Went at lunchtime. We had good service, not crowded, and the food was sooooo delicious. Learned that two glasses of wine is a wonderful lunchtime idea: p.

Spent my evening at Max’s for dinner. Not too happy with a few things. I sat outside and several tables were dirty not cleaned. The cushions on the seats outdoors had several stains on them. The meal that I ordered was not to my liking. I ordered chicken piccata and have had that meal at several restaurants. Max’s does a horrible job at making and serving the chicken piccata. Terrible meal to have there. Additionally I had a glass of water that carried a stench of dirty mop water. The waiting service was decent aside from my meal taking too long to come out.

Server was rude and had attitude especially after I mentioned the discount(from the check-in on Unilocal app). After mentioning it to her several times bc I was concerned about the timing of it and had never used it before, she managed to forget to add it to the bill. I have a gut feeling she purposefully left it off and did not expect us to read over the bill; either way, she was rude and never offered an apology, did not get my order correct, and never smiled once. The food was alright but overpriced. I would NOT recommend this place and will NOT be returning. I had been wanting to go there for several months too and am sorely disapointed.

Cool vibe and design. Really good food. Service is slow and not very attentive. Would eat here again for sure but hopefully won’t be there for 2.5 hours

I want to start with how great their patio seating is for Sunday brunch; I loved the atmosphere. Their brunch menu was wonderful, so many delicious options to choose from. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles because I wanted to try a classic plate of theirs. They have a lot of other dishes that I will definitely have to come back to try. We had a great waiter who always came outside to the patio to offer us any assistance, even though there was no one else seated at the patio at the time. It just stood out to me that the waiter went out of his way to provide service to us. For their drink menu, my friend and I shared a bottle of champagne which came with assorted juices for $ 25 to make mimosas. We were able to get 8 drinks out of it total which is a really great deal because their mimosas are usually $ 5. I recommend getting the full bottle of champagne, the price varies depending on which bottle you choose. It comes in a bucket to keep on the table so the bottle can stay cool.

Celebrates my birthday here! This place was super yummy! The best part is the manager walked around with the pitcher of water the whole time! This made drinking wine easy!

Fave place to brunch in San Antonio period. Get a bottle for your mimosas, chomp down on some breakfast and listen to classic rock. You can’t go wrong here!

What a great find on the Zagat app. This is a great wine bar with a twist on southwestern flair. We had the fried chicken sliders with a chipotle honey drizzle. Sooo good. Great wine selection. The servers know their wine and what pairs up with the food they serve. Will definitely going here for happy hour again real soon.

I gave it three stars because our server started out great, and I understand I was apart of a difficult table(my mother and her older friends who are very picky and take forever to order). The food was pretty good, but the wine selection was overpriced for the wines they had. The manager was a very nice, man, too. I would have given this a higher-starred review, but when it came time for our checks I looked around for our server and when I saw him, he was drinking wine. I don’t really care that he was drinking wine, but it’s the fact that it was clear as day in the restaurant. I think the place was better when it first opened, but the hype doesn’t match the prices. Too expensive for standard selection and service.

I was pretty excited to try this place out. I didn’t know it was reservations only or you would be totally judged and banished to outside seating. My water that was brought had a lovely thick brown curly hair in it mind you my hair is blonde and thin. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken had great flavor and was amazing. I’m used to a more flavorful waffle but it was still good. My boyfriend had the roughnecks breakfast and it was kind of rough. Dried out biscuits with jalapeños tastings things thrown everywhere. I just don’t think we got the normal experience. Kinda disappointed

We were here for dinner on a Friday night with a group of 20+. Our server Ryan was excellent and that girl was ONIT! We had fried chicken sliders/fries and the hubby had the fried chicken dinner. Very good! Management and staff very friendly. We will definitely be back!

I can’t say I was blown away by this establishment. The reviews are good and the menu sounds very interesting but the service and ambiance were only average. I came here for a heathen’s breakfast on Easter with my family and got to experience their brunch menu. The restaurant itself was very casual and the parking lot was hard to navigate. The dining experience was good. I wouldn’t call it great though. For having so many servers, I was surprised how little they were doing. They all seemed to just be standing around. The food took a long time to come out but I saw that this was a common complaint that most diners had. I do appreciate slower meals so this wasn’t enough to make me unhappy, it is just something that people should know before choosing to eat here. The brunch menu had a lot of interesting sounding dishes that were very rich. I went with the chicken and waffles and thought it was just good. I know American food doesn’t normally have many big and bold flavors but I just felt like this dish was lacking something. I would probably go for one of the more savory dishes next time I try this place. Overall, the food was good and the service was average. I can’t say I am dying to go back but there really isn’t any reason not to try it again. This place was a very casual bar that had some interesting sounding menu items.

Max’s for Brunch, YESPLEASE! I had the Famous Southern Fried Chicken, the amazing Mac & Cheese and an orange juice mimosa. As always the wait for the food was 30 mins or more but it was delicious as always! The waitstaff was very professional and polite. This may be apart of my new weekend routine! GREATEXPERIENCE!

