I saw the feature on 101 places to eat, and Lulu’s was on there in the top 25 for the giant cinnamon roll. Well, I love cinnamon rolls. I called my nephew who lives in San Antonio, to see if he had hear of Lulu’s. I asked him to go by there and get me a giant cinnamon roll which he did. He said the lady gave him instructions on how to store it so it wouldn’t get hard after unwrapping it. It was the size of a cake which is how it looked on TV. I couldn’t wait to dive into it. I was a little disappointed in how it taste. I was expecting more cinnamon and sugar through out the roll, for the size it was lacking, however, it was good eats. When I go to San Antonio I will go to Lulu’s to see for myself.

Unassuming exterior with sweet gems inside. The chocolate caramel flan cake was fantastic! Moist decadent chocolate cake with well made flan and a caramel sauce. The tres leches had nice flavor but was drier than I am used to. The plain cheesecake was really good. Very nice guy served us with a smile.

I’m not from the San Antonio area and was traveling on business. I am a foodie and even though I’m not overweight I’m very fat at heart. I ventured to this bakery after dinner one night and tried a piece of the tres leches and the piquino. Although both were good I would recommend the tres leches over the other. It was very milky and moist and had an excellent texture.

After driving past this place a million times, I decided to stop in. The inside area in simple, one open fridge and one closed fridge to hold the small to go cakes. We were greeted by Mariana and she was helpful in explaining all the cake flavors and options for my sons birthday party. I looked through her book of cakes she’s previously made and all cakes look great. I was impressed to see something different, a literal cupcake. Mariana layers the tres leches in a clear plastic cup with a cute circular business logo. I looked very cute and I thought was a great alternative to having to slice up and serve a cake at my sons upcoming party at Kiddie Park. There’s a menu board that shows the flavors of cakes and prices. We left with three to go cakes, lemon, tres leches and pinquino. My mom and husband loved the lemon cake. I’m not much for lemon in general, but the cake and frosting had a nice texture. My favorite was the tres leches. My husband and I shared this and during the moment of cake sharing my neighbor called. After the phone call, I went back to this piece of milky heaven only to find my husband left me a tiny piece :-(. So this ensures my return to Mariana’s. The tres leches had a great milk soaked cake and a light and fluffy whipped topping. It was delicious and after each bite I wanted more! The pinquino was ok. There was something about the taste of the chocolate that made my husband and I look at each other in question of what made this chocolate taste differently.
