We’ve been picking up Janie’s mini pies almost every Saturday at Pearl’s Farmers Market since moving to SA in June. We’ve tried apple, strawberry rhubarb, pecan fudge, chocolate peanut butter, bacon pecan(yes, BACON) blueberry, 4 berries, peach, cherry, & chocolate raspberry chess. Can’t say we have a favorite because we love them all! We even ordered a strawberry rhubarb cobbler for a dinner party. It was a hit with everyone! So get yourself to Pearl on Saturday! For specific orders & casseroles, call Janie & pick up at the Nacogdoches Road address.

Lady(Janie?) was super nice and attentive, VERY accommodating/helpful. Pecan pie: Good crust, very good flavor/authentic pie, however, there was more filler than pecans. Totally disappointing. Had the portion/ratio of filler to pecans been more proportioned, 5 stars. Apple pie was pretty good.

I was in San Antonio for a conference a couple weeks ago and was recommened to Janie’s Pie Factory by a friend and I’m glad I listened. I told my cabbie to stop on by after my flight landed and I purchased two pies, apple and blueberry and loved them both. I brough the apple back for my coworkers and everyone agreed it was the best apple pie they had ever had! Such a great treat for me to visit this cute little shop while I was in town for a couple of days. The place had just a few employees and you can see them making the pies right there when you walk in! I had a fun time trying to bring those pies back through security at the airport but I made it! I wish you shipped your pies to CA!

We were in San Antonio for my son’s graduation from basic training at lackland AFB. We Unilocaled best dessert in San Antonio and found Janie’s pie factory. My son chose the famous buttermilk pie in addition to the 4 berry cobbler which was also delicious. The buttermilk pie was amazing and he was able to eat it for 2 days! He went back to base and told his friends to get to Janie’s before they ship out! Janie’s really made our Airman happy!

Hands down best pie in the city. Normally, these pies could only be found at Janie’s store, or a small selection at Madhatters. Now Janie has a booth at the Pearl farmer’s market selling«baby janes» which are $ 6 mini versions of all different flavors. Yes, small fudge walnut pie please. Of course, whole pies can be ordered, and I would suggest placing that order early b/c her pies sell out every year.

My husband and I stumbled upon a «pie» sign en route to Whole Foods, and we had to go in. I loved the shop as soon as I walked in. We met Janie and talked to her fellow baker. They were so sweet. We picked up two small apple pies for my best friend, who actually asked ME to make one for her, but I wasn’t going to make it in 100 degree heat. Plus, I don’t believe apples were in season. The pies were still cooling on the rack! We also tried their chocolate walnut pie which had already cooled a little earlier. I’m a little partial to a Dorie Greenspan chocolate espresso pecan pie that I make every fall. This place reminds me of a grandmother’s kitchen or a small town bakery. So cute and homey. We tried the apple pie and upon her assistant’s recommendation – the Fredericksburg peach pie. The crust for both was so tender and had that beautiful, trademark«crimp» that you see in cartoons and in TV commercials. The fillings were perfect – not too sweet. The peach one was on the mushy side, but only because I think that the peaches were ripe and just picked. They gave us menus and kept on telling us to come back or phone in our orders, as their offerings change daily based on availability of ingredients. I can’t wait to try their other offerings.

Wonderful pies — too hard to pick a favorite. Buttermilk? Blueberry? Chocolate walnut? My husband loves the upside-down apple. We served an assortment of Janie’s pies at our wedding instead of a traditional wedding cake, and everyone loved them. Mad Hatter’s was voted Best Desserts in the Current’s 2011 Best of San Antonio Reader’s Poll — Janie makes their pies. Also great casseroles.

awesome pies. i don’t even like apple pie that much but i like hers. the others i have tried are also exceptional, but try the upside down apple for a special treat. not cheap though — a pie is going to cost you north of $ 20, if I am not mistaken, but it definitely a long step up from what you get at the supermarket. only downsides:(i) no credit cards, so make sure you bring cash and(ii) no real seating, it is more just a take-out type place.
