Great beef cheek sandwich! Also tries the pork belly sandwich, and it was equally good. Very tasty, flavorful food.

We tried Cheeks & Chops at the Southtown Farmers and Ranchers Market this past Saturday morning for breakfast. I had a delicious egg and chorizo sandwich that was served on an excellent soft/sweet roll. My girlfriend had the tortilla espanola which was perfectly cooked. The menu overall looks excellent & I am looking forward to trying their lunch & dinner items when they are parked at the Alamo St Eat.

Pros: located at the Alamo Street Eat Bar, delicious papas bravas, wonderfully tasty shredded beef! Cons: please have one tasty vegetarian option; please don’t put hot food items on the styrofoam plates because it melts them and then I end up getting some styrofoam in my food Javier is going to make a name for himself. Cheeks and Chops is a great food truck in the Alamo Street Eat Bar that serves up heavenly pork and beef sandwiches. I had the shredded beef sandwich on a nicely toasted bun with avocado, shredded lettuce, and manchego cheese. The beef tasted like it was marinated for hours because it was moist with a bit of a sweet tang. I also noticed that the beef had ever so slightly crisp edges, which tells me that it was cooked to where the outside of the piece of meat caramelized. These crispy, slightly burnt edges nicely complimented the juicy/tangy/savory quality of the meat. I also ordered the papas bravas, or «brave potatoes.»(think of seasoned home fries). The papas were excellent and cooked to perfection: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The seasoning was out of this world. I thought it was smoked paprika, but Javier told me that it was a secret. He later divulged that he uses a dried, smoked Spanish pepper. Anyway, the pepper did not make the potatoes spicy, but it did add a wonderful zing. The only thing that I would recommend is that Javier have one vegetarian option on the menu. The only reason I request that, even though I am not vegetarian, is because of his location. Southtown is one of San Antonio’s more diverse neighborhoods that has a sizable vegetarian population. I think having a vegetarian-friendly dish would increase business that much more. Though it is still tentative, Javier mentioned that he is trying to open a restaurant in the Blue Star complex that will be called Baraca(or Baraka). I wish him the best of luck in his endeavor and I know that he will do great if it happens. But in the meantime, I will make Cheeks and Chops among my regular food truck stops.
