Lots of beer to choose from, indoor and outdoor seating, and they have cornhole! Bike friendly patio area, and there’s always a food truck parked right outside. The staff is always awesome, and they know their beer! Some of the cleanest restrooms in town!

Had good enough beer but ambience is kind of like a bar in the lobby of a business complex. No parking nearby. Owner came out to insist we don’t smoke outside.

This place is awesome! Great beer selection, and a great outside patio area as well. Staff is friendly and fast. Beer is super cold — what a great place. Plenty of parking right next door or on the street. If you are in the downtown area — stop by — you will not be disappointed.

Been here twice when I’ve wanted a beer on a Sunday afternoon and I’m in the area. Selection is great and it’s a casual vibe. It is definitely not a local pub feel, but there are a lot of people who clearly come here often. There is no food here, but they do have plenty of screens and board games to enjoy with friends.

I almost want to give this place less stars just so more people don’t come here. This is about the coolest spot I have been to in San Antonio. Fantastic beer, friendly service, and board games for your enjoyment. Seriously. They have community board games you can pick up and play. My new favorite spot.

Love this place, they have so many options to choose from and will let you sample whatever your heart desires. The employees know their beer info so don’t be shy about asking. Love the patio seating and dog friendly atmosphere. They have corn hole to keep you busy as well. They’ll show games and fights on a projector outside too. They don’t have«bar hours» due to being in a residential building so that helps keep the drunks out. It’s a nice and quiet place when no events are going on, super chill vibe. They have growlers for sale(bring your own too), wine, beer in cans and bottles — not just draft. A few food trucks are across the street and you can bring it in to GS; there is a chalkboard outside so you can see what the food line up is… or follow on FB.

One of those times I wish I could give 4.5 stars, but yay why not a 5? GS1221 is an awesome little growler station bar that gives the feel of a neighborhood tavern. Perfect if you need a break before you reach Pearl or if you’re meeting friends who live in the area. It’s a dog friendly, board game stocked, bring your empty growler kind of place where the best course is to walk home(or upstairs). Sadly, if you don’t live nearby, you can’t really enjoy the full effect. Parking the car in the large garage, winding down a couple staircases remembering that you still have to make it home is a real buzzkill. But for those of you who can do it every day and every night, I salute you!

Very nice and helpful bartender. He steered me to one of the best beers I’ve had since getting into town. I even bought a Growler and hiked three miles with it back to the hotel. Worth it!

Who would’ve thunk there would be a neat little spot underneath an apartment complex?! I know mixed developments are a thing and it’s the next big wave to come for our city. But… GS1221 has been holding it’s ground for a while now and I’m shocked I’m just NOW barely writing a review about. GS1221 is to beer enthusiasts as sugar water is to mosquitoes; we just easily gravitate to this ish. They’re dedicated to the craft beer scene and the offerings are always changing. Don’t worry me lads and my ladies(sorry watching Once Upon A Time as I type) they also runneth the miracle water, wine, here for thee as well. If you’re wanting to catch the game then this spot has you covered and they even feature a jumbo screen outside on select nights. Once you get those oh so momentous feelings in your stomach, no not love at first sight, but the drunchies(trademarking this if I remember too) you can waddle yourself to the food truck they partner with outside! It’s great to hang out at a spot dedicated to a select offering and the outside patio is great for hosting shindigs.

One of my favorite places to grab a beer and hangout with friends. Low-key and pleasant service. Beer selection is excellent. Location is perfect.

I love having a growler station in the growing downtown residential neighborhood. The staff are usually very kind and helpful, and the prices are reasonable. Although I’m not into sports, there are always events for games and playoffs here too, as well as food trucks to support. My only complaint is that the gS doesn’t stay open that late-it’s a close at 9/10pm kind of place, so be prepared to go somewhere else if it’s a late night!

