Absolutely horrifying. It is my humble opinion that this is the worst place in all of Fort Sam Houston to get food. Yes, it really is that bad. Being forced to eat here is not something I’d wish on anybody. The only reason I’m not giving it one star is that the area around the café itself is actually pretty cool. I mean where else on base are you going to find an arcade complete with DDR machine? But step inside the café and it’s just dreadful. I can’t believe they allow such a place to operate on a military base. I’ve been here on two separate occasions. On the first time, I bought a Cobb salad for $ 6.50. I just picked it up from the refrigerator and started eating it while waiting for my sandwich to be prepared. The salad was terribly stale, as if it had been sitting there for days on end, and didn’t fill my stomach in the least. If anything, I felt hungrier after eating it. What a way to throw $ 6.50 down the drain. The tomato basil sandwich(also $ 6.50) that I ordered would be okay… were it not for the simple fact that it took forever to make. I had to check back on the guy making it numerous times to make sure that they actually acknowledged it, but I also didn’t want to annoy the guy making my food. There’s no reason they should have taken so long, and the sandwich wasn’t even that complicated, so I’m wondering why they needed to take their time with it. My second visit to this place was arguably even worse. Of the three things I ordered, only one didn’t go horribly wrong. The Java Club sandwich($ 6.25) was okay this time, but that does not excuse the cheeseburger from being so minimalist and yet so expensive. It cost $ 4.50 and consisted of two buns, a patty, and some melted cheese sloppily tossed together. It probably came out of the microwave, too. There was nothing else to the plain cheeseburger; even at McDonald’s you could get more complete sandwiches for a dollar. Check my pictures if you think I’m making this up. And the fruit cup that I got for $ 2.75 was just… ugh. Apparently, fresh fruit is too much to ask for at this place. As are competent service and decent food.

Situtated within the confines of the Sam Houston Community Center, this café offers indoor seating and an outdoor patio. The prices are fair and the employees are awesome! Even the equipment they use to make the coffee is officially from Starbucks. Foods such as salads, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, fries, hot dogs, and other goodies are available as well.
