This place is only worth it for the dim sum, which is average. I’m from Houston, where the dim sum exceeds anything in SA. The regular menu; don’t waste your money unless you enjoy Americanized-Chinese food which you can find almost on every block in San Antonio. It gets pretty busy on the weekends during dim sum hours(10 am or 11am-2pm) and they won’t seat you until your entire party is present. The service here is just okay. I had one bad experience with a server(don’t know her name, I only identify her as the server with bad drawn-in eyebrows), and I only tipped her $ 1. I used to be a server, so I know the struggle. But when you ignore our table, constantly walking by without giving us the time of day, and don’t show up with the food we ordered after telling us you saw the chef making it, you’re going to get $ 1.

Just gross. HORRIBLE Service! Kim would walk off while I was asking for something, I even tried to lift her spirits by asking how her day was, she said busy, and walked off lol. She was just a mess, I felt rushed, and like we were in her way. Food took an hour to come out. Table was sticky. Salt and Pepper containers were sticky. Bathroom toilet was flooded. I mean just gross! I can’t imagine back of the house sanitation. Place has gone way down.

Great Chinese food but absolute worst service. Especially when making to go orders. They have cut me off twice when making a to go order and have hung up on me on the phone before I was even done talking. So rude. It’s a shame that their food is so good but their service is the opposite.

The dim sum is tasteless with very thick wonton skins. Looks like dim sim and Chinese dishes but nowhere near authentic, not even close. Plus everything is very expensive for what you get. The Kung pao chicken was very very sweet, no heat with a lot of peanuts. I’ve never had sweet Kung pao, so disappointing for a very overpriced dish. So much so I would call it Kung pao peanuts. Apparently the same cooks on the Mongolian cook tops are preparing the ala carte menu and throw any sauce they have in front of them in the dish… yuk. Save your money here and keep looking… so far San Antonio strikes out with there Chinese food resturant been to 3 so far all terrible experience.

Well, we wanted Chinese and we needed someplace that was open late. And boy did we pick wrong. Either we came late and the B team was cooking or the quality of food has gone down tremendously. First, we ordered Dim Sum. We had to go through most of the menu before we could order something that they still serving. Then we ordered soups which were the highlight of the meal. I had Hot and Sour. Wife had the House Soup which had shrimp, pork chicken, wontons, and Chinese vegetables. It came in a bucket. Our waiter should have told us it was a lot of soup but nonetheless, both were very delicious. Then came the disappointment. The meal, Pork fried rice, Mongolian beef, and General Tso’s chicken tasted like Chinese from the Mall. It did not taste like Chinese food. But it did not taste bad either. In all my travels, I have discovered that Chinese food either tastes really good or really bad. This one fell somewhere in between which I did not believe existed. Will not be coming back.

The rice noodles are plentiful and filling. And I really enjoyed the tropical Asian garden landscape. I need to eat here more often.

This apparently is the only Dim Sum spot for San Antonio– which is weird, since in a couple of years this city will be 300 years old and there isn’t a Chinatown… Any who– close but far… For what we are used to in Vegas… Service was great– bill was high for what we got. Overall– if you absolutely have to have dim sum this will suffice for the interim until you get the real deal. Enjoy!

Always good. Great variety and good dim sum. Very busy on weekends. Worth the wait though.

My boyfriend and I are searching for our new Chinese food place in San Antonio. This place is okay. A little more expensive than others and the food was not up to par. We loved the atmosphere and our waitress was great, it’s just not the food we were hoping for!

We were going to sit to eat but opted to order takeout instead, what a zoo. The menu said whole fish steamed, what that means is whole frozen pieces of shrink wrapped tilapia not a «Whole fish«. Standard cheap eats with a Mongolia half hearted spin at that. The entertainment was cool, waiters and takeout staff arguing with cooks. The place has a high feel of disgruntlement with a thick greezy cloud. I hate it when my food and me come between an angry staff, reminds me why I should eat at home more. The soups were too salty and the egg drop tasted like cigarettes marinated as a spice. They have cool Koi fish swimming outside reminded me about how little fish I had in my plate. The pictures on the reviews are old like looking at dead relative photos of a time long gone sooo sad.

Came here for dim sum since is the only one that show up for San Antonio. The décor is great but service is horrible. The waitress looks like she doesn’t want to be there. Order the usual Dim sum it took a while for it too come out. I think is because we are the only one in this huge restaurant that order it. Everyone else order regular lunch item. Dim sum was ok but the shrimp dumbling skin is so strechy to eat. Guess don’t come during weekdays for it. Crossing this one off my bookmarks.

My mom treats the family here when I’m in town. She loves this place. The line is into the parking lot before they even open. I’m a lovely white-washed shade of Asian, so dim-sum really isn’t my favorite. The dim-sum here is of decent quality. They have English-speaking gentlepersons pushing around carts of freshly made treats. After awhile, the same 3 carts started circulating. It got to the point where we had to ask for specific dishes. Well, that takes the fun out of it. My main beef with this location is that the kitchen is completely open, allowing the fumes and remnants of fried chinese food to waft into the dining room, attaching itself to the fibers of your clothing and individual strands of hair. Service was great. I just don’t like dim-sum.

