Hands down the best gulf oysters in town! Also a great spot to hit up when they have their crawfish boils, yum! Please sir can I have some more? The only downside to this place is the bathroom situation. The first bathroom on the left has its own smell to it that no one should ever have to endure but there is another bathroom further down that was just fine.

The lunch was great: the Gulf oysters were perfect, as was the lobster bisque and the jalapeño hush puppies. Two minor issues: for $ 9.00 per glass the wine was over priced — a too small pour in a plastic glass. and a few of the oysters were too small to have been served. Otherwise it was a fine experience and I plan to return for more oysters soon.

I had no plan to eat here, but Über’ed by it as I arrived in town early for a wedding up the street at the Lambermont, and seeing as it wasn’t my wedding, and seeing as I had time to kill, and seeing as I hate wearing ties, it only made sense to balance the formality of the day by making an impromptu stop at a place called the Shuck Shack. I walked back, sat the bar, and spent the next two hours drinking, eating, chatting, and generally having an unexpectedly great time with the staff. I tried three different oysters, and all of them were just perfect. They make their own side-juice-concoction that kicked the oysters over the edge. I also tried the hush puppies, which were larger than I have ever had, but were ridiculously flavorful; crunchy outside, moist inside… as good as any I’ve eaten in NC. As a beer drinker, I was glad to see their craft beer, none of which were familiar to me, but the bartender and shucker helped me taste my way to a successful drinking endeavor. While sitting and eating and drinking and enjoying myself, I took to Unilocal to see all the great reviews, and was somewhat surprised at some of the mediocre reviews by people who sometimes sound like they need to have a bad time so they have something to write about. Go eat at the Shuck Shack. Sit at the bar. Order a half dozen. Chat with the staff. Order another half dozen. Enjoy yourself. And ignore the folks who take every little thing about their eating experience so seriously.

I’m from south jersey where I can enjoy buck a shuck Wednesday with $ 1 fresh oysters. Usually there’s about 7 – 9 choices. I’m glad I checked out shuck shack but I’ll probably just load up on my oysters at home. The oysters were fresh and yummy, but the service was lacking. It wasn’t that they were rude, just slow or under staffed. I wouldn’t go out of your way to eat here unless you’re really looking to eat raw oysters. The jalapeño hush puppies were lacking flavor and it just wasn’t a place I was impressed with.

I’ve had a taste but will go back for the real deal — here’s why: 1) Very friendly staff: I went for a sponsored happy hour, so I didn’t get the true service. However, when I went up to the bar with a few questions, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. 2) Delicious oysters: A seafood restaurant can be judged two ways: the quality of their oysters and the sear on their fish. The three oyster styles I sampled were chilled, spicy, and savory. This sample encourages my return. 3) Location: The Pearl doesn’t offer decent prices with restaurants. They’re all high-end. This is a close walk and is less expensive than the Pearl’s Sandbar or any other place that offers seafood.

First time trying this place out with family. Dissaponited. Clamp chowder was watery and flavorless. I have had more flavor from canned soup. Kids meals don’t offer healthy alternative, only fries. And their place is overpriced for the food they are serving. Will not go back.

I parked in front of a sketchy-looking apartment complex that had two dudes fighting on the sidewalk and walked into this empty restaurant at 8PM on a Friday. Turns out they completely ran out of oysters at an oyster bar. :/ Based on the reaction of our server, she was either flat-lining or this kind of thing happens a lot. But never fear, they did have a $ 44 sandwich available! I ended up eating a so-so hot dog(at an oyster bar :/), worrying the whole time that my car was going to be stolen, and immediately feeling the veil of depression lifted as soon as I left.

Authentic east coast flavor, original, cute spot, it’s a must. Will definitely return soon. Prices might be a little high for what it is, but the quality of the food is impeccable, so it is worth it. I love the clam chowder, the lobster roll, oysters and the frozen pop drinks.

Loved the Shuck Shack!!! Went a few weeks ago for my birthday dinner and it was amazing. We had a dozen oysters, all from east coast, the hush puppies and I had the lobster roll and my wife had the shrimp roll. Very unique blend of flavored and fresh fresh seafood. In an old house near a revitalized part of San Antonio and was a fun night, great food and service and a good birthday dinner choice. Lots of outdoor seating and a small indoors.

