I had the shrimp and grits and fell in love. No beer but they have wine and liquor. Good service also.

Kinda pricey, but great food, atmosphere and service. We’ve been going for over 12 yrs now and will continue for many more to come. The service is always excellent. Courteous wait staff and hosts. The caramelized cauliflower with cashews is amazing. I don’t even like brussels sprouts, but the sprout and bacon hash is a must. If they have the sea bass please do yourself a favor and try. Crème Brulee amazing and the seasonal coconut sorbet to die for. Also, very important… best margaritas in town. No. they really are. They cost about $ 15, but they’re worth it.

This place was the only restaurant at the river walk that had prices that matched the quality of the food. Went here for breakfast and was impressed with the menu and the buffet offerings. They have an omelette chef to make your breakfast to order. I got the eggs Benedict which was superb. The service was really good despite it being packed and the décor was classy. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This is a excellent choice for a relaxing brunch. They have a breakfast buffet that ends at 11:00 and brunch begins! Breakfast is 22.00 per adult and brunch is around 42.00 per adult. But the brunch selection is substantial! Lots of choices, including a bread pudding which is my husbands favorite! The staff was professional and efficient! Very enjoyable!

Amazing service! I came here for Lunch on a Tuesday afternoon when I first got into town. We didn’t realize that it was closing time for lunch at 2pm, wandering in the restaurant at 1:45. We asked if it was too late for lunch but they promptly seated us outside on the patio, didn’t rush us, and provided an excellent lunch for two very hungry tired out-of-towners. We started with the Smoked Gonzales Texas Mushroom Bruschetta which was excellent– the bread was crispy, the mushrooms were delicious. Then we both had Three Beef Short Rib Tacos. So tasty The food was some of the best I had in San Antonio. So glad they stayed open late for lunch for us! I couldn’t have asked for a better first meal in the city.

Ok, let me start by saying that we really missed the boat here. I read about the brunch, and I’m sad that we didn’t make it on time. We did however make it to a really wonderful lunch. We brought our newly minted airman here on town liberty and let’s say that none of us left disappointed. I had(shared): — ceviche — brisket tacos — brisket grilled cheese Other people in our party had: — shrimp and grits — chicken wrap Personally, I really enjoyed everything I had. The ceviche was probably the best I’ve ever had(though, I’ve not had much of it). The tacos were delicious, with good southwest and meaty flavors. The grilled cheese was excellent, from the savory cheese to the(I presume) homemade bread. The service and the décor was also really quite excellent. I wanted to give this place 5 stars. Something is holding me back, I’m not sure what. It was really excellent food, but nothing I would come back to SA for specifically. The prices were(as advertised) on the higher end. And with that, the portions were not too big(which some people prefer). All in all, we had a really excellent meal, and I would definitely return.

