Thundercloud subs is my favorite place to go for a sandwich! Ever since i found them i’ve never gone back to a subway. They are fresh and healthy. I love that they give more of the insides with less bread! Mikhala and Lauren always happen to be the ones who make my sandwich and they know just how I like it. They are super sweet and really good at keeping a conversation going while they make your delicious sandwich. Kudos to you girls for doing such a great job and keep it going!

BEST most patient restaurant I’ve seen so far. Great customer service even when short staffed and dealing with a large group!

Having attended college in Austin, Thundercloud subs had been a staple of my diet for most of undergrad. I was so excited to find a location here in San Antonio! Not only does Thundercloud offer a very affordable deal of a different rotating sandwich each month(usually lest than $ 6.50 for a large sub), but they make delicious soups. In addition to their overall very affordable prices, I have found the all of the staff at this location to be efficient, outgoing, interesting, and very effective«sandwich artists». Try the vegetarian sandwich with cream cheese. So delicious!

I’ve been on the search for an awesome sub sandwich within San Antonio. I’m from Miami and we’ve got some kick-ass places, so I’ve been looking for a good one ever since I moved here! This place is small and is right next to Starbucks(bonus). Right as I walked in I was greeted by Micaela. She is incredibly friendly and we ended up chatting for a while and she recommended all the good stuff. I ordered the Texas Tuna for my husband — he LOVED it — and just a regular boring old turkey for myself. Everything tasted fresh and really good, I loved the vinaigrette they put on their sandwiches, very flavourful. The food was good overall but the friendly and sweet service is the reason I’ll be back, she really made me feel right at home. Definitely recommend this place!

Just eh. Good service but plain sandwiches and the chili was obviously the type from a can meant for hotdogs. Nothing impressive whatsoever

Some of the worst service I’ve ever had. Every time I go in there, they’re always more worried about personal conversations and not customer service. My most recent experience was far from satisfactory. Stopped in to grab a sandwich only to be greeted by a not very happy young lady, I believe they said her name was Lauren. Lauren proceeded to throw my sandwich together in a very haphazard way, all the while being very focused on the cigarette she needed to go smoke as soon as she threw some ingredients on bread and called it a sandwich. I only know this because as she was«making» my sandwich, separate from the mandatory sandwich questions, never once asked how i was doing or anything of the like and instead proceeded to repeatedly tell her coworkers how much she needed that cigarette. Then as soon as she was done was very quick to slap my credit receipt down in front of me and run off and tend to her insatiable need for said cigarette, not even saying goodbye, or have a nice evening. Needless to say, I will not be going back anytime soon as this has been my experience here more times than not.

Friendly staff and quality food. I like the turkey sub with bacon but all of the subs are fresh and taste good. I’ve eaten at several of their locations. I don’t know why but the subs at this location taste better.

This is the cleanest thundercloud I have ever been in. The staff is super helpful. Definitely eat here, the food was great.

The lettuce is super wet… the bread is soggy… too much mayonnaise. It’s the torcheys of subway

Love this place and the staff is always in a good mood and very welcoming ! I haven’t ventured away from the texas tuna and California club, those are my favorites. I always choose sprouts instead of lettuce and don’t forget the thundercloud sauce.

Thundercloud is home of my sandwich appetite, far and away higher on the list than other chainy sandwich shops in the area. They rank higher in sandwich quality, atmosphere, and have overall better menu choices. Of course T-cloud earns extra points with me for having vegetarian options that aren’t just a garden between two loaves of bread – their nada chicken and nada chicken parmesan sandwiches are delish and fulfill any vegetarian sandwich lover’s dream. And when it comes to taste buds, mine are satisfied with the spicy options I can add to any sandwich – hot sauce, super fiery jalapeños, spicy mustard. I’m also really into the new Thundercloud thing, which is turning any sub into a salad. Not that I would voluntarily give up that soft and wheaty bread, but if I did, I’d want a well-dressed, ingredient-heavy, deconstructed sandwich salad. Now for the sad news, the star that I begrudgingly had to drop from this favorite sandwich staple. I’ve been to several T-cloud locations in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston and every location seems to have these same downsides. Every once in a while, the consistency of the exact same sandwich is off. Sometimes it’s the perfect meal you envisioned and have come to know and love, and sometimes it turns on you quicker than you could have ever expected. Very unfortunately, their call ahead service has proven to be accurate just about 60% of the time, with lots of sandwich toppings left somewhere in the abyss and leaving you to wonder if it’s all just one big conspiracy of Thundercloud wanting to hoard their ingredients as often as possible, or a problem of staff that provides selective attention. However, this Nacogdoches location seems to have a better track record than all of the rest. Even considering these faults, Thundercloud is still a sandwich shop I hold dear in my heart. Even on a bad day, it’s light years better than the next sandwich shop!

Hands down, my favorite place for a sub. Subway can go kick rocks… This place tops it all. I highly recommend if you want to get a fresh sandwich! Bread, toppings and meats are always fresh! We have been to this location well over a dozen times now in the past 3 months!

