King’s Hwy Brew & Q is located in a renovated old house, on the North edge of downtown. You’re likely to drive past 2 or 3 times before you recognize it as a restaurant rather than just another home in the neighborhood. It doesn’t have a big sign, and there is no parking lot(find a spot on the street — and good luck with that.) Walking toward the front door you’ll negotiate an eclectic collection of tables and chairs, a unique variety of plants and trees, stones and pottery. When you finally enter the building you’ll be met with instructions to walk to the end of the hall and turn right to enter the bar and place your order. If you get to this point, you can then finally relax and enjoy the funky art work and furnishings at one of the indoor tables or in the chill outdoor seating. The food is a reflection of San Antonio tastes — part BBQ and part Mexican. The brisket is flavorful and tender as are all their meats(including pulled pork, shredded chicken, and pork belly) the verde sauce is tangy, and the cilantro is fresh. The borracho beans are truly drunk beans — taste them and you’ll see. You can order all their meats by the ¼ or ½ lb, in an American«sammich» or Mexican torta, or as street tacos. They even serve a mean Sunday brunch. Next time you’re in the mood for something different, funky, cool and very very tasty — check out the Brew & Que.

Kings Brew n Q really hit the spot! The BBQ is perfection and their beer selection is top grade! With so many other tacos spots around i’m glad they figured a BBQ joint is needed in 5 points. Yes the portions are small and no you will not be disappointed with the flavor. We sat at the bar during a slow 5pm evening, the bartender Leslie was friendly and attentive with much knowledge of the business and food. She answered all questions and even asked the chef a few questions I had. Let’s start with the basics, their salsa. I’m a salsa freak and this one was drinkable straight from the portion cup. It’s green tomatillos, garlic and some spices — not spicy but just as delicious. Be sure to ask for more with your order. The street tacos came 4 to the dish: I opted for the cubed brisket and pulled pork. Both were equally satisfying with and without salsa! The brisket had an amazing smoke flavor with little fat but was still as juicy. Be aware they are street tacos so don’t expect to roll out of here on a full belly. The borracho beans are something else! You can taste how long these beans were simmered. They sold me at cilantro. but they also added bacon and Lone Star beer, of course the beans were amazing. I wish they didn’t add so many cherry tomatoes. And yes, a «small» portion at $ 1.75 is quite surprising, its basically a glorified shot glass. Small portions but great taste! Will return for their $ 12 bottomless mimosas on Sunday with a DJ in the backyard. Can’t wait to try their brisket caldo, I’ll keep dreaming until then.

Damn good food but the portions are a complete joke!!! Went with 5 work buddies for lunch as I suggested this place looked good based on Instagram pics. The food did not disappoint but it was hardly a tease for the price. The portions were no where near filling us up. If they up the portions, this place will be competing for the best bbq in town. As of now, they’re not.

Rejoice! For those of us who are bbq aficionados and don’t mind the short haul to Lockhart for some of Texas’s best bbq, you can now save that gas money and spend it here. This place is located where the old Taps Y Tapas used to be. While San Antonio has its share of bbq joints, some good, some mediocre, til now, there hasn’t been one that I would say rivals Lockhart, the Mecca of bbq. From the pit, they offer briskest, turkey, chicken, sausage, pork, all sold by the weight If you wanna«sample» the goods(chicken, pulled pork, pork belly, and brisket), order the street tacos version of these, either individually or get cuatro pack — only $ 6 for 4. Both times we’ve been there, we’ve ordered«flights»(you can order all of one protein or mix and match). That brisket. Damn. Perfect balance of smoke, bark, tenderness, juicyness. That chicken taco was great, think of fideo seasoning but on chicken. Yassss! The pulled pork was outstanding, shredded pork that was seasoned, not covered in sauce, which facilitates that porky, smokey flavor to protrude to your soul. Pork belly taco says you? Ridiculous. This one is a must. Loved the bark and smokyness of this beautiful, juicy, piece of meat. Truly worth fighting/ending a relationship over the last taco. Pork ribs were just amazing, made with sweet tea. I’ll just let my photo talk to your taste buds. Borracho beans — slightly spicy yet a ton of flavor. And you can still taste the beer in them — truly borracho. What else? Beer, duh. What else would go better with bbq/tacos than beer? Craft beer to boot. Great selection. This place is going to put SA on the bbq map.
