I mean it’s in a mall food court, I wasn’t expecting any culinary masterpieces. I don’t think there’s even an oven at this bread shop. I was killing time at Tanforan and Unilocaled coffee. This was 0.01 miles away so here I went. To be fair, this is probably very different than the flagship location in Copenhagen and maybe even different than it’s Bay Area brethren so I don’t want to write off Andersen Bakery altogether. What lured me here were rave reviews about this bread with custard inside that conjured up sweet memories of Walt Disney World’s School Bread at Epcot Norway(Google it). I honestly thought this would be similar but it’s basically a baguette filled with custard and they slice it into bite sized pieces for you. Yes, the custard is sweet but the bread didn’t seem fresh and overall just didn’t live up to the hype. I probably should’ve gotten something else. Pastry disappointment aside, the people who work here are incredibly nice. Even so, I’ll probably go elsewhere next time.

I’ve been to several Andersen Bakery in the Bay Area and only had one thing from them. Tropical Flan also known as pudding à la mode in Japan. Originally invented at a hotel in Yokohama after the world war II, as growing up I only got to eat this pudding on special occasion. This was my first visit to this particular location. It is located inside the Tanforan Mall, at the food court. Small but they have all standard Andersen Bakery sweets. On this particular day I visited, I came early afternoon on weekday and the mall wasn’t crowded at all. In fact I was the only customer there when I was waiting at the bakery. Service was prompt, she gave me plastic spoons and packed all 5 pudding nicely in a box. I took the pudding to the office and all the ladies loved it. Not too sweet, just right amount of sweetness. It is decorated so nicely, it just makes you feel special eating this pudding.

Food: I don’t know the formal name but I got the french bread with cream inside? It was soo good. I don’t understand the people saying the food here is not good . Service: A bit on the slow side, but it isn’t anything to complain about. Would I come again? Yeah, why not? I’ll probably be dropping by every time I hit Tanforan.

Really bad food and service. Not worth the price. Definitely isn’t fresh and it taste bad. The service lack professionalism. I use to order the«fresh» mozzarella but this last time it was so disgusting. Never again. EVER! Even if I want something quick and healthy, this is not the place.

For a chain in a mall, this place aint too shabby. I’m a fan of Andersen’s Bakery in the first place. I’m slow to order, and when the lady asked me what bread I wanted my sandwich on… I froze. She pointed to the sign with their breads and was patient with me as I was trying to pick something. So thanks for that! I ordered from the«pick two» selection and got half a clam chowder and half a turkey avocado swiss sandwich. The clam chowder was good and nice and hot even when I got home to eat it. Sandwich had mayo on it which I can’t stand, but that’s no fault of theirs… still good either way. Yum.

If only i could give this place zero stars but sadly i cant, feel bad i wasted my money on some mediocre pastry… Worst place ever dont even bother
This is the place to go when you are not sure what you want to eat but the mall has too many day old, steamer tray, deep fried, msg laden alternatives. I always get the raspberry bar thingie that is like a croissant with cream cheese and raspberry jam. I manage to dust myself with powdered sugar every time I get one because I eat it so fast! The sandwiches.. . ok, this is my problem. The cold sandwiches are always wonderfully cold. I appreciate that. The veggies in said sandwiches are really fresh. I appreciate that. The sliced sourdough bread is chewy and soft. I appreciate that. Processed turkey!!! THEYUSEPROCESSEDTURKEYINFRESHBAKEDBREAD?!? I am completely gobsmacked. Nitrates are poison, just like MSG. You know people looking for a healthy mall food alternative shouldn’t be resigned to ingesting poison! That is like putting a sticker on the bumper of a Tesla Roadster. That is like wearing Louboutins with pajamas. That has to change.

