I love this place. They have a huge selection of wine and a good menu of food. They never disappoint. I would come more often if the parking was wherever you find or pay $ 12 for the garage.

I came into town for a conference and found this restaurant(thanks to Unilocal). My colleagues and I really enjoyed the food! I ambiance at the bar was great and the bartender was very helpful while we were choosing our wine for the night. The outdoor patio was beautiful as well. I would highly recommend stopping by if you want a quiet evening with good wine and great food.

Omg I have nothing but great things to say about Zinc. After stopping in a handful of places walking around downtown San Antonio and being disappointed, we finally stumbled upon this place. Loved it so much we went back the following night. We sat by the bar both times and had a remarkable bartender Chris. Really people he’s amazing! In terms of food we tried almost everything on the menu and wasn’t disappointed. The margarita pizza, grilled shrimp and rice, guacamole which is prepared differently from any other guacamole I’ve ever tasted and it was great, hummus, shrimp PO boy, Cesar salad and only for $ 3, cheese plate, the mussels, it all was delicious! Not sure how this place gets any bad reviews on food. And for the service part I can only rate Chris. So if you definitely want great service, stay at the bar and ask for him!

Came here for lunch and had the chefs special, which was steak with cauliflower. Not sure of the exact name of the dish, but it was tasty, well-portioned and refreshing. Came with a nice salad, all for only $ 12.50. Great attentive and friendly service too. Truly worth a visit.

This is labeled as a wine bar… But their wines by the glass are extremely limited. The servers were friendly but weren’t very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the calamari, chips and guacamole and a few pizzas. The guacamole was great it was made fresh table side. The pizzas were good. The calamari wasn’t too crispy. Overall I’d give this place a C+.

Have only been during happy hour. Pretty nice place. Service has always been good, very friendly staff. Have never had to wait for seating. Happy hour drink and appetizer prices are fair. Good Mojitos and Sangria. I ordered a drink and the truffle fries(amazing) and got out of there for $ 8 + tip. The cheese plate is a pass. Not worth the price and quite poor to be honest. But I will definitely be going back with anticipation of trying a dinner entrée.

It’s a mixed bag here. My experience was that we felt like we were getting in the bartender’s way. He was cleaning glasses or something, and was using the bar for towels and wet glasses. It felt like we were part of the staff hanging around after hours. Kind of gross, hand prints, smudges, etc. on the bar. I realized I was wondering what the state of the kitchen was, which should never cross your mind. The drink was OK but not great. In 2 words: Joe Dirt/e!

The perfect thing about Zinc is it is small, intimate, not expensive, and not touristy when it’s located in the heart of tourism in SA! After reading Unilocal reviews I started with the prickly pear margarita. It was DELICIOUS! If you have never had one make sure you stir it FYI. I had to ask. The waitress said she doesn’t just tell people that because one time she did and the customer asked her if she thought she was stupid. Dumb. I had the short rib sandwich with truffle fries and my husband had the lamb burger with sweet potato fries. The upcharge for the truffle fries on a meal is $ 1.50 which isn’t bad but honestly, l liked the sweet potato fries far better. They were amazing. The short rib sandwich was very tender and favorable. I didn’t eat the lamb burger but my husband didn’t touch his fries because he said the lamb burger was so good. We also had table side guacamole. It wasn’t bad, however, I don’t understand why they add orange juice. I could’ve done without it. It was good, but the orange juice stopped it from being great. I had no room for dessert, so I went back a day later to try the brioche Apple bread pudding soufflé with toffee crunch ice cream. Seriously??? That was amazing! Worth every bite. You MUST try it! So I definitely recommend it and yay! It isn’t expensive! Thank me later!

I love eating here at Zinc. The steak and frites is always on point. The pizzas was also very delicious. I have yet to get tired of eating here. I would definitely recommend this place when you are looking for a new place to try out(:

Such a happy surprise in San Antonio — I didn’t walk in here blind — I did some quick research after walking up and down the river walk and realising that short of attending the ‘Mad Dog British Pub’(somewhere that makes my born in England, raised in London soul want to jump off a cliff) there weren’t really any options for a jumpy six year old and a couple of very hungry grown ups. A quick Unilocal lead us to Zinc — slightly run down looking on the outside and not hugely inspiring on the inside but when they seated us in their lovely shady patio out back, made their lovely smokey house Guac at our table and basically created and entirely off menu plate for the small one we were totally sold. Super SUPER friendly staff — clean, tasty, fresh tasting food — we had some sort of sun dried tomato pizza which was lovely and a very well executed chicken Caesar. It doesn’t look exciting on the outside but once you’re through to the Patio it is a world away from the grimy tourist traps in the surrounding streets. Very glad we found it — we will absolutely head back next time we’re in SA

