I have a confession. I tried Kogi with my best friend a few weeks ago. I ordered the Kolbi Ribs and to be extremely honest, I came back three more times that week! I absolutely love Kogi for their fast and delicious Korea BBQ. While some have noted that their ban-chan is not nearly as authentic as competing Korean restaurants, I’ve learned that they are extremely sufficient for accentuating my meal. I add the fried egg to my Kolbi because EVERYTHING is better with an egg! I recommend the Korean Fried Wings, Bulgogi, Kolbi, spinach, and turnip kimchi sides! I’ve definitely become a regular here and I don’t plan on changing that anytime soon!

I’ve been to this place many times. I always order the bi bim bap with beef. I do wish they would provide the banchan(small dishes) with all meals. You can ask for it and it will cost $ 2 more for all eight of the banchan dishes. Most Korean restaurants provide that. There menu does have some fusion dishes like spicy pork tacos. I usually come here for dinner and it is never busy so good comes quickly.

Great Korean pancake and bulgogi! The service as really good as well as the selection of alcoholic drinks of you are looking for that. I had the cha chae and it was very good.

Wish I could like Kogi more. It’s close by and very rarely busy. I went a few years ago and really disliked it. I thought I would give it another shot and I’m sorry to report — I probably won’t go back again. Unless someone else is paying. What kills me is I do like their seafood soondubu jigae(soft tofu stew). Its kind of hard to mess this up and they gave me a ton of seafood. I like the clams in their shells, all the squid and deveined shrimp. There’s a lot of tofu and the egg is freshly cracked so you can mix it in yourself. I wish it came to me bubbling. I think soondubu should be burn-your-tongue bubbling when it arrives. My dish came with rice and a measly 3 sides. This is the absolute worst thing about Kogi. The banchan are fixed and you only get 3! With a $ 14 stew, I expect at least 6 delicious side dishes — with refills! I like it when the sides are different each time you come. That way it’s more exciting! And it would be forgivable if the sides were out of this world amazing but they were not. The kimchi was sooooo salty! And the cucumbers bland. The tofu cubes were not spicy enough and so unsatisfying. Kogi calls itself fusion but they do fusion a bit off here. Especially that Korean pancake(or flapjack on their menu). It’s doesn’t resemble anything like the Korean pancakes I’ve had at other Korean restaurants. And it tastes the worst! It’s just fried dough. I will say customer service here has always been very good. I’ve never come at a busy time so I’ve never experienced any sort of wait and the staff have always been helpful. Overall, the soondubu is good. But $ 14 is way too much for a regular sized stew with only 3 side dishes. At Seoul Market Café off Wurzbach, the soondubu is delicious, arrives bubbling in a piping hot dolsot, comes with 5 rotating banchan and steaming hot rice– and the best part, it is only $ 6! It’s further away but I’ll make the drive if I’m ever craving soondubu again. Also– Seoul Garden is a mere minute away from Seoul Market and Café. Seoul Garden’s enormous soondubu is only $ 11 and comes with a ton of banchan, hot rice and hot tea. Both places are infinitely better than Kogi.

The bulgogi burger from here was delicious and a really innovative take on Korean fusion. An egg cooked just right for this burger added the flavor of bibimbap and the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend them for a quick and delicious dinner, and they even deliver to the local area!

We had the opportunity to finally enjoy some Korean food here. I like that the lunch menu options are available on the weekends. I gave high ratings due to the overall quality of food and service. I usually complain about Korean food being hit and miss in San Antonio. We have a couple of places we will go to(Chong’s is NOT one of them). The taste and size of the cheese puffs(crab rangoons) was good and worth buying again. We had your standard beef bulgogi dish and the portion that was served was good and the taste was really good. I’m used to getting all the sides as part of the meal but the lunch portion allows for selection of 2 sides vs the dinner portion allows for selection of 3 sides. If you want all the sides as part of your meal there is a $ 2 charge to have them all. The price for each plate was very reasonable; it’s actually a good deal when you compare their prices to other Korean restaurants. I liked the taste of the Kim che and bean sprouts that I ordered, I’m sure the other sides would have been good too. We don’t usually travel to that side of town but if we find ourselves traveling on that part we will definitely stop by and enjoy the Galbi and Tofu Soup next time!!!

The best food I’ve had in San Antonio. The kimbap was great. The kalbi was succulent and served with rice as it should be. The korean fried chicken(sweet and savory) is the best I’ve had, period. Better than New York. Service is fast, folks are really friendly, and the place is really affordable compared to any other Korean restaurant I’ve been to. I’m looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. The only thing it’s lacking is Korean sodas like Milkis.

