You stand in line to order. I didn’t have much time to read the four specials. I just knew I didn’t want pancakes or huevos rancheros. So I ordered the one I thought I misunderstood. A plate of beans and potatoes with two tacos, your choice of potato and egg, chorizo and egg, or bacon and egg. Seems a silly special. You want potatoes with more potatoes? They would not deviate from those choices, and the line was growing restless behind me. So I embrace the silly, and order potato and egg and chorizo and egg. I figure I get to sample more breakfast taco staples this way. Pro: tortillas taste hand made. The potatoes were tasty. Con: I asked if the chorizo was substantial, and not just chorizo flavored egg. The order taker seemed annoyed by my concern. I gambled and lost. It was worst than chorizo flavored egg. It was eggy weird tasting mystery meat. Something I could not put my finger on. But, chorizo was not a top guess. I’m chalking it up to cheap chorizo. The beans were tasteless, and I was distracted trying to figure out what heck was in overly eggy«chorizo». I accidently touched someone else taco, because they called my number and the plate up there did not look like it matched my order. Because it wasn’t my order! These whose order it was made comment about strangers touching his food. He’s right, but his comment should have been directed at the counter people. Plus, his order looked better than mine ended up looking. Verdict: The other panchitos, with the wait staff, is worth the drive away from this place.

Ok let first start off by saying yes this is not the best looking restaurant and yes from time to time there may be an insect issues. With this being said this restaurant has always been a staple for me since childhood. It has come a long way from what it used to be many may not know but it is the founder of Pericos restaurants around town. The food and tortillas have always been that same great taste. This is one of the pride of the Westside restaurant. Just be open and give it some love.

The place is always packed. I liked the food. The only thing I didn’t like was that they put the food on the counter waiting for it to be picked up and people are sticking their nose in the food. Sometimes their hands. It can be hard to find a table since it’s always full. But the food is good. Beans are spicy. Rice isn’t that great. Do yourself a huge favor and try the menudo.

Good tacos! I came here for the first time with someone that has been coming with his family since he was in diapers. Great atmosphere.

I do not eat here at all after I had their bean and cheese tacos. The beans have an odd taste… The staff is rude most of the time I have gone and they’re always busy(like super busy) the lines are so long even when you order for pick-up. I don’t see anything special about this place that I’d wait in line for food I think I can get at any other Mexican restaurant. I would’ve given this place zero stars only if I could…

We’ve been coming to this place forever. The food is usually good and the prices are very affordable. Some days the food is off as is the service and waiting time for food and other days they are spot on. So it’s kind of a gamble when we go in as to whether it will be a good experience or not. As for the food, I love anything that has cheese on it. They use that good tasting, melty cheese here. Carne guisada is usually great – savory and tender, but I’ve had it a few times were it wasn’t. The enchiladas are tasty as well. They run a monthly plate special which usually consists of a plate with two or three varieties of food offerings, rice, beans, tortillas and a tea for $ 6.95. They also have breakfast and lunch combos. As with the food, the customer service can be a gamble as well. Some days they are quickly taking orders and smiling. While other days they are carrying on a conversation in between taking orders and showing off pictures on their phones. The bussers are quick and efficient and have starting offering to refill our drinks and bring our orders when our pagers go off. The dining area is large and there’s often a bustling crowd, but were always to get a table as people move through quickly. The parking lot is huge and there’s an overflow parking lot across the stree as well. Overall, it’s quick and affordable and we meet my mom for lunch here as its less than 5 minutes away from where she works, so we’ll be back soon, flipping our coin in the parking lot, hoping its a spot on day.

The best damn tortillas ever! This original Panchitos is better than the rest of it’s spin-offs, in the north side. Very authentic Tex-Mex. I wish I would have came back sooner to eat there again, but will be eating here on a regular basis.

get the fiesta plate with chicken… there’s no cheese or starchy sides! the plate is seasoned with onions and peppers. probably around 9 – 10 points, determined by how much chicken you have on your plate and the beans.

Want really gr8 Mexican Food without the fluff? Step inside! I warn ya, there is no wait staff but do stand in line(s) and take a gander at their fantastic menu. Gr* prices gr8 food and you’ll be happy when you leave. There is no alcohol so you walk in hungry and waddle out satisfied. Unlike the Northside where they do serve alcohol you’ll never know how good the food is until you try it sober realizing it’s over priced & overrated. They aren’t many food establishments that have been around since the early 60’s as there are in the West and South sides from downtown. When it comes to authentic Mexican food head West my friends and order to your hearts’ delight. The tortillas, flour and corn are homemade and fresh. If you prefer to get loaded before you eat never knowing it’s real flavor then stay up North. We really don’t care for all the traffic. Credit cards and cash.

Love this place. Great Mexican food at a great low price. Be prepared to stand in line to order and to scan the inside several time to find an open table, because it does get packed. It is worth any wait though.

I agree with Henry. I live literally a block away from this place, and in the vecinty, they do have the best tacos. And, it is alot better than the newer locations that are out there. It is small, packed, sometimes hard to find a place to sit, but when I want a taco and don’t wanna drive too far, this is the spot I go to.

Well the other reviews on Panchitos here are for the really nice ones on the north side. This is the original down and dirty one! I love it, my family and I have been coming here for over 15 years! Before any of those fancy locations were opened and when the location was small. The food is awesome and great prices. There is no wait staff you wait in queue to place your order and then your number gets called out. I highly recommend this one instead of the north side ones because the food is more authentic, MUCH cheaper, and no wait staff means no tip! Awesome place to get some tacos or lunch. Don’t let it being in the heart of the ghetto part of town scare you off. I’ve been here years on end and have never been mugged or assaulted.