Love love love this place! There is absolutely no other place in San Antonio that sells good, authentic Cantonese dim sum! Every time I come to San Antonio I try to go eat dim sum here. In fact, this place has me spoiled. I’ve tried the dim sum even in Las Vegas and no one compares though my search continues. The absolute best time to go is Saturday and Sunday for brunch though they have a limited dim sum selection on the menu for dinner. But for brunch you have the carts with so many options of dim sum just walking around you all the time. Yes, it can get packed. Especially on Sunday so either get there early or expect a little wait for the table but it’s soooooo worth it. My favorite dim sum dishes are the beef Chung fun, shrimp har gow, shrimp Sui Mai, squid, and pork bun. I honestly love everything here but those are by far my favorites. Even the dinner menu selections are awesome. Try the Pan fried noodles! They are crispy and flavorful. Service is always excellent here as well. The place is clean, the décor is contemporary, the food is excellent. What more could a person want?!

Definitely a great Chinese restaurant to go to. The Wurzbach location is probably the best one to try. You can’t go wrong on the prices especially for lunch. Different lunch specials everyday. My daughters who are somewhat picky do like the food too. They just order the lemon chicken lunch special. Golden Womens is a must try.

I have always loved Golden Wok. I’ve been coming here since I was little girl. Before they even had the Wurzbach location. In my opinion Golden Wok has the best Chinese food in San Antonio. The only place I know of that serves good Dim Sum in SA. You can’t go wrong with anything you order here, everything is delicious! They have the best fried rice ever! Yes, even better than the San Antonio staple Golden Star. Then why the reason for the 3 star rating? Over the years Golden Wok is becoming more and more stingy on their portions. The prices keep going up and portion size of the meals go down. Sometimes I think their«Chicken and Broccoli» should just be called«Broccoli» because the chicken is scarce. Fortunately the quality of the food has not gone down or I would stop going altogether. But as a long time loyal customer I don’t appreciate them«cutting corners» in things that greatly affect their customers. I will continue to come here, but definitely not as much as I use to in the past.

My husband and I went in for dim sum at around 1230. We weren’t seated until well after our promised wait time, and this is due to the host/hostess. They had a young kid taking care of the seating, and he totally screwed it up! He had parties seated that had arrived past other parties, etc, and when I went to ask about it, it turns out he had mixed the orders up of almost everyone that had come in. COOL. I understand that everyone needs to learn processes, but it probably isn’t the best time to do it during peak hours when the place is packed. We primarily came in for dim sum, and there were two waiters bringing the carts and other dishes around. The food was hot and tasted good, however, dim sum stops being served at 2. By that time, we had barely made 1 round before it was over. Our waitress said that our pork sui mai and flat noodles would have to be a special order placed in the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, we were still waiting on our«special» order. Our sui mai came, but the noodles never did… because the waitress never placed the order. When they did come, they were not the traditional rice noodle rolls served during dim sum, but what appeared to be some type of lo mein? Our waitress assured us that those were indeed dim sum noodles, as it was a house special. Riiiiight. So, we had to place a THIRDORDER to get the correct item. All in all, the dim sum was good«for San Antonio» as my husband stated, but honestly the experience we had was NOT worth going back.

Came to Golden Wok with my family to celebrate my dad’s and my birthday. We didn’t realize they open at 10:30 on Sunday so parking lot was full at 11:00. But we were seated quickly once everyone was here. My son and I definitely wanted the dim sum. My other family members are the regular dishes and everything looked great. Little bites from what they had proved me right. My son and I had some pork and shrimp dim sums, along with chicken feet. The feet had a gelatinous texture to the skin, but the sauce was very good. When dessert time came around we ordered three plates of sweet dim sum. A couple had egg custard and one was a fruit tart. We all had bites and everyone enjoyed. A sweet end to the meal!

**This review is for dimsum only** My Golden Wok dimsum experience can be summed up as AUTHENTIC food with a DIFFERENT dining experience. – Food: The dimsum dishes I tried were all really good! As a visitor from Los Angeles where cheap, legit dimsum restaurants are a dime a dozen, I was happy to see how authentic everything was here! Some dishes I would recommend are the Fu Pei Guen(beancurd skin rolls) and the Char Siu Sou(puff pastry with BBQ pork inside). – Dining Experience: For dimsum, this place has entirely English speakers pushing around the carts — definitely not the usual cute little Cantonese ladies that I’ve grown up seeing. Not gonna lie, it felt strange to be asking this younger dude pushing the cart for a specific dish, only to realize I’ve never had to ask for a dish in its English name before! I guess that’s the San Antonio dimsum experience(ain’t even mad. The food was good, who cares??) The next time I’m in San Antonio and my family takes me here again, I wouldn’t mind.
