Cash only… FYI… It’s a small spot that sits on the corner. I’ve passed it for months not realizing what it was because the signs much older and if you blink you’ll miss it. The staff is kind, food is good and prices are reasonable. I had the turkey, green beans n yams!

Worth the drive, no matter where you are in SA — great food fantastic value. Reminds me of BBQ shacks my Dad used to love when I was growing up. He would love this place too but he lives in Asia. I had the ribs and beef combo. Ribs were spot on. Beef was sliced very thin and I think a tiny bit dry — still very awesome but not absolute best I have ever had. Good selection of sides too. Sauce was thin and tad sweet — very good sauce.

I had been meaning to try Mr. J’s Bar-B-Q for some time. Last week I read a top 10 of BBQ places in San Antonio and Mr. J’s was listed. I made it my mission to stop by and did so today. I chose one of the daily lunch specials(the brisket plate, 2 sides and a drink). I consider it a bargain at $ 6.99 including a drink. I chose tea and there were free refills. So, how was it? I really liked it. I ordered the potato salad and some pinto beans. The serving size was the volume you’d serve at home if you are hungry. I finished the food and was more than satisfied both with the taste and the amount served. The neighborhood around it may not be Boardwalk or Park Place on the monopoly board but I felt welcome and happy to discover another San Antonio gem of a restaurant. Yes, I will be back! So, who was there while I was there? At lunch time, it was police officers, blue collar workers and me. A wonderful group of folks!

Nothing to write home about. The pulled pork is actually chopped and, when sandwiched, comes on a soggy bun with very few onions/pickles. The briskett is done extremely well with a good smokey flavor. The sides(mac/cheese, pinto beans, cornbread stuffing, and potato salad) are all bland and boring. I was hoping to find a hidden bbq gem and instead found a medly of monotonous options. Stear clear of everything but the briskett.