I hate coming to this location. They are so slow and every time I come they manage to mess up my order somehow. I called a head 20 min before I arrived to pick up my order for 3 subs it still wasn’t ready. I get so frustrated whenever I am here. They didn’t even apologize for the wait. They are never rude, seems like a nice group of people but they just can’t get my subs right!

California Club is just okay. Pretty dry even with their vinaigrette and oil mixture. $ 18+ for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks is pricey. The guy making my sandwich is a douche. Short and curt. Seemed annoyed. Rude.

Very friendly environment quick, easy, and affordable. Subs are great! I think the best thing about this place is that it’s still growing, it doesn’t have the big«subway» feel to it. Not a production line. I love the small town vibe they have, where costumer come first. I will be back.

What can I say? Fast ! Fresh! And simply good! I can’t find any complaints here. The restaurant itself was very clean. Yea baby!

The sandwiches here are so good, you won’t believe they’re actually a chain! Sadly there are only two locations here in town, neither of which is particularly convenient to me. I wish these places were as common as Subway seems to be, because for only a dollar or two more per sandwich, the quality is exponentially better. And I’ll let you in on a secret, too– if you pick up a copy of The Current, there’s a 90% chance you’ll find a buy-one-get-one coupon to use, too! I recently found one of said coupons and went today with the BF, where we split The Office Favorite and the Austin Club sandwiches, both large, and together had a meal for $ 7 and change. Cant really beat that, can you? The Austin Club is basically any other restaurant’s version of a california club, as in club with avocado. Sounds basic, but the avocado here is a million times better than the pricey green goop haphazardly spread on your sandwich at Subway, and the bread and veggies are super fresh. Get it with the spices, oil, and vinegar, and it’ll blow your mind just a little bit. For a fairly common sandwich, this place gets it really, really right. But the appropriately-named Office Favorite is on a whole ‘nother level. It’s basically your favorite breakfast sandwich of bacon, egg, and cheese, but kicked up to a luxe lunch: egg salad, bacon, cheese, and veggies. Don’t tell me you aren’t already curious. The creamy, decadent egg salad is perfectly complemented by the salty crunch of the bacon, and the cheese and veggies somehow just add to it. I’m gonna go ahead and say it: I think I’ve found my favorite sandwich, guys. In addition to great sandwiches, this place also has smoothies, yogurt shakes, and soups– today’s feature was red beans and rice, and the aroma was out of this world. BF and I are already planning to hunt down another coupon and make this place a regular stop. Next visit we’ll try the tuna, the hot pastrami sandwich, and the chocolate Elvis smoothie… y’know, if I can resist the siren song of the Office Favorite. ;)

Here’s another chain restaurant that S.A. needs more of however I’m doubtful more locations will pop up when you consider a few things: 1. Thundercloud isn’t popular here like they are in Austin. To Austinites, Thundercloud is what Bill Miller’s and Taco Cabana is to us San Antonians. They choose Thundercloud and value it dearly over Subway because they’re all about being«weird» and giving the proverbial middle finger to the nationwide chains and corporations. That leads me to my 2nd point. 2. San Antonians love their Tex-Mex/Mexican food and their tacos so it’s highly unlikely Thundercloud would survive here. Look at what happened to the former Medical Center location, it’s an Einstein’s Bagels. Yeah I know it’s weird, San Antonians aren’t too fond of bagels either. On to my 3rd point. 3. San Antonians are hella cheap and love a bargain. And if that means Subway offering footlong subs at $ 5 each then so be it. Why do you think there’s one on practically every corner here? Hell I’m willing to bet you the price of a Subway footlong that you live, work and/or attend school within a close proximity to a Subway location. Don’t lie! In case you haven’t noticed, I’m probably in the minority that chooses Thundercloud over Subway for many reasons: 1. They’re never overzealous with the mustard. They just put a small amount and evenly spread it on the bread. Subway will just squirt a huge amount all over the bread and put all the fixings on it. 2. While it may be a bit higher than Subway, it’s not as expensive as Jersey Mike’s however the sandwiches are just as good as Jersey Mike’s, Lenny’s and Quizno’s and much better than Jimmy John’s. Perhaps I’m a bit too trusting since the workers don’t wear gloves when handling the food but I’m pretty sure they wash their hands. The girl who made my sub wasn’t a drug addicted hippie in her 40s or 50s, just your average, everyday college student trying to pay the bills and she was much more friendly than some of the employees I’ve encountered at most Subway locations. For dessert I recommend their brownies. They’re better than the ones at Jersey Mike’s. And the chocolate chip cookies are better than the underbaked ones served at Subway. Just as long as you luck out and get some fresh cookies instead of some stale ones that have been sitting for more than a day.

Nice little sub shop with a good variety of hot and cold subs. They also have soups and salads. The prices are fair and they have a weekly special at a real good price. The shop is clean and the employees are friendly. A great place to grab a quick bite. You can eat there or get it to go. If you call ahead they will have your order waiting for you.