Great brewery, great selection of beer. The staff is well knowledgable and samples are provided. They offer bar food cooked by like a truck(it’s cheap and pretty good portions) I had the stout(smoky) very bold and the ballast pale ale(light and easy)

I’m sitting at GS writing this … I know you’re not surprised. I love this bar. It’s a perfect addition to the Pearl/Broadway area, and I’m happy it’s here to stay. The staff is essential. It is everywhere, will make or break an establishment, but this staff is ESSENTIAL. Essential to my existence. I come here for good conversation and positive vibes. It’s relaxing with a small town, but still revolving door kind of feel. Of course, I love beer. And GS has good beer. They generally have a wide variety, approx. 30 beers on tap. There are bottle/can specials and the drafts are decently priced. Don’t forget, it’s a growler station! There are two sizes offered, bring your own, and resident discounts. It’s a clean and comfortable atmosphere. They have an amazing patio. About 5 – 6 days a week they have a food truck on site. I know I’ve missed something awesome, but I need to finish my review so I can drink my beer…

A friend and I were here on Sunday night after dinner to catch up. It wasn’t crowded and I parked in the parking lot right next to the building. They had 30 beers on tab and about 10 of them are TX beers. There is a outside patio with a place for dogs, and SNF is on, there were also TVs inside showing the SNF and Spurs game. Plenty chairs and tables and a very clean place. The only suggestion, from my friend, is there is no description/picture of each beer for the novice folks, she didn’t know what is the difference between Stout and IPA(and yes, I told her that she can try each beer, but I think pictures like in BJ’s would help with novice customers). Just a suggestion. Overall, a great place to drink craft beer and chill out

GS1221 is a great craft beer bar, set in an industrial setting. Concrete floors, open ceilings, exposed coolers, its a cool look. They have 30 taps, with a filing system for the higher priced beers that I haven’t seen in many places before, let alone in San Antonio. They also have a great bottle and can selection, with a few wines and Saint Arnold root beer for you non beer drinkers. On the weekends, you can indulge in a mimosa or five. Generally, there is a food truck outside to keep you carbed up and ready to go, and a game on the tv to entertain you. Since it is a growler station, you can take beers to go in a growler, but sit and enjoy a beer or two first. Insider tip: patio is dog friendly and the plugs inside have usb ports to charge your phones. And there are plugs under the bar!

The area was definitely hurting for a reliable growler station and GS1221 filled the void. This place has a great patio, which makes the decision difficult of whether to spend time in or outside. Either way you’ll be able to partake in a great craft beer selection, so it’s a win. The one thing I really really like about this place is their attention servicing the customer in a timely manner. Their beer servers understand how to operate multiple spots on a counter AND the window. During the Spurs 2014 Finals this place was beyond packed and I don’t think anyone waited more than 8 mins for a beer. There’s also big TVs placed at the right angles for inside viewing. The outside TV has a good angle for the patio, but the best thing is the slab screen during big games and sound loud enough for everyone to hear. I made the mistake of going to the Friendly Spot during a play-off game and was embarrassed for suggesting it to my group. Their slab is blocked by the bar line that never seems to go away. I mean super slow service. You’ll easily spend a quarter or more waiting to buy overpriced beer. Also the volume, which comes from only 1 speaker is super low. Then you have to wait for the sun to go down. NOTHANKS!!! If you drive to GS1221, you can park in the garage on the first floor. I’ve also been told if you leave your car there overnight(first floor) you won’t be towed. That way you can get a cab if you’ve had too much.

I love the new addition to Broadway! This place is incredible. It’s much better than the competition, Big Hops. They have a much larger selection of beers to try, a little bit of info on each beer on the chalkboard prominently displayed by the bar. Plus, the best thing is their growler filling station, where they purge the oxygen from the growler with carbon dioxide in order to make the beer last longer. You see, oxygen is what makes the beer turn bad, through oxidization. Their little containers that they seal up your growler in is air-tight, and pushes out the O2 before they pour in the beer. Brilliant! I love the fact that they keep beer books out on the table so you can learn about the brews they serve, and find out a bit more about the beers you’re drinking. Educational! They have an indoors seating area with a few TVs to watch the game, and an outdoors seating area that’s pet friendly. The beer prices are fair, and they have a wide variety to chose from. Some of the beers are ones that you’re not going to find at HEB or even other bars. Cheers to GS1221!