Today I ate lunch at Las Canarias, one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio, and the image of perfection built up after several visits starring delicious dishes and phenomenal service was crushed in a single lunch hour. From the moment we walked up the steps of the outdoor patio, we should’ve known to turn back. The waitress servicing outside turned her head toward us and called out, «Be with ya’ll in a sec,» with the least bit of attentiveness. When she came back, she didn’t offer guidance, just instructing us to take the stairs and see the hostess. At the host desk, we ignored a second indication of negativity. The hostess ignored us to help a couple walking in after us, and then brushed off my fiancé’s question about where to leave our stroller by waving her hand in the direction of the door. We should’ve taken that as our cue to walk out it, but memories of impeccable food called our instincts to question. At this point, I asked the hostess if the restaurant chefs are the same chefs who cater hotel weddings, since our reason for dining today was to let our best man get a sneak peek at the venue and sampling of the food. We have already paid the deposit on a December wedding. With this nudge, she moved to set our table, though I still can’t figure out why she chose 2 adult and 2 child menus for a table of 5 full grown adults and toddler. Was she just not paying attention? After being sat and bypassed for about 5 minutes, Raquel showed up to ask for drink orders. Coffee, 2 teas, lemonade, and a half½ to the latter, she cocked her eyebrows before correcting the order to an Arnold Palmer. She skipped over our daughter, so my fiancé added a small cup of water after. Another staff member, Mari, brought our drinks while Raquel moved on to another table. She returned to take our order a few minutes later. Again, she skipped over the little one and we had to add her meal as she started to walk away. 25 minutes passed. 25 for a pre-set lunch menu meant to ease the kitchen workload, in which we watched a couple near us who had ordered just before us receive their food, eat, and leave. 25 at a «4-diamond» restaurant. We were patient. I took my daughter for a walk and was greeted by friendly hotel employees and wished happy Mother’s Day as we explored the courtyard where our future ceremony will be. Thank goodness the quality of service had not seeped out the restaurant. We returned and then finally, our meal arrived. 2 brisket grilled cheese sandwiches on focaccia, bottoms soaking wet in grease as though they had been sitting out. A chewy pasta dish with overcooked veggies. Tacos. A plate of oily shrimp and grits like we had never seen before(though we’ve ordered this here many times). A child’s quesadilla with the most adorable tiny bowls of avocado and salsa. The best tasting item on the table would have to have been the fries. This meal made us extremely concerned about the food at the wedding, which was a factor we had not worried with since we chose this venue based on the restaurant. We might have mentioned the food to Raquel, but she never checked on us. A manager in slacks and purple shirt stopped at a table where 2 employees were enjoying lunch, asked about their food, reminded them to have dessert, not realizing that nearby customers had not received the same service. I tried to flag him, but he left quickly, ignoring customers around his stop. After lunch, we waited for our check. One of our guests poured ice from her empty cup of lemonade into water, and I realized my coffee had been refilled but no other drinks on the table had been. Raquel dropped off checks and as if she read my mind, asked if anyone needed drink; «More water? More Sprite?» My fiancé, frustrated, answered, «We’re about to leave.» I added, «No one here had Sprite anyway.» Raquel turned around and pointed at a guest replying, «She did.» …I was stunned. Did she just incorrectly attempt to correct me? I can tolerate a bad day in the kitchen or a bad service; everyone has their bad days… but a waitress who argues with me? Our guest informed Raquel of her mistake as I sat, mouth open. Time to sit down with the Catering Manager and review the list of staff, an unforeseeable circumstance at a 4-star restaurant. The only person who defied the norm today was Mari, who exchanged smiles with our daughter, recognized her impatience and our expressions, and apologetically delivered a small plate of cookies to her after lunch. I don’t know what happened here, but this was in utter opposition to any dining experience we’ve had, and disappointing now that we’ve already chosen them to cater our wedding. I reached out to the Catering Manager via email to rectify the situation, in hopes that this past 5 star will not stay a 1 star on my rating system until December. It would be nice to have a positive experience fresh in our minds before returning for the most important day of our lives.

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. We were recommended this spot by a local. I ordered the chicken wrap which came with chips. The chips were really good — tasted like sour cream and onion kettle chips. The wrap was good, but nothing really stood out. Nothing signature about it that would make me crave it again. It was very simple, something I feel like I could easy make. The entrance to this place was also very confusing, if you are not on the river walk. You have to go into the area in front of the hotel and go all the way to the left. We were very confused because there was a sign for the restaurant out near the street all the way to the right. Ambience appeared to be very classy. White tablecloths and the inside was very quiet — no music, could hear a pin drop. Felt very awkward so we asked to sit outside which was much better. Overall, would eat here again, but would try something else. Ideally would like to come back for the breakfast buffet that looks delicious!

If you’re looking for a great brunch spot in San Antonio, look no further. I’m a huge bruncher and I consider myself a brunch connoisseur. This place is fantastic and one of the best brunch buffets I’ve ever had. So many delicious options to choose from, the desert is amazing, and there was even someone making bananas foster(my first time having it and I think it may be my new favorite desert). Grab a spot on the patio overlooking the riverwalk, if you can.

I have no bad things to say about this place. Everything was excellent. The mimosas were great and the service was 5 stars. My wife had the French toast, a must get she let me have a few bites and it was not enough I have been thinking about that French toast all day. I had the San Antonio breakfast also a must! It was so flavorful and filling. Overall one of the best places we stopped at on the river walk and we will be back.

