I recently tried this salon and wish I had not. I arrived on time for my appointment and the door was locked and no one was inside. I should have left at that point. Twelve minutes later the stylist showed up. Then she had to boot the computer, find her smock, setup her area, … Then haircut was something I would expect to get from someone at barber college. The wait, the poor haircut and the roach in the salon will all keep me from ever returning.

I was a little uneasy going to a new salon. I think everyone is, especially when it comes to color. I found this place on groupon, and they had an AWESOME deal for getting your hair colored/highlighted, cut, and styled. However there were no previous Unilocal reviews! Gasp, so risky! So here I go! This place is REALLY tucked back in the shopping area off of Huebner and Stone Oak. It’s in a little corner near Chicago Bar and Sushi Seven. Thomas did all the work on my hair, and all-in-all did a fantastic job. The color came out great, he was patient with the cutting. An overall, fantastic stylist. I gave a star deduction for a few reasons though and trust me, I feel guilty about it since all the employees are so nice and Thomas did such a great job highlighting! I have to admit though, the below is partially my fault since I came in with this«I kinda want this… but lets see how it goes» attitude. So yes, it’s a bit my fault for not getting EXACTLY what I wanted. I’ve had the same hair cut and color FORYEARS. I was hoping to come out with obviously different looking hair, even if the cut was still similar. I was hoping to go ombré/slightly balayage. More ombré than anything. However, when the color and cut was said and done, to me, it looked like I had just updated my highlights so the roots didn’t show as much in the front, and a tad darker in the back. And I have to repeat, the highlights looked great. And I was only charged(including tip) under $ 100 for the whole visit with my groupon. Which most salon divas will know is practically UNHEARDOF. I was still a bit bummed to not see a huge change in my hair. The other reason for the star deduction was the scheduling. It took me about 4(salon) days to get me scheduled. I’m not sure how the front desk works, however, I got the vibe that someone wasn’t always there to answer it. I had a better chance of getting someone on the phone during the day, during the work week. And the employee I spoke to was ALWAYS helpful. It’s just a shame there’s no one working the phone during all open hours. Which I’ve never seen at a salon before. You need someone scheduling! However, they do have a scheduling system online, that works beautiful when it’s up and running. I guess I caught it on an off day where it was offline. However, after my 4th day of trying to arrange the appointment, it was back up and I was able to schedule. The employees are fantastic, however, just a few tips here. Expect to schedule online(it’s pretty convenient actually), and if you want something specific, SPEAKUP. I’ve learned my lesson!

When I was traveling, I came in here to get my hair styled before a big meeting, but I ended up getting a cut and color, too. The stylist was so friendly and professional and pointed out that my hair color did not match my skin tone. She pulled out some pictures of styles and color that would look better on me. I wasn’t planning to get my hair colored, but I had the rest of the day free, so I agreed(who doesn’t like a spa day?) When she was finished, I absolutely loved the color and cut. I looked like a different person! She was so right about the color – now my face didn’t look washed out anymore. I’m so glad I decided to walk into this salon. I wish we had one where I live!