I was skeptical about trying what’s appears to be a hipster version of a boothbay harbor seafood shack in the inland town of San Antonio… but I was pleasantly surprised. When the clam chowder ala minute showed up in front of me, I recognized it as decidedly southern take on the traditional staple. A generous amount of thick cut bacon cubes and Yukon gold potatoes accompany the clams in the soup, which are still in open shells. As if that wasn’t enough to distinguish this soup from others, a toasted half baguette tops the soup to replace saltines. The soups taste was rich and creamy and was large enough for my dinner. Now that I’m sold on the culinary skills of shuck shack, I’ll try the half lobster roll next time, even though the $ 22 price tag scared me away on my first visit. It’s worth noting that they have a fairly extensive house cocktail list and some daily recognizable craft beers and Mexican imports on draft, although I stuck to $ 2.50 lone star! If you come on Sunday they have $ 5 cocktails!

After visiting Boston and Maine a couple summers ago, and having fantastic lobster rolls, I was a bit wary of coming to Shuck Shack to try their version. Because, well, this is south Texas. But as the price and the taste will tell you, this stuff is good and fresh. My hubs and I went on a hot summer evening to the Shack, so sitting outside wasn’t something we really wanted to do. They do have a fabulous outdoor eating area, however, so the fall will be fantastic for outdoor eating. The inside of the restaurant is small but cozy, and you can sit at the oyster bar or a table. The menu is limited, but that’s a good thing. There’s oysters(baked and raw), as well as fish and chips and other seafood items. I’ve also heard their burger is outrageous. We opted for the hushpuppies for an app and were pleased; the cheese sauce that comes with is perfect.(Actually, I wish I had a huge bowl of it so I could just coat those lil puppies in it.) I ordered the half lobster roll for $ 22, which is a bit pricey in my book. It was divine, and I ate the whole damn thing. My husband’s fish and chips came out looking beautiful and delicious, and tasted just as good. For dessert, we opted for a San Antonio made mango paleta, which was a great ending to our meal. I wish I would’ve tried one of the paleta drinks, but I didn’t see it on the menu and I didn’t ask about it(I regret that decision). As far as seafood options go in SA, Shuck Shack is a fun little place to enjoy some delicious options. Be prepared to pay for the freshness, but you’ll certainly enjoy whatever you decide to order.

My goodness, Unilocalers. I have so many confessions about my Shuck Shack experience and it’s time I lay some real, hard truths on you. First things first, I’ve been avoiding writing this review. And that’s because every time I wander over to Shuck Shack’s Unilocal page, I get the most outrageous craving for everything on the menu: exquisite food, crafty cocktails, the works. But now that I’m here, I’m fighting through it. And we WILL get through this review together. Though I should tell you now, it will probably(hopefully) end in a trip to Shuck Shack for both of us when I’m through. My next confession is that when my partner and I arrived at the restaurant, I was immediately in love at first sight. The spacious outdoor seating area was fabulous and functional, décor of string lights and a playground for the kids, umbrellas for that pesky Texas heat and an array of roomy picnic tables; and if that’s not your thing, there’s plenty of inside seating to go around. We started off with a couple of drinks as they have beer, wine, and cocktails on the menu. I indulged in ordering my classic favorite, the Greyhound, which was perfectly balanced, refreshing, and not at all bitter — just how I like it.(Plus it’s just an excellent summer drink, so flock to it while you still can!) I should once again go with the theme of full disclosure and tell you we ordered basically the whole menu. While it is somewhat small, it does have a great selection of oysters — and the best part is that you can order one of each instead of just ordering by the half dozen. It also has bites, soups, and salads, plus the lobster roll, fish and chips, and your classic burger/hot dog dish. We first ordered the kewpie deviled eggs, and the waiter assured us that they were«made to perfection» when she dropped them off at the table. At the time, I wished she hadn’t — certainly no food can survive that hype and rise to [eggs]xellence, right? Well, Unilocalers, the truth is they were BETTER than [egg]xpected. The soft eggy vessels were cooked to perfection and topped with an absolutely divine concoction of sriracha, scallions, and celery salt that would put your grandma’s recipe to shame. Next up were the jalapeño hush puppies which were served with wedges of lime and a mayo-based dipping sauce. I have to award extra points for creativity here, because I would never think to pair a citrus with a hushpuppy — but alas, the puppy was spicy on the inside, creamy and tangy on the out, and fluffy in all the right places. My partner and I split the half lobster roll for our main dish, and it was the perfect amount after snacking on small bites and oysters. The lobster roll, or the star of the Shuck Shack show, was creamy, fresh, and stuffed with lobster meat. While the price point is high, the dish itself is usually steep on any menu(and somehow always served with the world’s most miniature lobsters). The flavors of the celery, paprika, and creamy base just all came together for me; not to mention, the perfectly buttered bread bun just sent it over the edge. Complete with a tasty order of seasoned fries, this dish was the dinner of seaside champions. I’ve got to say I’m usually with the crowd when it comes to reviewing the hot and new spots in SA, but this time I have to stray from the pack. Not only were we served some of those most delicious food I’ve had in the city, but our service was prompt and reliable. While the overall tab may be higher than what you’d find at your standard seafood restaurant, Shuck Shack is anything but your typical meal. I’m all for the overall concept, the relaxed service, and the casual vibe as long as the food and staff are top notch, and in this experience, it was all that and more. The question isn’t whether or not I’m going to return again — the question is how I’m going to stay away! Easily made it onto my list of favorite dinner spots in the city.