Home of the most kickass, fancypants growler-filling system in town… awesome! The selection of beers with which to fill those growlers seems to be expanding rapidly, and there’s a really decently stocked cooler of To-Go bottles & cans as well.

A great addition to the Broadway/Museum Reach. With a large selection of beers, many of them from Texas, this place is great spot for any beer lover. You can grab a brew by the pint or in one of the varying growler sizes. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. They offer indoor and outdoor seating with TVs and a good mix of classic rock music in both locations. I prefer the outdoor seating because it gets rather loud inside. Prices are reasonable and if you live at the 1221, you get a residence discount. The hours aren’t the best but they do stay open late for Spurs games. If you like beer, this place is definitely worth checking out.

In my humble opinion I think the growler market seems a bit over flooded with inventory at the moment. In reality the first spot to present this method, The Alamo Drafthouse, spurred a new way of scoring your beer. And then The Big Hops Growler blew the door wide open for the new craft beer revolution in San Antonio. But now you can score a growler almost anywhere it seems these days to include Whole Foods, Central Marketplace, The Friendly Spot, The Filling Station and numerous restaurants around town. Enter the GS1221 at the Pearl Brewery, the latest spot to throw its name into the hat of beer businesses that offer growlers. Unlike or in some cases like the other growler spots, it blends well into the lofts at The Pearl Brewery, where residents live in. It is small and sleek. There is a gate that you enter by the side. Inside it is part sports bar and a watering hole for the residents here. Alongside the wall there is a chalkboard with a list of beers, accompanied by prices. There is a decent list of beers on tap, the usual suspects like Stone, Oskar Blues, Karbach, Victory even an offering of the Prairie Artisan’s Bible Belt; a must for beer nerds. The prices for beers are reasonable, especially in this high end area of the city. The vibe inside this place is both lively and laid back. Although I did notice that a great deal of the patrons here were residents of the lofts, it got me asking. Is this a place implicitly meant for the people that live here or does it extend itself to the greater city at large? On the patio there is ample space, with chairs and tables to match the ultra clean façade. I noticed patrons carrying on small talk with their beers in tow. Another person brought in their well behaved pooch who laid next to them. A group of dudes sporting Spurs jerseys were crouched on seats, with their dates catching the playoff game on the overhead TV’s. Again, the GS has a laid back vibe and is above all relatively quiet. It is the perfect place to carry on a conversation or meditate about nothing. While I thought this place was pretty cool I left with a couple of issues, the 1st one being the service. When I went to place my order for a drink, a server behind the counter just stood there chatting away with a patron. I kinda expect that type of service at a place that serves Budweiser but not at a spot that purports beer with a discipline. Luckily another server(who was excellent) stepped in and picked up the guy’s slack. As I have said this time and time again your servers reflect and sell your spot, Period! Ultimately they set the tone at any business. We don’t have to be best friends, but when I stand point blank in your focal point and don’t have a drink in my hand, well I’d like to have one. Another issue is the parking here. There is really none. On the side of the place there are a few spots but the food trucks take up potential parking spaces. If you want to meet up with a group of friends my suggestion to you is to carpool and try to find a spot not taken by a resident, visitor or patron. The GS1221 is the latest entry in the plethora of places that offer craft beers with the option to take a growler home with you. It is small, sleek and laid back. The prices for beers and growlers are reasonable, especially for this particular area. It does seem like a good addition to the Pearl Brewery. It is a good place to hangout with friends or a date for a beer. ps. Later this year a new growler space will be located by The Big Hops. Hmmmm. Let’s keep the growlers overflowing not overflooding!