My second time eating at Zinc and probably my last. Came here on a Wednesday night with a group of 10 people around 1030pm. Zinc was very accommodating and sat us inside in the bigger dining room. Service was great, no complaints there. The food on the other hand was disappointing. Not sure if it was because we came in at 1030pm or what, but time should never be an issue when preparing food. We had the calamari, was not crispy at all and tasted odd. They also fried avocado chunks and it was too over powering biting into a huge chunk of avocados. The Cesar salad was okay, nothing spectacular. Good thing I didn’t add the chicken to it. My sister got the lamb pappadelle and it was better than the other too. But again nothing spectacular. Honestly I would have rather gone to Whataburger and have been happy.

Love the Zinc Burger. It’s one of the best! Also, pairing with the zinc salads and the apple bread pudding makes for an excellent meal. Unique flavors and excellent service makes this a great date night or lunch.

Here for the AAPA conference with my lovely wife and business partner. This place was recommended by the hotel and there reviews seemed great so we came over. The place is Ashley walk from our hotel. Nice place. Smallish. Table side guacamole awesome. Good. The use of oj for the acid probably could have been better with some actual acid. It was a little flat. Calamari was ok not great. Kinda under cooked and very greasy. I think the oil might need to be hotter. Parmesan truffle fries were good. Unfortunately they were not very hot like they had sat there a while. The Mac and cheese was not good. No flavor and soupy. I wonder if there was any cheese in it. The fish and chips just ok. Crispy and decent flavor. The Caesar salad was really good and so cheap– 3 bucks! Service was terrible. I would not come again.

Great place to go after work! To me the escargot is the best in San Antonio by far. The selection of wines is world class and the staff is well versed in their inventory. Ask to see the cellar. Great place to host up to 50 of your friends and each can use a blanket if the temp for the wine collection is too low for you.

The pear margarita was delish! The service was not impressive. I did like the patio sitting area, it was so peaceful mainly because the weather was pleasant. One thing to keep in mind is that the restaurant it’s kind of small so be aware of the time you visit.

It was good, but I wasn’t blown away. The bar seats are a bit awkward because the eating surface is flush with where your knees go, so it’s awkward eating because you have to eat over your lap. Best thing I got was the Zinc salad. $ 3 gets a fancy, high quality mix of sun dried tomatoes, pecans, goat cheese, micro greens, micro pear slices, tomatoes and shoestring fried onions. It would have been off the hook if the onions were hot, but they were cold and old. Still a great salad! I had the lamb burger and I was disappointed. The lamb was so tough, it wasn’t the melt in my mouth that perfectly cooked lamb should be. There was no seasoning to note in the lamb itself. The brioche bun had hard grains on top and it was soggy right away with juices. The fig and Brie were the best part of the burger. The special sauce was yummy but not spicy. I asked if I could sub the Zinc salad for sweet potato fries, which come with the burger and was told it was $ 2 extra. I said, «just give me the fries, and I’ll pay $ 3 for the salad». Seemed a better deal, but my calorie count suffered. The fries were good. Slight spicy kick, but overseasoned. Staff were nice and attentive. I would go back, but skip the burger next time. Pizza looked good!

I had the short rib sandwich and he said with goat cheese and truffle fries. All very good. The ambiance here is great too. It’s charming and chic. Despite this, the prices are fairly low. Overall good choice.