My husband and I dined here on Saturday night. We have been looking forward to eating at this restaurant, as we like to try all of Jason Dady’s restaurant concepts. We sat on the deck outside and decided to order a dozen oysters(we told the waitress to surprise us and pick different kinds of oysters) and spit a ½ lobster roll. Needless to say, we were very very happy with our order. The East Coast oysters were the best(can’t remember the names) and we were fighting over the lobster roll. I don’t normally like lobster, but the sandwich was amazing. I highly recommend the sandwich. We will definitely be back again, as I love seafood and it’s hard to get really awesome seafood in San Antonio.

I went today based off of a bad review about how the oysters were«small and bland». Excellent! Clean and delicious oysters with easy parking and an atmosphere I can feel comfortable in, even if I’m asking for a high chair and wearing Tevas. Patio space is ample, and I appreciate the paced out coursing that the waiters provide. It’s relaxed, it’s fresh and clean food, and it’s more approachable than most options in the area. It’s also a lot more inviting. I could spend an afternoon with my neighbors and a bucket of beer here. It’s pricey, but not inappropriate. We asked for a side of a mayo and it had the characteristic shape of the kewpie squeeze bottle. I had a fantastic glass of rose vinho verde for $ 3, and there were options that could get you by without breaking the bank. The food is fresh, market options are available, and everything that goes onto your plate is quality.

Not impressed. We joined in for dinner on a slow evening and opted for drinks and some oysters. The waitress seemed confused as she explained the menu«Okay, here is the drink menu, the food menu and a daily oyster menu. If you look at letter D, use the other menu to find the letter, that’s the oyster for the day. THEN you’ll go back to the first menu. Circle the letter THEN circle if you want 6 or 12 then circle anything else you want…» Okay, I was already turned off by this approach. Why would I want to dine where I have to do paperwork? Isn’t it the job of a server to write things for me? Anyway, we played along and circled deviled eggs and circled D, then circled(6) gulf oysters. She returns with«I’m so sorry but we’re out of those oysters». The game begins… Service: was absent, we had about 4 to 5 different servers so the entire experience was… unique. They kept tossing the job on other servers. We asked for Tabasco, she responded by «ill get the other server to grab it». The next server brings us Tapatio and leaves. The next server came around and we asked for Tabasco, again… You guessed it, ANOTHER server brought us Tabasco. This took over 5 minutes. Servers: Our server does not like oysters and has never tried Shuck Shack. Wow. Just wow. I asked for details on the baked oysters and she pulls out a cheat sheet and starts to read in monotone. Drinks: I paid $ 10 for a paleta, topo chico and a shot of vodka, making this drink called«Limonade» — it’s a ripoff cause it’s so weak! Next I wanted a pint of beer instead, she mentions«Oh, we’re out of tap beer. Our tap machine is broke».
