I wanted to LOVE this place… But unfortunately my experience was less than desirable. A group of 5 of us went to try the wine tasting… Let me say that I think the idea behind the place is brilliant(wines low in sulfates, made in house), plus you can get a group and bottle your own wine for special occasions. So i was really excited to try this place, and I love wine! My taste in wine tend to be on the sweeter side, but these wines were even too sweet for me… From the moment we walked in it seemed they did not want us there, the women was cold and stand offish, didn’t give us any back ground on the wines or the winery(maybe she was having an off day?) I was disappointed. After a while a jolly man came to check on us and i was glad that he was willing to provide a better experience, answering questions and making jokes with us, but by that point the mood had already been killed. Id like to give this place another try… but probably not anytime soon.

Wonderful atmosphere! Friendly service with very knowledgable staff! Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a local winery experience in the city! Next time we are going to come back in the summer and try out the wine slushies!

We were looking for something to do and stumbled across this place. The Unilocal reviews were good so we decided to check it out. This is the only winery in the city of San Antonio which I thought was pretty cool. Stray Grape has an extensive selection of wines. I was very impressed by the selection and the taste of these wines. We went to Stray Grape on a Saturday. It was the day of the Kentucky Derby and it was packed. When me and my fiancé first walked in we thought we may have walked in on someone’s private event. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by one of the employees and they were very friendly. We instantly felt welcomed by the employees and the regulars. I recommend others try some of their Port Wines, they are to die for. For being the only winery San Antonio and having the market cornered they still treat you like there’s competition in the city. People are friendly, prices are reasonable and the wine well, it tastes fantastic. If you’re looking for something to do and want some free wine tasting, this is the place to visit. Me and my fiancé will definitely be back.

Love this place! I would be in trouble if this was in my neighborhood, because I would probably live here. Excellent service. Very knowledgeable about their wines. Reasonable prices. Wide selection. Something for everybody. We opted for the Washington Riesling and the Ruby Port. Every wine(and we tasted several) was delicious. Will be back when we are in the area.

A ridiculous number of small-batch wines are available for tasting and purchasing in a comfortable environment filled staffed with lively, fun, informative people. The wines are made from grapes purchased from around the world then processed in-house. [If you like sweet and fruity wines, you’ll probably be ecstatic about the surprisingly large selection of them. I’m not exactly a fan of these, hence the fewer stars to my review. HOWEVER, I will say that friends I went with were very happy, bought numerous bottles, and already plan to return.] You can order and drink glasses or bottles of wine — taking home unfinished bottles or, if you’re a regular, leaving them for your next visit, which is a great concept — and taste just about everything. I found the small-batch production fascinating, and they welcome you to watch their morning bottling of new wines. There are loads of seating around tables, at the bar, or on couches in an alcove with a player piano. Food isn’t available from Stray Grape itself, but you can bring in or order in food if you’d like. The staff describes Stray Grape as «‘Cheers!’ for wine drinkers» and, between the liveliness of the staff and their interaction with the warm, friendly regulars, I believe it.

Just happened to stop in while running errands and wanted to see what this place was all about! Since it was still early in the morning, there wasn’t a lot of people, but I can see this place getting busy at night. First impression as I walked through the door is that it ‘looks bigger on the inside’. There are wood bar top tables and a few couches with enough room to maneuver around to the left and a long bar to the right. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting even if you’ve never been to a wine bar before. Then it hits you! A light oak scent fills the air, making you look for the closest fireplace and cozy up. No fire place present, but since it has a mini winery in back, the oak is a nice afterthought. The proprietors are 3 sisters who were all present at the time, but a very nice older gentleman greeted me warmly and helped me out as he had me sit up at the bar as we discussed my taste in wines. I’m not a picky wino, but I do enjoy a good Italian. You are allowed up to 5 free tastings and then any after that is $ 1. The experience was educational and I found several that I liked, which made it hard to narrow down to 1. Wine menu goes from least expensive by glass/bottle/batch for customers just starting to explore different wines, to most expensive by glass/bottle/batch for customers who are already familiar with wines and regions where the grapes are imported. You also have a chance to make your own wine and join a wine club! Wine club sounds cool, and if I join I’ll write another review just on that. All in all a nice experience and will definitely be bringing my girlfriends there.

Stray Grape is my favorite chill place. So many yummy wines to choose from. I love to meet my girlfriends there and do tastings, share bottles and on occasion bottle our own wine with custom labeling! Soo fun!

This is the only winery in San Antonio! How convenient is that? The wine is amazing and the friendly staff are so helpful. They do sell cheeses and other items to nosh on but you can bring in whatever food you would like to go with your wine! As a San Antonio native I will be at this winery every week.