Two visits here with my have left me thoroughly impressed. Not to brag, but i have a korean fiancé to justify this review! Things i have ordered here: 15 piece KFC(korean fried chicken) in savory and spicy flavors. $ 16 for dinner, $ 15 for lunch service. Each piece was sizable and one order could probably fill up two people with smaller stomachs. Flavors were bold. We asked our waiter for extra sauce, which just made it 6x better. Seafood pancake and kimchi pancakes: the components of the seafood pancake is one kimchi pancake topped with shrimp, fish, and octopus. Not really traditional nor worth it in my opinion to add the seafood. The kimchi pancake itself is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. It’s more flour based and less packed with kimchi/veggies inside as some authentic places, but still good. Galbi(short ribs): Get this! Super tender, savory pieces of thin cut rib covered in sweet soy sauce. Tofu soup: Very good. Served in a stone bowl and stays HOT for the whole dinner. Spicy and savory– good to share. The bonchon(side dishes): you get to pick two for every main dish you order and they are bottomless. I love the radish and egg! Service is attentive and considerate. I came in a party of 6 on a fairly busy night and felt that nothing was left to be desired. Give Kogi a try– it’s worth a shot to come in open minded!

Lots of great lunch specials that run daily from 11 – 3 starting at $ 6.50. I’m a fan of the Gangnam style street tacos. Try the salad with spicy chicken or bulgogi in place of the standard grilled chicken. Helpful, friendly staff(especially Dominic) always ready to make dining suggestions. Every time I’ve been there have been several regulars in the dining room.

Another outstanding lunch at Kogi. This time with my wife. She’s not real adventurous with Asian food, so she was a little hesitant when I asked to go to Kogi. She had the Kimchi burger with beef bulgogi. She was extremely happy with the flavor and level of spice. She kept commenting throughout the meal how surprised she was with how much she liked it. And the iced tea was very fresh, which seems to be hard to find at SA area restaurants. I had the beef bibimbap. Added a little Sriracha on top to kick up the spice a little. Turned out to be perfect! We were having a late lunch, so the restaurant was not very busy. Service was great. Food was outstanding, again!

So if you’re wanting authentic Korean food, this is not the place for you. Banchan(side dishes) is limited options, not refillable, and comes as sides for your entrée. Food is decently Americanized, which I didn’t think was possible. I’ve just tried the bulgogi. Vegetarian friends have enjoyed the japchae. So it tastes fine, but if you come in with the expectation of real Korean food, you will be very, very disappointed. Not spicy at all. I have eaten here a few more times just because of proximity. It’s the only Korean option near the medical center. Otherwise, service is always very nice and attentive. Overall, I would mention this place to others if you’re looking for something close to the medical center. However, I would recommend making the drive elsewhere for much better Korean food.

If you have no interest in Americanized Korean food, please read no further. Thanks for stopping by! A couple of red flags: 1) No Koreans in sight. I’m talking about guests, host, waitress, and chef. 2) One can only select 3 banchan(Korean side dishes) to accompany your dish. Traditionally, several banchan are served +/-refills. Not the case here. 3) French fries are on the menu. C’mon man! I ordered the yuk gae jang, a spicy shredded beef soup, with the key word being spicy. This soup had NOSPICE whatsoever and I was really disappointed. For my banchan I ordered the kimchi, radish kimchi, and bean sprouts. Good Lord those bean sprouts were way too salty. And of course both kimchi completely lacked Korean red pepper :( The only positive I can think of was the service: our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Save your stomach space. You can find better Korean food elsewhere in San Antonio.

I’ve been coming here since I moved here in August 2014. Not that long ago. I always order the pork belly plate with all the different sides. The Kim chi is really is here. It’s the best I’ve had. I’ve recently tried be bim bop and the pancake appetizer and a few other things. Basically everything I’ve tried here has been wonderful. Every dish is a absolutely delicious. I’ll be heading here later. Will post a pic later. :)

