Simply awful service. Waitress’ are working there butts off during a very busy breakfast shift while the floor manager just stands up front fanning menus and stalking you when it’s time to pay, instead of aiding the wait staff in making sure that customers are taken care of… 1 hour for two breakfast plates…

Eh! Popular place but the more I go to this place the more I am disappointed. Especially at breakfast. Barbacoa is not fresh. Tortillas not soft. Service is lacking. Maybe they are too busy and not enough staff. Man who sits you at table appears burned out. So sad, too bad.

I’m dissapointed and disgusted. The food was cold, the molleja was tough and I had hairs in my lemonade and tortillas. I left my food on the table and left. Never again, this places doesnt even deserve a star.

They locked their doors closed half an hour before their posted closing time. They’re dead to us now.

My other go-to when I’m in the Alamo City. Been coming here for years. Every thing I have ordered has always been delicious. I’m a huge fan of the breakfast tacos.

Tried the flauta plate and barbacoa tacos. Neither the plate nor the tacos were good enough to say I ate well in San Antonio. It’s a shame that the good barbacoa places in San Antonio close early. And a shame someone special to me liked this place.

Excellent breakfast choice. Great food and service. Cozy old Pizza Hut renovated to fit the new Tex Mex interior

Been coming here for years with my mother. Every few weeks, we’ll say«Let’s go to Piedras Negras for breakfast!» We’re greeted as soon as we come in and the service is usually very prompt and friendly. I love the chorizo they use. It’s flavorful and not super greasy, which is a very important balance. Their beans are great, as well as their homemade tortillas(both flour AND corn!). Their lunch/dinner dishes are great as well. Give this place a try. There’s a reason it’s been open for so long — find out why.

The food was lacking today. Ordered the #9 enchiladas with beef fajitas and the plate was hot but the food was room temperature. For the price the Pollo al Carbon is a great deal. The carnitas plate was dry and the meat was old.

I visited this restaurant because I saw the advertised Huevos ranchero & pork chop special. My meal was so so & was disappointed with the greasy quality! I’m surprised this place gets crowed! Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? My option is greasy food is not good food! If I come back, I’ll check out the healthier menu options at lunch time.

Disapointed!!! I ordered the huevos rancheros. Typically this dish includes a fried tortilla topped with a fried egg and salsa on top. I like my eggs sunny side up with the whites fully cooked and the yolk runny. The waiter seemed to understand. But once my breakfast came it was clear there was a lot of misunderstandings! There was no tortilla or sauce! I was served an egg and retried beans. My egg was all completely runny which completely grossed me out. I asked about the tortilla and he brought me some on the side. I asked about the salsa and he brought some on the side. It came with beans which tasted like bean dip! There also was no free refills of soda. The only good thing was the tortillas. I tried my fiancées barbacoa and it was super dry and crusty. Never again will I come here.

Meh! If you have to come here, the beef tacos were above average to good. That’s about it. Stale chips bland salsa equal no Bueno for me. My wife had puffy chicken tacos the chicken was moist and tender but a little bland also.

Just 2 of us… Seated quickly… Then completely ignored for over 15 minutes no contact from wait staff… All the while other people that were seated after us received chips salsa and drinks immediately. Manger finally signaled someone to help us and she says has anyone come yet? Pathetic. And she was rude and didn’t seem to want to wait our table.

Five stars all the way! You see loyal locals at this place all the time. Who doesn’t know about this place? Fresh chips are brought to your table with great salsa. Restaurant is always clean but today I can almost smell the bleach… Waitresses are never new so you’ll appreciate service with the same smiles.

I’m definitely a fan of Piedras Negras. It is a little hidden under the highway and definitely easy to miss, but you will definitely want to stop here if you’re looking for good Mexican food in the downtown area(no tourists like at Mi Tierra!). The portions and prices are great! If you come on a weekend they have a guy who sings and plays the keyboard, which is quite entertaining. I’ve had the tacos, enchiladas, tamales and quesadillas and all are yummy! The only thing is that they definitely cover everything in cheese and sauce. Not exactly the healthiest, but it is super yum! Went here a couple of weeks ago with some friends and they loved it! So glad that I found this place.

It’s said that San Antonio is the land where the Tex meets the Mex. In my experience, most Tex-Mex joints around here lean too heavy on the Tex side of things, hiding their kitchen’s deficiencies under gooey piles of yellow cheese and fat dollops of sour cream. Not here. Piedras Negras is the Platonic ideal of what the marriage of Tex and Mex should be – balanced, relatively simple, satisfying, and dirt cheap. Attention is paid to the staples. The borracho beans are smoky with ham hock and bacon bits. They have a complexity and thickness only achieved through a long, slow simmer. The corn tortillas are just-made, sweet and piping-hot, emitting that rare aroma seconds from the griddle. The Spanish rice is perfect, quite an accomplishment for a side-dish so prone to mush. Each orange grain is singular, yet soft. The texture is rich with peas and potatoes, an occasional Lima bean. Carnitas, enchiladas, caldo de pollo, barbacoa, breakfast tacos, huevos rancheros with a pork chop, $ 5.99 lunch specials, etc. etc. – the whole canon, all of it textbook good. On any given Sunday, you might find me here too, nursing a hangover over a plate of barbacoa and such, sipping at a steaming cup of black coffee, thinking things could be a whole lot worse than this. Notes: Killer $ 5.99 lunch special that changes daily, really busy weekend mornings, corn over flour tortillas, only beer

What no chips and salsa until 1:30 pm … No way … No Bueno!