Food here was lovely. The Pork Shank was delicious — portion was ginormous. Great wine selection and a cool vibe. Sat at the bar and it took 20 minutes before I got the attention of bar tender for a drink. Service was very slow and we eventually flagged down a lady who may have been the manager who took our food order. Really nice lady who brought us over a comp desert at end of meal. I would try the place again but probably get a table for better service

Amazing waiter! He matched my taste with the perfect red wines as well as the pair of Brie to go with it. Food was amazing and the manager was top notch!!! Come check them out! A+!!!

UPDATE: Went back for another brunch! This time I had the wings and waffle. The wings were super juicy and had amazing flavor, and the waffle had really good texture to support the chicken. This was y first time trying chicken & waffles, and Max’s did not disappoint!

Patio weather !!! Great brunch !!! Roughnecks breakfast was awesome !! Pancakes were ok for sweet tooth but don’t think I would order again. My friend ordered Frito pie omelet that was delicious. Ordered a bottle for our mimosas.

Came in with a group for a birthday brunch on Labor Day. Wish I had gone with my instincts and ordered from their standard menu rather than their featured seasonal specials, as we were disappointed with most dishes. FRIEDEGGSANDWICH: The older members of our group went with this tame choice, with the truffle aioli and lettuce/tomato served on the side. Not sure why lettuce and tomato have any business on an egg sandwich, but neither of them cared for the truffle aioli so the deconstructed presentation was a good call. This was plated with house truffle chips, which the whole table felt were overly salty. DRUNKBREAD&CRAZYEGGS: This sounded better than it actually was. A couple of poached eggs in a spicy sauce, with a thick crust of bread lining the ramekin. I liked all of the flavors but this was disproportionately heavy on the bread. Maybe ask to add another egg if you chose this dish. FRITOPIEOMELET: This sounded amazing but fell flat. There were eggs, Fritos, and chili, yes, but not in a way that lent itself to a comparison to the namesake dish. There was a small amount of tasteless white cheese(inside the omelet only, none on top) used instead of the classic shredded cheddar. Didn’t finish this. BLACKBERRYCOBBLER: A decent-sized portion, served in a skillet, that was nearly all fruit rather than pastry or topping. After a couple of bites, only fruit remained. Tasty but odd. MAXETJACQUESPINOTNOIRFUDGEBROWNIE: Served hard and room temperature instead of warm and fudgy, this was fairly one-note in flavor save for the Brindles Italian Berry crème fraiche, which was the saving grace. The port ganache topping also lacked flavor. WHITECHOCOLATEBANANASFOSTERBREADPUDDING: The bread pudding itself was perfectly cooked, and the sweet cream ice cream was lovely, but the«Kraken rum-salted caramel sauce» was sparingly applied and tasted nothing of rum, whose notes would have significantly elevated this dish. Our server was a great guy, when he was around– he seemed to spend half of his time helping customers at the bar while attending to a full load of tables. Restaurant appeared to be short staffed and no one was manning the hostess station. We saw a few different groups up ask to speak to the manager about service or up and leave when they weren’t attended to. I still haven’t tried their namesake mac and cheese or shrimp & grits, so perhaps one final visit is in order? The food at this point is almost irrelevant as the ongoing service and staffing issues are preventing potential customers from even trying what comes out of the kitchen.

Came here last Friday evening with the gf at 11pm, wss seated immediately at the bar and received a cpl different menus, the restaurant week specials, the after hr brunch and the regular as well as a humongous wine list, we ordered very quickly, I got the french toast fried chicken, while she had the pork belly tostadas. While we waited on the food, which I can see prepared, we tried to decide on some wine, they were very helpful and knowledgeable about their stuff and even let us try so we could decide for ourselves. We settled on a champagne for myself and she got a white. The food came out prompt with extra jalapeño syrup as requested and man o man, get the chicken really nicely breaded and the french toast is no joke either, thick cut texas toast nicely done up and the syrup is delish! Go immediately for it! I know imma go back and get some

So, I know better than to NOT get something a restaurant is known for… but for some unknown reason, I still try to branch out… Max’s is known for their Fried Chicken… Seriously… Fried Chicken… with wine or champagne… But noooo… I had to try something different. I shouldn’t have. Period. I started with their«blue chips» appetizer… «potato chips smothered with truffle mornay, blue cheese crumbles and house smoked bacon»… Max’s was doing a special where you could do this on Fries or Tater-Tots instead… Being a über-lover of tater tots, I tried it… I shouldn’t have. The«truffle mornay» was like a Brazilian creamy cheese with no flavor. I didn’t get any hint of blue cheese and the bacon was non-existent. The tator-tots were crispy golden yumminess though! The high note at this point was the«Happier wine» on their happy hour menu… Le Vigne Toscano. YUM! Fruity, but dry, not too sweet and very pleasant finish. Loved it! For my entrée, I ordered(no, not the fried chicken, but… wait for it…) the Shrimp and grits. Terrible… There’s no other word for it… I couldn’t taste anything but the«spicy butter broth» that was terrible. The shrimp were okay… but the rest wasn’t. The high note here was the second glass of the«happier wine» Le Vigne Toscano… I did also have a small Cesar salad, which was COVERED in finely grated Parmesan cheese… See the pictures… it was«eh»… and DONOT eat the Parmesan crisp that is on top… it was stale… So, take my advice and go with the house specialties! NOT impressed with the other options I’ve tried here. (and NO, I don’t eat ALL the food I order… If it’s worth eating, it goes home with me… if not… well… sorry).
