve been going here for years now and you can’t even describe how pleasant it is to walk in here on a cold day and be enveloped by the steamy, spicy warmth of this buffet. The food is delicious — full of flavor — the waitstaff is excellent. Your drink will never empty. And the naan? I’ve never had better naan in my life. The cherry almond naan is not to be missed, nor any of the others. Do give them a try. The other Indian buffet is excellent too, but there is something special about Bombay Hall. I highly recommend.

The best thing about Bombay Hall is the fresh, hot naan that is delivered to your table as part of their buffet. Other than that, I can’t think of any reason to go here instead of the better known Indian buffet just around the corner. The aforementioned not withstanding, the food is fine here at Bombay Hall. The buffet was well stocked with a representative sample of Indian delights. The saag paneer, unfortunately, seemed to be lacking the cheese chunks that make it one of my favorites. Their chicken tikka masala was excellent in contrast… I found Bombay Hall’s tandoori chicken a bit bland and dry and their samosas were soft and mushy not crispy on the outside like they should be. Service was excellent. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. He asked if I needed more naan before I needed more naan but not while I had too much naan. The gal picking up the plates was on task — I never arrived back to my table to find my old used plate still there. Bombay Hall is a decent Indian buffet in a neighborhood with a great Indian buffet. This is unfortunate for them. As a result, next time I’m going to my favorite Indian buffet around the corner and I’d recommend you do the same.

Great place to come if you arent much into trying new things without knowing what it is! The buffet is by far the best idea ive seen yet since you come in, sit down, order drinks and go fill up a plate. Great when you have a hungry brood or small impatient child. The labels are clear about whats spicy, what type of animal is used in what meats, the basic ingredients and flavor profile of a dish, and really since its a buffet theres no downside to trying anything since you dont have to pay for a whole dish just to find out you dont like it. They have menu ordering too, which ive yet to do besides drinks. Im not a big fan of the spinach dish as much as other places ive been but overall the flavor profiles are more sweet and mild so its perfect for spice whimps like me. The tea is good but once again ive had better though i do enjoy it anyway its not my first pick for tea. My last«complaint» is the rice pudding dessert(im so horrid with names), its good, but im so use to it «fresh» meaning hot that im not quite as fond of it despite it being just as good as other places i frequent. None of the desserts are warm, and i guess thats my failing to enjoy hot drinks and hot food more than cold. Especially desserts. :) My indian friend calls it the white people buffet since the majority of patrons are indeed cacasians who look to enjoy the less spicy option. As for me, so long as they have good food that everyone i bring can find something they like its a win!

Let’s start with a thumbs up for this food spot’s News 4 San Antonio Blue Plate awards in 2009, 2011&2013. Sweet! Moving on… In my opinion, Bombay Hall is the best overall bang-for-your-buck Indian eatery on SA’s Northwest Side regarding buffet spread QUANTITY. Some may argue nearby India Palace as the superior of the two, but I personally think there’s no competition. In short, Bombay’s where the flavor’s at. Hands down. The only other Indian eatery this side of town that may have slightly stronger flavor game is my all-time favorite Spice Fine Indian Cuisine.(Read my review for them!) The food is plenty. And flavor abundant. Firstly, a complimentary basket of HOT, SUPERFRESH garlic naan. And the buffet(lunch before 2:30PM, dinner after 5) — Tandoori Chicken, Beef Kofta, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Karahi, Baingan Bharta, Palak Paneer, Samosas, Vegetable Biryani, Aloo Gobi, Cilantro Mint Chutney, Mango Custard, Rice Pudding — all up for grabs. [There are about 10 additional items… great offerings… just unfamiliar with their names.] Drink selection is quite varied too, including sweet or salted lassi, masala chai, $ 1.75 coffee, ~$ 20 wines(bottle), ~$ 4 beers. Bombay sits right on Wurzbach Rd just past Fredericksburg Rd outside SA’s Medical Center. Front, side, rear parking available. The interior is surprisingly large and lively, yet not chaotic like a Chinese mega buffet. Very nice décor… and super clean as well! Service is wonderful; each member of the staff more than welcoming and attentive. Rating specifics(i.e. 1 – 5, low-high)… Overall recommendation = 5; Food taste and quality = 5; Portion size = 5; Price = 4.5; Restaurant atmosphere = 5; General service = 5; Waitstaff amiability = 5; Location and/or first impression = 4.5.

The hot, fresh naan was AMAZING and the server that brought it out to you was also very nice. Some of the chicken dishes were a bit dry, but maybe it was the day that I went. Otherwise all of the food in the buffet was delectable. The dessert was quite satisfying! Only thing that I would recommend is adding pistachios to rice pudding and that would have really won me over. Also, if you’re a lingerer, then I would highly recommend coming here with your friends to catch up or what not. I never felt rushed to leave and it’s a great place to bring out of town guests!

Delicious Indian food and friendly service! The fresh, hot naan bread is to die for and they will keep bringing it out as you need it. The food was fresh and hot at the buffet bar. The desserts were unique and flavorful. Try the mango custard and milk balls for an interesting treat.

Went here on 6÷6÷15 and sample their buffet. The service was very good, as was the food. The naan was amazing. Some of the chicken in the dishes on the buffet line was a little dry, but the rice, sauces and vegetables were excellent. The rice pudding and the mango custard were *very* good. Looking forward to another visit soon!

I’ve order out 3 times from this little place and every single time the food was delectable. Their curries are as good as those you might find on Edgware Rd. in London. Surprisingly, they are never busy when I come to pick up, even on a Friday night. They’ve won multiple blue plate awards, and the owner always has proudly displayed, the most recent health inspection results(as «perfect score»). It’s a bummer because this place deserves to be unbelievably busy. Hopefully folks give it a shot.

Bombay Hall sure got my attention with all their flavorful offerings and crispy naan! We were going to Golden Wok for lunch but that place is a mad house during that time so we just hopped across the street and tried Bombay for the first time. The interior is a little on the cramped side, we were seated very close to other tables and that can be a hassle when you’re with a loud friend. After giving our server the drink orders he was kind enough to walk through the buffet with us to explain what everything was, loved this! Everything I tried was memorable and wasn’t as spicy as I had expected, I’m still taking baby steps in the hot direction. The rice, samosas, and lentil offerings were excellent! Every chicken option fell of the bone and was incredibly juicy. I’ll be bringing my niece in because she just turned vegetarian on us… I know she’ll love Bombay’s offerings! Service was fast and efficient. Once you’re done you pay at the back of the restaurant. My friend is still raving about getting back to Bombay! Check it out!

Delicious, always well attended to great selection on the buffet. Fresh Nan brought out to your table cooked to perfection. Lots of vegetarian selection available if you need it & clean as can be. I have to say the attitude is way better here than what I have experienced at India Palace so that is what also keeps me coming back. My favorite Indian food joint by far. Have someone available to roll you out, you can do potential damage here by getting carried away. Take it slow, savor the flavor.
