I work night shift, and thus, after a long, busy, night at work and you just wanna let loose but it’s 7am… where do you go? Here. You go here. There’s usually a crowd or two in the early mornings of night shift workers from the two hospitals nearby. Taryn is the bartender in the morning, and she’s awesome — super friendly and upbeat although she works 6 days a week, super duper morning shift for all of us needy night shift nurses. She always makes sure to learn everyone’s names and is familiar with everyone’s regular orders. They serve breakfast and lunch all day, last time I went I had brisket tacos which were just mouth-watering delicious. No waitresses, just Taryn and the cook, so either they’ll bring it out or one of the members of our party will turn into a part-time waitress for a little bit. It never bothers us. Our food always comes out fast, hot, and delicious. The only place for shots this early in the morning, and Taryn makes them good and strong. We love sitting out on the patio on gorgeous mornings. Far too often I’ve stayed longer than I should and have been around for the lunch crowd to start to come in, and that’s usually my signal to head out. Laaaast time I went, the new morning bartender was working instead of our usual Taryn. The new girl was a little… spazzy, overwhelmed, and definitely did not hide it. But it was only her second day. Hopefully she improves.

Ugh. So I tried to find a redeeming quality about this place, I really did. I met up with some girls from work for Friday happy hour. None of us had ever been so we were looking forward to trying something different. It was definitely different. A/C was out, took forever to get drinks, unwelcome attention from other patrons and staff blaming each other for poor service. I arrived a little bit after everyone so was forewarned about the slow service. I ordered a margarita on the rocks. It took about 15 min for the drink to arrive and when it did there were black, unidentifiable specks floating in the bottom. Awhile later she brought me my new Marg. Willing to give it another go, I took a sip and immediately wish I hadn’t– it tasted like a cigarette. I ultimately ended up drinking a shiner bock. It was fine, but let’s be honest, it’s hard to mess that up. It was only $ 2.50 so there’s that.

I love this place. Laid back and very chill. Their food is pretty good, but I dont think the cook I like works there anymore. He was amazing at making a burger! Cheap shots and drinks. Good music. Jukebox to pick your own style. Pool tavle towards the back. Karaōke sometimes. All in all a very good place to come and have a few drinks with friends. I will definitely keep going back :) oh yeah, the waitresses are really nice whenever I have gone.

TERRIBLE!!! if I could rate this place with no stars I would !!! Staff is terrible and slow. I ordered a drink and it took 25 min just to get it, I ordered the daily special and 15 min after the rest of my table got their food I politely asked the waitress if my order was going to be out soon and she asked what I ordered, I repeated it she then went to ask the cook and she came back and said the cook never got my order so I had to cancel since we were on our lunch break. My husband ordered a blue moon and after 25 mins she finally brings a beer that had been sitting on the counter the whole time and it was the wrong drink and she says«oh I’m sorry I forgot what you had, it’s just been one of those days» she also pounded a few beers while working. I also ordered the tenders and they were raw. Horrible food and horrible service. And the waitress Julie’s outfit was disturbing !!!

My BF and I went on a Friday night to have some drinks with some other folks. I wasn’t really hungry but after looking at the menu I decided to order anyways. I’m glad I did because the burger and tots were actually really good. I love the taste of grilled beef and it was cooked perfectly. I don’t like cheese on my burger but I wanted to try to mushroom Swiss. After the first bite I peeled the cheese off and it was just as good. The tots were soooooo good and crunchy. Yes, I’ve had terrible tots in the past. The place was loud and the service just mediocre but the one man band was cool as hell. I think he was from Scotland and played like 6 difference instruments. His Bob Marley«No Woman, No Cry» was the best. One of workers(not our server) even came and brought us shots. I would return if I was in the area and wanted a good burger.

I love this place. Great burgers, authentic cheesesteak. One caveat: I grew up in dives. Most people would classify this as a dive. To me it just feels like home. Excellent prices. Good service. Perfect tots. Every so often I dream about quitting my job and buying this place. I’m always happy here.

Good place to sit down and have a nice cold Michelada or even just relaxing with a beer and the crowd. I do not recall having any of their food though. I will for sure keep coming to Highlander since their drink specials are pretty good ;)

This place has ALOT of potential. Clean it up! Sweep the floors, take down the cobwebs, refinish the tables and go back to an English/Scottish pub feel. Take out that jukebox that plays rap to Marvin Gaye. Burgers are ok… Would be better if the meat wasn’t frozen, pre-made patties. Service was really good.

I give this a one star only because of the cheap beer. The furniture is broken, the«fried jalapeño burger» was from a frozen patty and pickled jalapeños(grilled). Server was less than pleasant. Roaches were climbing in the wall in the restroom. True dive for singles over the age of 50. First and last time I come here.