I’ve been on a quest in San Antonio for the best bibimbap… which has been disheartening thus far… our city is sorely lacking in good Asian food! Wah! BUT, I quite enjoyed Kogi! We strolled over there after seeing a movie at Fiesta Trails… the restaurant is simple, modern & comfortable. Our server — Dominic — was great & obviously eats there often as he made good recommendations. My favorite was this smoky spicy sauce that he brought to our table… I doused EVERYTHING in it. Ask for this amazing sauce… it takes food to the next level, y’all. The yaki mandu was good… you get a choice of 4 or 8… each one is quite large, hearty, & very crunchy. I’d order it again. The bibimbap was very nice. For my meat, I chose the beef bulgogi — not the best I’ve had in town & certainly not«shining star» enough to order the bulgogi plate, but a few pieces in the bibimbap were a nice addition/texture. As usual, the egg yolk was HARD. Grrrr. I politely asked Dominic for another egg — soft boiled. He delivers. I enjoyed it — including the hearty dousing of aforementioned smoky spicy sauce — down to the last bite. My friend ordered the spring rolls — meh — pass. He also ordered the beef bulgogi plate — meh — pass, again. I’d definitely return for more yaki mandu and bibimbap! This is my go-to joint for now… Btw, Kogi offers take away & delivery!

Let’s just cut right to the chase… Things That Were Impressive: 1. The white rice cooked properly. 2. The ice water abundant and was adequately refreshing. 3. The servers are legitimately very nice people. Things That Were Not: 1. The portion size with regards to the price. 2. The ability to cook a log of fat and salt into each of the 3 dishes we ordered. 3. The food quality. Yuck yuck yuck. Most people could cook better blindfolded with their tongue wrapped in cellophane. Swerve on this one, folks. Really.

I had ddeokbokki and chicken chap chae when I came here, and it was so good I almost killed for more. My friend had the beef bi bim bap, and she was totally in love. Although this Korean restaurant is very Americanized, the food is still very delicious. If you’re looking for an authentic Korean restaurant then this might not be the place for you.

This review is going to be sized just right and perfectly suited — just like my experience at Kogi Grill Those that know my reviews, know how I love a strip mall experience that isn’t strip mall experiencing. This is one of those places. Now, the bar is strip mall sized… but I wasn’t here for the booze. The food is PHENOMENAL! I did vegetarian on this occasion, so it was chap chae with no meat. Lovely. My hubs had the lunch special chicken bulgogi(spicy) and it was equally fab. I am so glad we have a decent little Korean joint to call our own. My hubby already labeled it our«go to» place.(but he has to fight me for Phở). The service was outstanding. Their computer went down and they were correcting our bill(mistakes do happen), so we had to wait. The owner was very nervous about it all, but we were in no hurry on this lazy Sunday. It’s allllll good. TIP: Try the lunch specials! You know why? Because they are perfectly proportioned! The price fits the plate, and you leave full and doggie bagless.

There seems to be a real divide among reviews of this place, most of which are concerned with whether it is an «authentic» Korean restaurant or more of a Korean«fusion» place. I’d been wanting to check it out for months, so I finally took the plunge. I kept things simple for my first visit: the old stand-by, beef bulgogi. It was pretty good! The beef was sweet and very tender. I also particularly enjoyed the kimchi. It was considerably more sour than I’ve had at other places – almost like sauerkraut. That may not be authentic, but I really liked it. I was, however, disappointed that there were no refills on the side dishes. That’s one of my favorite things about going to a Korean place. So is Kogi authentic? I don’t really care. But it’s a pretty nice place, so I’ll probably be back to see what else is on the menu.

This review is solely for the food. We received good service from our waitress. When my friend told me there was a Korean restaurant opened nearby I was so excited to try this place out. Walking in, I was pleasantly greeted by the sweet aroma of Korean food; however, that was pretty much the only pleasant aspect of my visit. I knew this experience was going to be bad once I saw that you could only select 3 side dishes. Anyone who’s been to a real Korean restaurant would know that there’s usually 4 – 5 side dishes and you can typically ask for refills. I tried to push this thought aside and ordered pork bulgogi as my main dish and chose the kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and turnip kimchi as my 3 sides. Imagine my surprise when they brought me this plate with a cup of rice, a small serving of pork, and the sides… yeah I got 5 tiny cucumbers. I’ll even post the picture of my food so you can see for yourself that I’m not exaggerating. The food itself was so disappointing I couldn’t even believe I paid $ 10 for tis meal. The meat was a little bit burnt and the sides didn’t have any taste to them at all. I looked at my friends food and he ordered the beef bulgogi. Usually bulgogi comes with the bone, but his food looked exactly like mine. I think the thing that irks me the most is the price. How can you charge $ 9.99 for soondubu and the charge $ 2.00 for the meat that goes inside? I don’t really understand. If the people who own this restaurant are Korean… they’re doing it all wrong.
