Food was ok… fries and onion rings were freshly made and slaw was tasty. If you can get past the floors that haven’t been washed since 1952, the roof that’s going to cave in at any minute, and the gobs of bugs crawling along the window sill… then you’re in business.

The food us as good today as it was in 1979. This is a true do-over. I’ll do it over and over and over again

Ordered the sampler plate as an appetizer. The onion rings were ok. The mozzarella cheese sticks were a little better. The fries were pretty good. The accompanying marinara sauce and gravy were room temperature. Also ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. The plate was huge but obviously sacrificed quality for quantity! There were only about two other parties in the entire restaurant besides us but you would have thought that it was a full house judging by the service, or lack thereof. The restaurant is pretty cool with the feel of a 50s diner with a bar and individual jukeboxes at each booth. The jukebox is the only feature that would bring me back to The Pig Stand. I can overlook many a flaw if I can listen to some decent music while swallowing bland, poorly seasoned, lukewarm food…

Excellent breakfast old diner style! Sit at the booths or snag a seat at the bar! Yes, the place is a dive, yes it looks very old, but folks the food wash relish! My over easy eggs were cooked perfectly, no brown, no scaling, and the bacon was delicious! They even brought me syrup for my homeade biscuits! I would definatley come back. We were staying within an easy stroll from the Emma Hotel in the old Pearl Brewery!

The pig stand reminds me of an old school diner you see in the movie Grease. They have old school juke boxes at each booth, they sell milkshakes, fried chicken, bbq sandwiches and so much more! My experience here was great. Our waiter Monica was the best!!! Come and ask for her if you stop by, she has great customer service skills and always desire we didn’t need anything while we dined in. I ordered the pig sandwich, sampler and the chicken plate. Well not just me but between me and fiancé we ordered all that food lol Food came out quick and was so good. so much food on the plate!!! The amount of food given to you for the price you pay is outstanding. The sandwich had a lot of meat and covered in special sauce which is really just bbq sauce… the chicken was juicy and steaming hot so be careful when taking a bite! Mozzarella sticks had an enormous amount of cheese in it and with the marinara sauce it just tops it off. I will Definitely come back and I definitely recommend this place! Especially around fiesta time… this time gets busy and your right in the middle of the action

I just moved nearby and have tried this place twice; I walked out the second time. Bad service by indifferent servers who don’t care and don’t even know their own menu. And, apparently, the owner doesn’t care either because they never responded to my comments on their Facebook page. Go to Denny’s or IHOP instead.

This was my first visit to the Pig Stand. Interesting back story and great diner atmosphere here. Arrived near noon after a late night, so couldn’t decide between breakfast or lunch. Finally decided on breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were so delicious and a huge portion… 3 large toasted biscuits smothered in sausage gravy. A side of hash browns and some grits completed a delicious breakfast. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. I’ll be back to try the Pig sandwich.

I want to like this place but the service is unbelievably bad– it’s as if no wait staff showed up and volunteers are filling in. The waitresses are slow, the food never lands in a timely manner or uniformly hot– this restaurant desperately needs a professional to run it. A very frustrating experience that could be soo much better with a decent crew. The entire place needs a good cleaning.

The Pig Stand looks to cash in on nostalgia only. Yes, it has that in spades, but it also has a layer of filth. I’m sure that the food was decent 30 years ago, and that’s probably the last time the place was cleaned. I wanted to like it, but I’m hoping to not get sick after eating here.

So I see a pink neon pig: Pig Sandwich… Hmmm intriguing… Months go by I pass it a few times: Pig Sandwich, Pig Sandwich… Ok screw it so I decided I’m going to go get me a pig sandwich. Old school… Real old school former drive up I can see the car hops in my mind back when the parking lot resembled an even surface. Walk in and of course sit at the diner counter. Iced Tea in one of those classic Americana bumpy plastic glasses, you remember! After surveying the pictures in front of my I revert to Wikipedia as I figure this place has got to have a story cross reference their web site, pictures on wall, and boy does it have a story! The short version: first ever drive in Dallas Texas. I say FIRSTEVERDRIVEIN; chain of restaurants expanded. Employee kid starts working there at 13 years old works up to president, hands company to his son and chain falls on hard times. Chain folds… Not this one… Nope long time employee Mary Ann takes over and still runs to this day. So this is like the last of the very first drive ins!!! It’s the last remaining one! Anyway the pig sandwich is pretty good not oh my god, good diverse menu, I think 24hrs. Diner food. Service is fair. Tea is good(it’s those glasses!) I go to pay and I meet Mary Ann since I just read all about her story I let her know I did and she was very friendly. So no need for the time machine just repeat after me: Pig Sandwich Pig Sandwich Pig Sandwich and poof a blast from the past!

