Beautiful mansion for a wedding or reception. Well… This is Alamo Heights daaaahling. Old money.78209 old money. Its a glimpse into how it must have been back in the day.(for those of you who know what I’m talking about rattle your diamonds) I love old southern mansions. So much character & craftmanship everywhere in the grand olé estate. The floors are beautiful, the rooms elegant. Mostly one is relegated to a certain area or outside for the party but its truly beautiful.

Dined here 12÷17÷12. Was served a salad that was different from the one I ordered. When the salad plates were cleared, the waiter never concerned himself enough to ask why I didn’t eat any of it. My entrée had a strange, disgusting mystery item hiding beneath the ravioli. Again, no interest from the waiter when he collected yet another plate of uneaten food from me. We were guests of a member, so any fuss would have been unacceptable. I’m giving two stars because the facility is pretty, the valet staff was gracious, and everyone else in our group enjoyed their food. The drinks were ok — all of the other people at our table were offered top shelf liquors where my husband and I were not. Must have unknowingly done something to offend our waiter, Robert.

I recently attended a lovely wedding reception here. The ceremony was completely adorable but very intimate and unadorned. So I suppose the couple really wanted to liven things up a bit for the festive portion of their happy day. I mean, there were piñatas, isn’t that pretty rock n roll? Okay. So. Not going to lie. Was a little put off to learn the bulk of the reception was outside. Yeah, I’m a princess like that, and how! Not but seriously, ditch your stilettos or come prepared with flip flops if you find yourself in a similar tricky situation. I was just in regular olé’ heels and found myself repeatedly sinking backwards into the soft mushy earth. It wasn’t hugely unmanageable, but I’m sure this has irked others before me. Also, mosquito spray is crucial if it’s spring or summer. This is Texas after all. Other than all of that, it’s a nice little garden/party area. Quite expansive and plenty of room for a stage, three bars, a photobooth, tables for sign-ins, and so forth. As for the actual house — pretty stinkin’ charming. It’s kind of dated with a bit of creakiness and I didn’t have a chance to wander to the third floor, but the first two were spacious enough for a couple of buffet lines, cake, some tables and chairs(ah, air-conditioning!). Definitely a lovely wedding reception spot if you happen to be looking. It’s slightly different from hotel banquet rooms or those massive banquet compounds, I very much enjoyed it. However, parking probably isn’t the easiest thing to deal with, but we were generously provided with a limo bus, so that wasn’t a salient concern for us.
