The facility is fairly new but the level of care is in need of improvement. My dad passed away here while on hospice in April. Although he was only there a week there were many things that caught my attention. Residents that are not mobile on their own are basically left alone all day. When my dad was first admitted I had to ask to get him pillows, water, and his meds after several hours of him just waiting and nurses chatting at the nurses’ station about things other than patient care. One day his air bed was deflated and he was crying about his back being on the metal bar. I told the nurse and was told it is designed to shape around his body. I told them the pump was not working and was then told it was hospice that was responsible and would have to wait for them to come. He laid on that metal frame crying while I tried to push the little air that was left around to try and give him relief until hospice came. The night he was passing he had a lot of fluid in his throat and it was never suctioned out. He was gurgling the whole night. They then laid him flat to change him and he started choking and had foam coming out of his mouth and was pouring sweat when they finished. I guess they figured he was close to death so it didn’t matter if he choked but it tore me up to see him like that. I also think if you know a patent is close to passing and family will be there all night then move that patient to a new room. The poor man my dad was rooming with was not mobile and had to hear us crying all night. He hit us a few times because he was scared and started screaming because he had a panic attack. I felt bad for him and it made it hard for us to grieve because we were worried about him. The staff was not but we were. I know nurses are overworked and underpaid just like teachers but you still have an obligation to treat these people like the precious humans they are.