Very nice upscale place for breakfast. The breakfast choices in the Riverwalk area are limited mostly to the hotel restaurants. We tried Las Canarias on our third day in town and enjoyed it so much, we came back for our last day. The setting is elegant, white table cloths, silver, subdued and tasteful décor, and soft music, service is good, and the breakfast fare is very good. I had the standard breakfast the first day and an omelet the next time. Both were very good and served on piping hot plates(yay). Coffee was excellent and they have the usual choices for juice. The Orange Juce tasted like real juice. My over-medium eggs were perfect, solid whites and slightly runny yokes. The omelet was light and fluffy with the ingredients incorporated into the egg and pleny of cheese tucked inside all nicely gooey and melted. They come with breakfast potatoes. Service was attentive, but leisurely. Luckily we were not in a particular hurry. The buffet breakfast, served every day, is $ 22 and looked very good with custom omlets included. Meals are pricy, $ 50 for three people, but worth it for the quality of food.

My wife and I visited from out of town and came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Everything was fresh. Everything was authentic. The wait staff were well-trained and competent. Beautiful brunch buffet with a gourmet omelet station, thick french toast, fresh berries, pastries, cereals, and the eggs/bacon/potato standards. It reminds me of a cruise brunch. Impeccable service, and nice quiet atmosphere. While the brunch was very ‘American’ it has a nice Tex-Mex flair, with the addition of a few select ingredients(like chorizo, mmmmm.) Generally good value for the price(and being right on the Riverwalk.) I don’t know that I would go out of my way on a regular basis, but a nice spot to take out-of-town guests for a leisurely brunch before embarking on the tourist Riverwalk route.

I’m gonna let you in on a(not so secret) tip. If your objective is to do a stretch of San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk but don’t want to fuss with limited metered parking and the hassle that comes along with trying to find parking, you might want to consider stopping by Las Canarias at Omni Hotel for a quick breakfast/brunch. You might ask, «but what if I don’t want to eat here?» Well too bad. I’m not gonna help you out with that one, you’re on your own. Look, you’re gonna want to do Riverwalk early anyway before you get irritated by San Antonio’s weather(primarily when it’s hot), so trust me on this. Besides, you gotta have breakfast, right? It’s supposed to be the most important meal of the day(or so it’s been said). But why Las Canarias? Three words: Complimentary Valet Parking. That’s right folks. If you dine at Las Canarias, parking is free with validation! And their breakfast ain’t so bad either. I was gonna go with a breakfast entrée but when you consider the price of their entrées to be a mere dollar or two less than their«Art of Breakfast Buffet» Las Canarias makes the choice a no-brainer! Art of Breakfast Buffet($ 19.95): 4⁄5 If you’re a professional AYCE(all you can eat) kind of guy/gal, you might find Las Canarias’ buffet selection to be slightly underwhelming. I found it to be sufficient for my gluttonous adventure. –Here’s what’s available to you: Fresh Juices, Assorted Breads, Danishes, Croissants, Gluten-Free Station, Butter Bar, Selection of Cereals, Sliced Fruit, Berries, Fage Greek Yogurts, Texas Lucky Layla, Organic Stony Field, Sun-Dried Fruits, Chef Prepared Cage-Free Omelet’s made to order, Chilaquiles, Breakfast Potatoes, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Country Breakfast Pork Sausage Links, Blueberry Sage Sausage Patties, Texas Cut Cinnamon Raisin French Toast.– I loved their blueberry sage sausage patties quite a bit! Their omelette station was pretty awesome as well! The omelette chef chatted with me the entire time while I waited for him to whip up my egg white omelette. He was such a nice, humble man. Don’t forget to tip him! My buddy Mathew M and I sat outside facing Riverwalk. This provided excellent people watching entertainment and allows you to experience Riverwalk while filling your belly. I had a great time waving at all the tourists floating by as they were seated in their boat. ;) Our waitress accommodated us every step of the way. Even though San Pellegrino was not included in buffet pricing, she comped us two large bottles. Now that’s great customer service. Next time you want to do the tourist thing when you’re in San Antonio, check out Las Canarias at Omni Hotel. Its strategically located and their breakfast offerings will satisfy. Did I forget to mention complimentary valet parking? ;)

I was hungry after the Asian Festival meeting. Since I was downtown and felt like splurging, I went here. The breakfast buffet is $ 20 and includes juice and coffee. The buffet is quite abundant: omelet station, a couple of types of scrambled eggs, potatoes of at least two types, French toast, sausage and bacon, cold cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt and an assortment of fresh breads, including bagels and muffins. Oatmeal while not out on the buffet, is part of the buffet, just ask your server. They serve Starbucks coffee. This is a pretty good buffet.

