This is a fantastic addition to Hemisfair Park! The Mexican government sponsors these guys some how to come to Texas and teach about Mexican culture. I love the giant Olmec heads out in front of the place. Great photo op! Inside, they crank that a/c, so it’s a very welcome respite from the roasting heat that San Antonio and Mexican cultures can both appreciate. They show all kinds of interesting, thought provoking art across all media. The art usually centers around a theme about Mexican heritage, or cultural pride. They show movies in the upstairs auditorium, or sometimes live concerts. The exhibits rotate out periodically, and you’re always in for something new and different. There are nice restrooms in here too, which can be welcome in Hemisfair Park. I highly recommend checking this place out to learn more about how Mexican culture is such an integral part of San Antonio’s past and future!

The Mexican Cultural Institute features rotating exhibits focused on artwork or artifacts that represent Mexican culture. The space really lends itself for art with stark white walls leaving all of the beauty and attention to whatever artwork is displayed. Wood floors pick up whispers and all footsteps of art onlookers. The building is in Hemisfair park, a neat space in and of itself that is always a great space for a slow walk or some sitting time in the shade. I attended the San Antonio Film Festival here in 2010, spending the entire evening watching films on the Frida Kahlo screen. Not so much a screen as a film projected onto a wall, but a fantastic venue none the less.
