Divine Taste-Chef Waldo’s International Cuisine

Tried this place quite randomly the other day for lunch. First of all — the place is certainly a hole in the wall. But the very best kind.
Chef Waldo and the rest of his staff are just darling, and make you feel immediately comfortable! A lot of personality and pride in what they serve — which is always refreshing to see.
Lunch ($ 6.99 + tax) was an all you can eat buffet– style serving, and was not only incredibly delicious, but also unique. I highly recommend trying the chicken — fell right off the bone and incredibly flavorful — but I doubt you will go wrong with anything there.
All in all, I would describe this place as a hidden gem, and I will certainly be returning!

OK, you’ve got to try this place at least once! Sure it is a hole in the wall, sure it’s in a nothing strip mall just outside the 401 loop — but once you get inside — what class!
Table cloths and cloth napkins, even at noon. Walls covered with Chef Waldo’s accolades and other interesting artifacts. . and at the head of the little room, a table filled with the tastiest of lunches. (We came on a Groupon, which gave us the lunch buffet for two, including tea, for $ 6.99 plus tax.)
Your meal begins with a cup of self-​serve soup, a choice of spicy (and delicious) seafood, chicken, or beef. (We only tried the seafood, and would love to have a whole bowl some other time.) Chef Waldo himself served our plates — two kinds of rice, pork, chicken, yucca, tamale, yam, plaintain, beans, and a wee slice of Cuban bread. .. heaped high, our plate was beyond delicious, each bite tastier than the last. Spouse particularly liked the spicy tamale.
Did I say spicy? Well, not really — until you add some of the six different HOT sauces available — all delicious, all home made, and some ready to cauterize your taste buds for the rest of the day. Fortunately, a table of cut up melon and other fruits, and their wonderful peach iced tea offer just enough sweet to bring your tongue back to the land of tasting. Good thing, too, because this is a meal of which you don’t want to miss a single bite.
Service is friendly and informal. No question, we will be back.

Please note that this restaurant is listed at least three times on Unilocal– probably so that you don’t see the many negative reviews.
I tried for months to redeem a Groupon for this company, and have not once been able to do so. When I reach them by phone, a resolution is never offered, leading me to request a refund– see email below, which futher details their rather ridiculous customer service, or lack thereof.
After two failed attempts to visit, I took down their phone number and called the next day, and a lady answered, and again explained their catering scheduling issues– saying they often did events on weekends and advised calling beforehand the next time I tried to come. There was never an apology for the inconvenience or any comments made regarding the now-​upcoming expiration date of the Groupon deal.
Last week I called on Friday to confirm dinner hours. I explicitly explained my frustration and received no apology, just a repetition that they would be open Monday.
So, yesterday was Monday.
I called before leaving my house, not wanting to waste my gas again, and no one ever answered the phone, leading me to believe that they were NOT open for dinner as they had stated.
I am frustrated that this company’s lack of concern for their customers and bizarre lack of adherence to their posted hours.

This place is SOOOOO wonderful! Went today for lunch with my sweetie… place was filled with OBVIOUS friends and fans as everyone that walked in or out of the place was like family… greating and being greated by Chef Waldo and his darling bride Josie! Enjoyed the best roast chicken ever, his to DIE for tamales (both pork and chicken) and his moist, crispy skinned roasted pork with all the sides. Chef Waldo knows how to do it up right piling your plate with SOOOO much fantastic food. EVERTHING is so very good, and served with MUCH LOVE. This couple pour their heart and soul into their place, and it is VERY apparent! Love you both, have recommended you to so many, and EVERYONE we have taken/​recommended you to feel the same way after their first visit! Happy New Year and may 2013 bring you continued joy and happiness!!!