Got BOGO coupons from«Enjoy the City». Man… this place is great. Good jukebox. Good food. Good outdoor patio. Good staff. Good crowd. It can get wild at the Highlander, in a good way. Open for breakfast, full bar too! AWESOME!

We hit this spot up in the morning after work for breakfast and bloody Mary’s. The bloody Mary’s are awesome — perfectly spicy. The bartender in the morning is always working by herself and she does a really good job. Somehow manages to wait on a full Bar and tables, and quickly. The Mexican candy shot is also TODIE for– a little spicy but sweet… I could take 10, but I won’t(again) lol. Breakfast tacos are on point… but I’ve yet to try the barbacoa it’s only available on Saturday. I’ve tried a lot of the other food like the French toast is good pretty standard, the omelette was delicious with lots of choices, fried mushroom are great and I definitely recommend the chili cheese fries! Great morning place for drinks :) the atmosphere changes into wayyy more of a dive bar at night, so be ready for karaōke… and bring your leather.

Lunch is always very tasty… Lunch specials Monday thru Friday Jalapeño Cheeseburger is extra filling and you will not eat for the rest of day. Grill Chicken is what I am eating today… health good. I also get grilled chicken salad with Italian dressing… big salad!!! Nachos are amazing with everything on it… chicken, beef, beans, lettuce and tomatoes… good for 4 people. Drinks and service is the Best!!!

This place has the best micheladas in town… hands down! Just right, they don’t taste like tomato soup, you have to come in and try them for your self and they might not have had the best service in the past but they have a friendly staff and great drink specials that make up for it now… not only that but they added new hours with delicious breakfast tacos… better then chuy’s greasy tacos up the street. The four star instead of five is because of it doesn’t have the best hygiene… let’s leave it like that. Other than that they have a great sound in the place that have a variety of updated music!

So a large group of me and my friends decided to hit this place up for our #1 stop on St. Patrick’s Day. We didn’t want to bother with massive crowds at Sherlock’s, or the Irish Pubs so we came here. I got here first, sat at the bar, it took me about.15 minutes to even be noticed. Finally one of the staff noticed me, took my order and off we went. I got a Grilled Cheese and fries which were really good honestly. I was not impressed with any beer choices which were basically your regular Bud, Miller, Coors, Sam Adams, Shiner, Angry Orchard, etc. He came back a few times to check on me, but as my group started getting there, he stopped coming and we had to go wait in line up front which took forever. We tried flagging our bartender down a few times, and they would just ignore us. My friend ordered food, and he was literally yelling at the one bartender that it was his; she delivered it to two other people(who gladly took it BTW, and began EATING the food they DIDN’T ORDER). So we had to get new fries. I should mention, they had two bartenders(TWO for St. Patrick’s Day…), behind the bar, and two roaming around up front and they always catered to their own staff before the others. It took me and my friend about 10 minutes just to close out. They have a nice set up; bathrooms are small and downridden IMO. They have a nicely sized outside patio that we would’ve used had it not been raining all night. All the tables inside are for 2 – 6 people at max. They had a jenga set up on a small area which is cool and a pool table in the back. They have a jukebox that played top 40s all night. I thought about putting $ 20 in and playing Irish music, but wasn’t that interested. The crowd mostly seemed to be a bunch of regulars. Likely, I won’t come back here. It took us quite a bit to get drinks and shots and I know at least one of the bartenders was trying his hardest; but after watching the other bartender I was less than impressed. I may come back for lunch or dinner(before it gets crowded), because the food we had was spectacular.

Wow, my first time here. Apparently it’s been here forever and I just never knew it existed. Kind of cool. It’s actually really big inside and I love how it looks like an old wooden house inside. We ordered a couple appetizers to go with our happy hour drinks and they were okay. Typical bar food. Nothing to write home about. The waitress was nice and never let our drinks run low. The bathrooms were tiny though! Hard to maneuver around in those tiny stalls. Lol.

This is our go to place after a long night working at the hospital. They are 1 of 2 places open this early in the medical center area. Great breakfast tacos, but if you are not in the mood for tacos ask for a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, bacon and ham. It’s not on the menu so be sure to ask! Taryn is the usual morning bartender and she’s great! Friendly locals and hospital workers are always there.

Was savoring my delicious mushroom burger with maximum meat flavor and everything was going swell until I noticed my expired cider. Although it was only 10 days past expiration and I didn’t notice any taste alterations, nor did I get sick I’ll let it slide this time. But they still charged me for it, not cool! Proving again why the Ice House reigns supreme.