I’ve passed this place probably hundreds of times and finally made it in today. It’s like stepping back in time. So much diner nostalgia. I was meeting a friend here for lunch. Arrived about 11:30am. I’d already read many reviews on this place. Many recommended the pig sandwich, cole slaw, fries/onion rings. I decided to go with the signature dish for this place after chatting with our server. Glad I did. Flavorful pig sandwich, tasty cole slaw and the combination fries and well battered onion rings were a perfect sidekick. My lunch guest and I had an opportunity to eat and chat without being hurried out the door. I like that. This is a place with history to it. Super glad I had the opportunity to experience the atmosphere and the food. Can’t decide on where to go? Give San Antonio’s Pig Stand a chance!

Wish I could give it more. I was reluctant to eat here. When we walked in we were greeted by an order I couldn’t pinpoint. The wait staff was nowhere around. There was one couple there before we got there and the waited a while before getting their meal. My husband said the food was ok. I said ok let’s try it. Maybe it will e better than the place looked! The waitress finally came from over in the corner doing idk wut. We order our drinks she left to get them. The jukebox next to our table was dirty and full of food or drink splashed all over the screen. The décor looked old and dusty. It would be nice to c it cleaned and treated as the nice antiques they were. She brought our drinks then took our order. Kinda acted as if she didn’t want to be there. Anyway, the hot chocolate was a packet not mixed well as well as the chocolate milk was also a mix that didn’t have enough mix in it! So hubby ordered an apple juice instead. The food was ok. The cooks were very vibrant and talkative tho. They were in a very good mood and singing. That made us feel a little better. Hubby ate the inside if the pancakes because the edges were tough. My steak wasn’t seasoned like I have had it before but it was edible. The biscuits were awesome tho. They were baked to perfection! Soft and fluffy. And the homemade hot sauce for the eggs was really good as well. It won’t be a «go to» place for me, but maybe just go back to order biscuits for take out!

Neat little place with a good local history. The food was good and portions good for the price. Waitress seemed a little overwhelmed even though they weren’t that busy. Not fast food, but not too slow either. I’d eat there again.

I love the Pig Stand. Go for a malt and the pig sandwich, they’re the best! Every time I come to Texas, I Have to stop here. The inside is delightfully tacky but it truly adds to the charisma of this place. This place isn’t fine dining but it’s so much fun walking in the doors. Oh, and bring quarters, they have table jukeboxes!

Is the Pig Stand fine dining? No, it’s not. But maybe you get tired of that. Or maybe you just want an honest plate of food for a reasonable price. But even if that’s all you want, if you come by the Pig Stand you’ll get more. If you want iced tea, you’ll get a big old glass, as it should be(note, if you want Splenda, bring your own). If you bring a few quarters, you can play an excellent juke box, one that ranges from old time blues to country to Michael Jackson. My recommendations are to come for either breakfast(where you just flat can’t go wrong) or late at night. The vibe seems just right either time.(But lunch is fine too). When I go for dinner, my normal go-to the the Pig Sandwich, which isn’t just like any other sandwich I’ve had. Starting on a plain hamburger bun, inside you’ll find some sliced roasted pork, sweet pickle relish, and a little barbeque sauce. You get a little bit of coleslaw(which I sometimes pile on the sandwich, a couple of onion rings, some French fries. I substitute fried okra for the French fries. Other things on the menu are tasty, but you can get them other places. Each and every employee is a pleasure and make you want to come back. It’s one of my mother’s very favorite places in San Antonio, I think because the food is straight-forward and old-fashioned in a very good way. Oh, and I’d recommend that you look at the desserts, often including homemade cakes, before you order. You’re likely to want to save room for a big slice!

This is a great little diner. I’ve been here twice with friends and a date, and got chicken fried chicken and a club sandwich. Service took a while both times(my only real complaint), but the staff was friendly and the food was great both times. The fries that came with my CFC were actually some of the best I’ve ever had from a non-gourmet burger place. Their coffee is good, their tea is great, and their milkshakes are impressive. On-site parking is limited, but there’s plenty of downtown parking at the Pearl I’d you’re willing to walk.

Oh no. This place is dirty. I know it’s supposed to be «divey» and I’m no snob but. gross. There was crusted vomit on the first booth and the floor. The place is covered in very dusty pig trinkets. There are chunks of dust dangling from the stained ceiling tiles. The food was underwhelming, I guess. The coffee was good though. The employees were very nice. But I’m going to be avoiding coming here again.

DIVEDIVEDIVE. This place was once a diner and is not a dive that serves as a diner. The décor is like stepping into a time warp. They have pies in the old school carousel, mini jukeboxes at every booth, and vinyl covered seats. The food is good, but not great. It’s fresh though and that is pretty sweet. I had the chopped steak and mashed potatoes which was really good. The brown gravy isn’t too thick or too thin. My buddies had the meatloaf and said the only bad thing was the sauce that goes on top, which they said taste like a normal Pace picante salsa. I’d probably just get it on the side. Some of the tables and ceiling tiles can use some attention or change out, but the dining room is clean. The serve was very nice too. Although, I think if this place was busy the wait times could be a little delayed. I’d go back though. It didn’t over impress but it also didn’t turn me off to another visit.