If you have never been to San Antonio, even though everything is labeled, it’s not very clear as to what and where it is. The wife and I thought we were going to a spot the locals go to. But it turns out to be in the Omni Hotel(La Mansion). Food was great, service was great!

We hit Las Canarias once for dessert, and twice for breakfast. Let’s start with the breakfast — probably the top quality breakfast buffet I’ve been too. The chilaquiles were quite tasty. The sausage was good. Fresh and dried fruit. Made-to-order omelets. Pancakes one day, french toast the next. Really a nice breakfast buffet. The second day, a couple of the gals split an order of pancakes(blueberry?) — they said they were very good. Service was outstanding all three times — attentive, informed, well done! re: the desserts — The crème brûlée was so-so — the burnt sugar was too thick. The chocolate cake the others ordered was apparently very nice.

So, this place was recommended to me. We went for the Sunday brunch. In one word: overpriced. Food was good, but nothing that had a ‘wow’ factor. Atmosphere– ehh nothing special. Service was good, but nothing to write home about. It was like being at a continental breakfast at a hotel. They just fill up coffee, juice. No real courtesy or service. This leads me to my other issue– I was never told there was alcohol? No offer of morning adult beverages? No mimosas or bloody Marys? Not offered for sure– I only know they serve alcohol because I heard it offered to another table as I walked out. Annoying. Overall an sub par experience that is overpriced.

UPDATE: my previous review was for Rosas Mexican grill or whatever. This place actually looked really cute and the menu looked amazing. I SHOULD have taken my family to eat here on the river walk instead of the other restaurant. Five stars because the manager contacted me immediately to rectify the problem. That is a sign of outstanding customer service and shows this restaurant deserves your business. I will definitely try it out on my next visit to the river walk.

My experience at Las Canarias’ Sunday brunch made me truly question my loyalty to the Omni brand. Having had excellent experiences at Ostra, the sister restaurant on the Riverwalk, I decided to try the much talked-about Sunday Champagne Brunch. The experience was most likely one of my top five worst experiences I’ve had dining at any hotel restaurant. Table Management — 1 Star — I arrived roughly two minutes early for my reservation and i was told that the table was not ready at the time. 12 minutes later, I approached the hostess stand and spoke with a manager and he assured me a table was being prepared. He pointed to a two-top being prepared directly adjacent to another two-top that was already prepared. Service — 1 Star — I hoped the service and food would make up for this minor shortcoming in table management, but I was wrong. The server was friendly but the least bit attentive. She was trying to manage a 14-top and we were delegated to a table visit every ten minutes or so — usually when our dirty plates were waiting on the side of the table for a few minutes. The service did not improve through the hour and a half we were seated, and only got worse when trying to pay our bill. That 14-top decided to pay all separate, which occupied the server for another ten minutes while we waited to pay. Food — 3 Stars — The quality of the food was average for what would be expected for a buffet-style brunch. Nothing close to spectacular as I would have expected from a 4.5 star average Unilocal reviewed establishment. We were about halfway into the brunch service, but there were several dishes left near empty — the meat and cheese bar and parts of the dessert bar. I was hoping the raved-about bananas foster station would make up for some of it, but I was equally disappointed. The server making the bananas foster either was not trained properly or didn’t really care as the bananas foster was poorly prepared with clumps of brown sugar uncooked in the dish. I know most people reading this will say, «what do you expect from a buffet?», but if I am paying close to $ 50 per person with tip, I would expect good quality of service and food. Neither of which I received from this establishment. On my way out, I tried to speak with a manager, but he was off handling other customer complaints and I did not want to wait around even longer to speak with him.