I’ve tried this Anderson Bakery twice now and feel I can give a fair assesment on their sandwich game. I’m a big fan of sammies; mom and pop sandwich shops; Safeway sandwiches, Panera, etc. I don’t have an Anderson Bakery by me, so I’m more than willing to try a new sandwich shop. I’m unsure how long this location has been open but its a convenience for mall shoppers and frequent visitors of the theater such as myself. The menu is simple with about 10 sandwiches and a few different salads. The bakery sells freshly made bread as well as pastries. After giving a once over of their menu, I settled on the Turkey & Fresh Mozzarella toasted on a baguette. The sandwich comes with mayo but I usually substitute the calories/fat with mustard or honey mustard. Oddly enough they only offer dejon, which I’m not particularly a fan of. The food took less than 10 minutes and was an acceptable portion size considering the ingredients. The sandwich is a little bigger than a Subway 6″ but not by much and for $ 7.00 even. The difference being the quality of ingredients of course. The baguette was nicely toasted and stuffed with turkey, fresh mozzarella, tomato, lettuce, basil, and dejon mustard. The baguette and its toasted cruch stood out most as did the delicious mozzarella cheese. The sandwich wasn’t overly stuffed with veggies but was tasty nevertheless. After a few bites I was quickly reminded I’m not a fan of dejon mustard but without it, the sandwich would suffer. The option of a little yellow mustard is all I ask for. The turkey was thinly cut and piled high and on par with high-quality deli meats. Andersen Bakery is a healthy option when at Tanforan, but it does have its shortcomings. For a person such as myself, my $ 7.00 sandiwch isn’t enough to satisfy my hunger. Adding a salad for $ 5 makes the meal a little pricey and the half sandwich/half salad or soup isn’t a viable option. Nevertheless, Andersen does have good sandwiches with fair pricing and friendly sandwich artists. Ambiance/Décor: N/A Food: 3 Stars(out of 5) Service: 3 Stars(out of 5) Price: $ Overall: 3 Stars(out of 5) Pros: + Fresh artisan sandwiches + Freshly made bread + Soups & salads + Desert pastries + Friendly staff Cons: — Portion size — Lack of sandwich condiments

Out of all the Andersen Bakery’s I’ve ever visited, this is my least favorite location. Why? A few reasons: 1) For some reason, their Creamy French tastes weird– and not as good as the Serramonte or Hillsdale location. 2) Their chicken noodle soup portion is skimpy and super shady. I had to return it because there was no way in heck that I was paying $$$ for a small bowl with only 3 noodles, 1 piece of chicken, and a ton of broth. I guess I must’ve gotten the bottom of the barrel that day but they should’ve at least told me and gave me another option instead of trying to serve and swindle me. Always having bad experiences here but never have this drama at any other Andersen Bakery location…

I was there with my GF on Sunday October 7th around 1030am and there was a real rude cashier working there. I asked her if they made breakfast sandwiches she just pointed at the menu like a «B!» and said NO then I asked what kind of bread do they have, then again she pointed at another menu like a B! Hella rude how about good morning or a hello? didnt your mommy teach you any manors? didnt they teach you how to say hello at Andersen Bakery University? The only reason I didnt walk away from that B right then and there was because my movie was about to start. If you dont wanna be nice stay your a** at home and watch full house u B!

Its in the food section of the mall. So you have to park and walk all the way inside. Okay, i’ve looked on Unilocal and well, if it was MYBUSINESS i’d want to make sure they were all SPELLEDCORRECTLY. You look up Andersen Bakery and they don’t list them all on Unilocal… much less they spell it Anderson. For those of you who share my pet peeve. lol. Okay, i’m over it, so are you i’m sure. Well, i’ve been to each and every Andersen Bakery in the Bay Area… why? Because during school, i worked there and back then it was called Grain D’or. Great place and it was owned and run by some japanese company. They believed in a measuring system so that the pricing would be accordingly. It really does work. They know the cost of the ingredients. They know you measure out how much turkey on a sandwich… same with the chicken salad and so forth… many a business has gone out of business because they wanted to put more icing or keep baking a product that cost more money but less profit. I say. GOTOTHEIRWEBSITE! TOSEETHEIRMENU! I used to work here and I know their menu still like it was yesterday. EVERYTHING is AWESOME! WHYNOT5STARS!!! Because everything costs about 2.60 each or more. Some things are under 2.50…but bottom line, usually two items in the pastry case is over 5 dollars. I just want more for my money… BUT that doesn’t stop me from going here if i want a GOTO pastry or dessert. They even make very tasty sandwiches on bread freshly baked and sliced for you to eat. Don’t miss comparing this to anything else you’ve tried. Like i said, go to the menu, because EVERYTHING is good. Or go in, and just point and try. Their selection is very large.

