It has been a year since I was in San Antonio and I still remember this coffee shop. It was a little out of the way from the places I stayed and my employer, but the quality of the coffee was enough to take the time. I hope the place is still open I and I hope to get back there again to enjoy a good pour over coffee again. Their muffins, bagels and other foods were good too. Definitely worth the distance from the Starbucks on San Pedros.

Grassroots provides several different ways of preparing coffee. The baristas know their stuff and are happy to talk shop. Try the aeropress!

Great place. Might be my favorite coffeeshop atmosphere in town. Up and coming but still relatively undiscovered location with artists and other cool stuff moving in. Delicious coffee, cool friendly people working ther

Man, I hope this place survives. There’s so much to love about Grassroots Coffee(as I recently found out) but will it stand the test of time? Read on… First the upsides: — Coffee.(Duh). This places serves up a fantastic cup — bold, robust and good to the last drop, to steal the Maxwell House line. Affordable, too! About $ 2 for a regular coffee. And there are many, many drink selections and specialties. — Location. Grassroots is close enough to the Quarry and Broadway, yet off the beaten path on W. Sunset. The shop is connected to some furniture store with uppity old ladies. Just so ya know… — Seating. Much of the furniture inside the coffee shop is for sale(I think), and it’s really, really comfortable. Bar stools, leather club chairs, and round tables for groups. Oh, and there’s a side«terrace» with lounging chairs and big umbrellas. Kind of awkward with it being surrounded by concrete, but nice nonetheless. The only downside is I heard the baristas stressing and worrying about not getting enough business. Don’t know how long Grassroots has been around, but it was typical entrepreneur stuff like location, limited hours because of the adjoined furniture store, selling coffee during the summer, the fact that it’s OFF the beaten path, like I said earlier, yada yada yada. So do the world a favor, and stop by Grassroots. Let your taste buds experience a real cup of outstanding coffee. Bring a friend. Leave a tip. Perhaps the only reason I don’t come here more often is the fact that Grassroots is about 20 minutes from my home. Don’t know if they have restrooms.

Its one thing to say«shop local» its another to do it. You should do it. With not one BUTTWO starsucks down the road, Grassroots embraces the local supporter and definitely goes above and beyond to convert those corporate coffee drinkers! I love being talked to like they really care about what I’m drinking and let me know where my bagel came from and where my beans were roasted. Gosh, there’s so much love in that building! Sure it takes a little more time for your drink to be ready, but I feel better knowing its not being made by a time crunched factory worker(exaggerate much?). P. S. Peep the boutique whilst waiting. There are some fabulous finds!

Very sweet people, the furniture for sale in the back is amazing and i wish i wasnt lower middle class so i could decorate my house like that! They got our drinks wrong but immediately fixed it and made sure it was perfect. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere of cozy and comfy but still clean and organized in a devil may care type of way. The misc stuff they sale looks up-to-par but i havent bought any yet. Desserts looked great but i could barely finish my drink so ill be returning to try the yummy looking confectionery delights. This place is for the coffee lover who knows their coffee and likes options for how its made. They took their time explaining things to this newbie and made me feel a little less baffled looking at the options i didnt know existed.

I hate to do this but I have to drop grassroots a star for diminishing quality. The last few shots that have been pulled for me at grassroots have been pretty bad and I tasted my wife’s drip the other day and it was not good, really not very good at all. Not sure what the problem is here but their quality just appears to be straight up down. Overall, I hope the place improves again as it used to be a definite stop for me on Saturdays since I live nearby; now, it just a couple steps up from the local Starbucks. Grassroots please get back to your roots — you have/had so much potential…

Hiding in plain view on Sunset around the corner from the two Quarry Starbucks is Grassroots. This cute little coffee shop is connected to an awesome furniture showroom, so make sure to set aside some time to not only sip but also browse and maybe buy. A unique line up of bottled juices and carbonated drinks are perfect for the non coffee drinker too.

This place rocks!!! I can’t state that enough. Having visited Grassroots has upped my level of respect for coffee. Previously, I was a Starbucks kind of guy, but now that I’ve tasted what coffee should taste like, I’m never going back to SBX again. They have this drink called the«Bloom.» I gotta say, it’s probably the most innovative coffee technology released in quite some time. It involves the barrista lovingly hand pouring the hot water over the grounds in a very specific manner through this strange glass contraption to release the greatest potential of the brew. It takes a while for this drink, so don’t get it if you’re in a rush, but how many incredibly great things are available at the snap of a finger?! There’s free wi-fi here, which is another added perk. The staff here is incredibly knowledgeable about coffee. They don’t just know their drinks, they have a PASSION for coffee. They know when the beans were roasted, what flavors to look for, how they were blended, the best way to grind them(they even vary the grind based upon the atmospheric conditions!!!) I’ve never seen such attention to detail with coffee. The food selection is expanding, with homemade cookies, and now muffins! Their smoothies are to die for!(Try the strawberry– nom nom nom) The coffee shop is connected to a funky furniture store, which has all kinds of great stuff. In short, this place is amazing.