La Canarias is a restaurant in the Omni La Mansion del Rio at the riverwalk in downtown San Antonio. We were a group of 11 who were in from a conference and came in to have a nice dinner and catch up with each other. The place was perfect for us. The place allowed us to just hang-out for awhile after dinner as we enjoyed our company. They had a Chilean themed menu which everyone seemed to enjoy. I had the scallops and my wife had the Chilean bass which we both loved. We had their Tres Leches for dessert which thought was a bit dry, but we still enjoyed. They have a decent wine list and a well stocked bar. What really mattered was the service. The staff were great. They were very accommodating and treated us as true guests to their place. Being a big group we were probably a bit noisy. A few of us had some quirky requests and they had to go back and split the bill among the 11 of us who were there going Dutch. Our server handled it graciously and took care of it. We really had a wonderful evening. Great food with great company makes for a wonderful evening.

We went on a Friday night and got seated right away, outdoors with a view of the river. It was very nice, waitstaff was excellent. They were out of the NY strip steak which was a little disappointing. My husband got the organic chicken instead which was quite moist and well cooked. He cleaned his plate so he must have liked it! I got the chicken tortilla soup which was made differently than I’m used to, but it was still pretty good. The dish I liked the most was dessert! Crème brûlée with 2 lavender cookies and half a strawberry! Hit the spot! Prices were about what is expect, definitely not cheap but at least the food was good for what it was. I understand most of the reviews are for their breakfast/brunch, so hopefully this helps folks that are there for dinner.

The quick 30 minute brunch we had here was as good as it gets. We were running short on time so this was the first place we ran into after arrivin at the River Walk! The view outside of the restaurant was amazing, even in this heat wave, it felt really nice sitting outside under the tree and feeling the river breeze. The service was very quick. We ordered some orange juice, the brunch beef tacos and a sun dried tomato pasta. My tacos were fabulous! The beef was so juicy and tender. There were also jelepanos, pickled onions, cheese, and a giant piece of fresh avocado! There were three decent sized tacos which was enough to fill me up. My friend also really enjoyed her pasta! Even though the price here is a little high, the experience was very well worth it. Everything was great, especially the food! Definitely recommend everyone to stop by if they get a chance!

I had an early dinner reservation at Las Canarias and was nicely greeted upon walking in by who looked to have been the manager. I knew I was off to a great start for the evening after seeing so many smiling faces on the workers. The restaurant itself is very romantic looking and has a great view of the riverwalk if you’re lucky enough to score a table by the window. My waiter was very nice and attentive. He started me off with an amazing Artisan Greens salad(without the cheese). The salad was divine. I would order this again and again if ever in the area due to the exquisite sherry vinaigrette, the thinly sliced pears, and the fresh greens that all mixed so well together. For my entrée, I ordered the Pan-Seared Salmon, and it was to die for! The salmon was cooked perfectly, at medium. It was one of the best pieces of salmon I’ve had. The mojo verde sauce was so delicious and paired all too good with the potatoes and green beans. I can’t say enough about how much I liked this dish. The only things I didn’t like about this restaurant were the old smell that the place had, as well as the knats that were flying around my food at my table. Other than that, I liked Las Canarias and I will most likely visit it again if in town.

I’m shocked this buffet gets so much praise. We decided to have brunch here based on the fab reviews while on a girls trip during fiesta. We were promptly seated since we had a reservation and offered coffee and juice to start– we only wanted coffee, but both servers that were at our table kept asking about juice– no thanks, like I said, just coffee. Do they have a juice quota to meet everyday? So we jumped up and bypassed the omelette station since there was a line. I never saw the bananas foster station all the reviews raved about– super let down. We stopped at the berries and noticed the blackberries were moldy– so they don’t wash the berries. Ew. So we started down the line, cold cereal, scrambled egg/cheesy/hot sauce casserole stuff, cold potato, pre made pancakes, and mini pastries. We got to the cute little mason jars of fresh sweet cream butter and almond butter and there is hair in the butter, all around the knife and with little chunks of butter dangling. *gag* So we had the knife to the manager along with our plates and say no thanks. This is in an Omni hotel– I expected more.