I love this place! My favorites are the rich and creamy, ganache cake and the cranberry walnut bread which toasts really well. They have pretty decent coffee and sandwiches as well, like the turkey avocado. Yum! The only thing I don’t like is that if you only order one slice of cake, they just drop it into a paper bag where it can get smashed on the way home.

I personally prefer this location over Serramonte’s. Why? 1. They aren’t as stingy when it comes to preparing your sandwich. 2. You can watch them make your sandwich. 3. Their sandwiches always look bigger to that of Serramonte’s. 4. They NEVER forget to give me a pickle(which is extremely vital) When I was a vegetarian, I always chose the«Veggie Feast» because that was my only option – but, it was extremely delicious! Although I am not a vegetarian anymore, I still choose the Veggie Feast on Wheat Sourdough. I wouldn’t recommend their soups, simply because it tastes and closely resembles canned soup. You’re better off stopping by Pak N Save and picking up a can.

Got a chicken, swiss, avocado sandwich here after the Justin Bieber experience at the movie theater. I wanted my sandwich on 9 grain, then they told me they ran out, so I settled for whole grain. I also got my bag of barbecue chips and a large cup of hot darjeeling tea. I was noshing in the car and with one bite, I noticed my chicken goodness was actually turkey. I was a bit disappointed since I had my heart set on chicken. I tossed the extra pickle spear on Lovie’s lap(he loooves pickles), and called it a day.

My go-to lunch place: Turkey, Swiss, Avocado on Nine-Grain with Clam Chowder. It’s a bit pricey for a soup/sandwich combo, but the ingredients are fresh, portions are good(for a half sandwich) and it definitely fills me up. Creamy-French bread is also good at $ 2/loaf(sliced). Cakes are really moist and sweet here, but I’m always never in the mood for them at lunch time. I’d try more of the breads here, but afraid that I’d end up liking them and having an expensive bread addiction. The line also is pretty short here at lunch time, so I can get in and out real quick. Be prepared to trudge through the Jollibee line, which is always ridiculously long.

It is nice to just get something simple when at Tanforan. The other choices are fatty, salty and kind of expensive.

**In case its too long to read — know this — they think its OK to drop a knife on the ground and not wash it before cutting your sandwich.** My first irritating experiencehere was with the manager who wanted to charge extra for mozzarella, in place of swiss cheese. I said no way, cheese is cheese and complained to the district manager(looked them up online) who confirmed that no, there is no extra charge for mozzarella cheese. Second run-in — not only did I get attitude for confirming there was no charge, that I had in fact talked to the district manager and gave her the name of the woman. OK no charge. BUTTHEN, the girl making mysandwich dropped the knife on the floor, and wiped it with a cloth that she wipes off the counters with between sandwiches!!! When she then cut my sandwich in half with said knife, I said no way am I eating that, and she had to ask the manager(same one) if she could make me a new one because I was being picky. Are you f%&ing kidding me? So everyone who got a sandwich there that day after me, got some kitchen floor to go with it. I complained to the district manager, got absolutely no response this time, so I did what had to be done — told the San Mateo county health inspectors to at least train these people on food safety, and they were appalled. So yes, bi*ches — in case ya were wondering — that was me!!!

Sandwiches are tasty and so’s the soup. I’ve had the veggie sandwich twice and I like that it comes with avocado and sprouts. Their whole grain bread is fresh and delicious. Service is good and fast from my experience.