Came here yesterday for a late night dinner. It’s around a 7 minute walk from the Hyatt hotel to Zinc’s. When arriving we had two options to be seated either at the bar or the dinning area. We chose the dinning area as it was already crowded around the bar area. The ambience gives off a romantic atmosphere and would be great place for a date!(Actually came here on my boyfriends and I’s anniversary) We ordered the: Calamari, Texas Lamb Pappardelle, Pasta Portofino, and Brioche Applebread Pudding Soufflé. CALAMARI: Everything on the plate complimented well with the rest of the ingredients. The spicy tomato aioli was perfect and not too spicy and was paired well with the calamari. PASTAPORTOFINO: Packed with a lot of basil(just the way I like it) which made it rich in flavour. However; i disliked how the chicken was diced up, if anything it was in scraps! I was expecting thinly sliced pieces but oh well. Also I found the portion to be quite petite. TEXASLAMB: Very tasty! I only had a bite or two but would have definitely preferred this over the pasta portofino. SOUFFLÉ: Scrumptious! I’m not a fan of any apple desserts so when I gave this a try, it became my only exception. The icecream paired so well with the hot spongy apple bread, and the toffee and brittle just made the dessert come together. It was nice trying out this place but I probably won’t be back since looking back on the menu, nothing was really appealing.

Great wine selection and a well rounded menu. I blame myself a bit for my food decisions as I was starving after a full day of traveling and moving without eating, but it was still tasty and I will be back to try some of the shareable items as they looked amazing. –Zinc Salad: simple and good, not drowning in dressing and the pairing of the goat cheese with apples and tomatoes was a nice change. I also appreciate the $ 3 price tag! –Churrascos of Grilled Shrimp: very large shrimp and veggies, however it lacked a bit of flavor… more garlic or some type of spice would’ve added a lot to the dish. While it is a great portion of shrimp and veggies, I would recommend otherwise if starving like I was. –Faux Gras: not something I’d normally order, but the bartender highly recommended it and I was pleased he did! It comes with crackers, pita and baguettes in addition to some sort of jam that really adds a nice bite. I strongly suggest this if ordering red wine to accompany it. The service was great and there was a nice sized crowd at the bar on a dreary Wednesday night.

This visit to Zinc was a Great and Sad experience as I enjoyed a decent meal and an Excellent desert, but had to say goodbye to a dear friend as we Celebrated her departure from San Antonio. Located downtown, a small walk from the River Walk, I wasn’t pleased that I had to pay $ 12 for parking near the restaurant as there were only three spots in front of the establishment(my pizza was $ 12 …) My friend and I dined on an Appetizer of Truffle fries that were gently shaved in cheese and served with an invigorating mayo based sauce. We both had a version of pizza that was too thin and greasy for my taste. She seemed to enjoy hers but I’ve had better at Papa Johns. The Crème de Le Crème was the Fantastic Bread pudding. We devoured It along with the tasty Cinnamon Ice Cream it was served on top of. The Décor was romantic along with the wine wall that graced the entrance. Calvin was a superior host but I couldn’t rate higher due to inadequate parking and that pizza. I would definitely recommend for Valentine’s Day or an Anniversary as the ambience is set for lovers ~ Ms. Foodie

For a burger and bistro place, they do it well. I got the ancho short rib sandwich since I was afraid the typical burger will be greasy and dry. However, I had a bite of my fellow companions and found their house special zinc burger was dyanamite! The smoky chargrilled really was evident and not dry at all. I do like their buns toastes on both sandwiches. My short ribs sandwich was well flavored but it had a tangy vinagrette tast that I am unable to pinpoint. It came with warm potato salad but I had it replaced with sweet potato fries. I had a bite of the pasta portofino and thanks to Unilocal pics, it did not disappoint. My friend also enjoyed her mac n cheese. She raved about it! I really wanted to try the calamari. And dessert but nobody ordered any. Next time!

Had a late lunch on Saturday, outside in the patio area in the non-smoking section. We were promptly seated without wait since it was about 3pm. A menu was dropped off and about five minutes or more later, waitstaff came by to get our drink order. I tried the lam burger with sweet potato fries with the other two in my party has the crab cakes and lamb pasta. Each had their own distinct flavor, which was a surprise and delight. The lamb burger was a bit overly gamey, but since it was my first lamb burger, I cannot compare it to any other that I have eaten. It was on a soft bread and came with a side of sweet potato fries and BBQ dip. The fries definitely had a spivey kick. The burger also had chopped spring mix. The crab cakes were melt in your mouth delicious and came with a small side of chopped spring mix. The pasta was in a red wine sauce and very tasty. The lamb looked to be from the same ground meat as my lamb burger. However, there was no gamey flavor at all. Service was not as quick as expected since there were only a few tables full. However, we were outside so it is understandably slower at times to get prompt service on refills. Overall, it was to be expected so I don’t expect that to deter me from returning to Zinc. For anyone wanting a meal to enliven your palate, I would suggest you stop at Zinc.
